How can a coach, a coach so competent, so intelligent, so thouroughly prepared allow a performance like this after a BY WEEK?

Maybe the coach is incompetent.

I hope the Redskins enjoyed their good defense last year, because it only took Shanny half the year to take that into the toilet

phase 1 complete

he is preparing for phase 2, promoting Bob Slowick

Oh geez... terrible options. At least the Eagles are a good team. I think a comparable option would be a dominatrix mermaid. It'll still hurt but others will look on and say, "eh, it could've happened to me too".

This is what you will hear;

"Vick was out of his mind this would have happened to any team that was playing them."

Then you can say, " Even if the team had 15 days to prepare for Vick?" "

As far as the notion being floated by some, aka "Well see, Shanny's clearly a moron too so that makes our moron acceptable," meh. It's about results and the process that gets you there.

How would you prepare for Vick?

If I'm an NFL head coach and had 15 days to prepare I'd hope I'd be able to come up with something better that what we saw tonight. Do you think the Eagles will put up 60 points before the end of the 3rd quarter in every game for the rest of the season?

How would you prepare for Vick?

I'd do what teams did when he was in Atlanta... blitz the ever living hell out of him. If you can bring pressure (and containment) he has traditionally either taken a bucket-load of sacks or thrown interceptions.

The Redskins played him soft today hoping to contain him with 4 down linemen. That didn't work.

Youi're something man....
Sorry, but to bash Shanahan as if you're feeling vindicated is a little bit over the top. Why are you pissed off at our former coach?
The raiders took it to us, and we've moved on.
Now we've had a chance to take it to the chiefs and I think that took some of the raiders embarrassment off of us...

It is what is is...

that gif is awesome because as you saw, if haynesworth stood up and contained his blocker, avant would not have been able to stop carter from blitzing. would been a big sack.

They are playing better this year but they're still the Raiders. Ack. I'd take it that way from the Eagles any day, maybe twice, rather than the Raiders.

They were talking about this extensively today on Sirius. They said the Skins tried to spy him with a S and it essentially worked out to 10vs11 as the S couldn't have any impact at all (though I don't recall seeing this). They said a scheme from the past that should be tried is to not actually try to pressure Vick at all. Just focus first on maintain perfect contain with 4-5 DL and then squeezing the pocket a bit if possible. I kinda wonder how effective that would be with the way he was throwing last night but I guess it would've been worth a try.

I don't know man, the Vick I'm seeing play right now is a lot more patient and accurate than the Vick playing for the Falcons. Seems to me like teams would be effed if they tried to bring lots of pressure because he would find a way to extend the play and actually make an on target throw.

Agree, the current Vick is considerably better than the pre-prison Vick. Vick used to be a below average pocket passer and he's been a very good one thus far this year. Add in his ability to scramble and he's just that much more dangerous. It will be interesting to see what the Giants try to do this weekend.

If anyone can ruin Vick's day with 4 pass rushers, it's the Giants. If he negates their defense, there's little hope for anyone else the rest of the way. This will be a huge game.

And I hate to say it but the only real way to beat Vick is to take your shots when you do get him rushing. He wont slide so if you keep him from the sidelines, you can pop him and try to get him out. That's the only viable answer so far this season.

And I hate to say it but...

I'm with you. And since I hate the Eagles, and Vick to a lesser extent, I hope it happens! And don't get me wrong, I don't want the guy to get badly injured. But I do want him to get punished for his scrambles and I think taking a physical pounding will limit his effectiveness. Vick and the Eagles are on a roll right now but I think the media is getting a little carried away with how invincible they are right now.

I think to expect that kind of performance week in and week out is overboard but I honestly don't know any coaching or player combination that could've beat them that night. Those deep balls by Vick were beautiful, the players were making plays (except later in the game when balls started getting dropped), and the D stepped up with the weak effort being on their run D. McNabb had pressure all night and while at least one INT wasn't his fault as the WR gifted it by tipping it, the D still pulled down 2 more.

Imagine if they'd kept trying to score. They could've gotten 75+ points easily. That's easy to awe at.

And it may continue. The bad things I noted to the Shanny lovers before the season are happening: the Skins have a poor O-line and even worse offensive skill players. Not a very good combination for a past-his-prime QB who was never a very good leader in Philly. Now mix in an underperforming defense and you have a recipe for some tough times in D.C.
