Insanity.
The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.

My own opinion: Rather than giving illegal aliens in-state tuition, the branches of our government should be working together to DEPORT THEM.

Well, in itself it seems silly to let them stay then charge them out of state tuition. Unless they truly want to enforce their immigration rules, they need to accept everyone. The only hope is that it'll be a thorn in peoples' sides and they'll push the enforcement of all their laws.

Well even if the report is correct it means nothing. You guys have not been paying attention.
Students in the UC system have been protesting huge tuition price hikes, recently. The fees have been jacked up so high that in the future only rich kids will be able to go to college in California.
This rules out immigrants --
Do some research, next time, BEFORE you post.

If these schools are supporting a large illegal population, it's not hard to see why they must raise tuition. The costs of maintaining a population that has no legal right to attend, coupled with subsidies from the UC system and financial aid, make the cost of the UC system much higher than it should be.
If you lower the cost of education, you can maintain tuition rates. Illegals do nothing but raise that cost for the taxpayers. The money is not being spent in classrooms, but on student services, administration, and academic support. Do you not think illegals are benefitting from these things?
Oh, and FYI, the tuition increases (in part) are what UC will use to keep programs like the Cal Grant alive. Who gets the Cal Grant? POOR students. Ever heard of the Blue and Gold Opportunity? That program goes to families earning under 70K and is a form of financial aid. Part of these tuition hikes would go to keep this program afloat. if anything, the tuition hikes will hurt the upper class, just like you liberals love. talk about doing research...

What a sham.
If you guys havent figured out that these liberal clowns really dont want equality yet, you are behind the times.
Its more important to start making inroads at the illegal population for votes than it is to establish reasonable, fair policies.

I've come across a few good student body president scandals in the Tri-State area when I was an undergraduate, but this one in California takes the cake! In the first place -- not any Tom Dick or Harry can enter the California university system. You have to have the grades. The competition is fierce. Many people with a "B" average do not get in. You need "As" to make it.
If you think illegal Mexicans who can barely speak English and never completed high school are sneaking across the border to enroll at UC you are on drugs. That does not happen.
There is a legitimate concern about the border and illegal immigration -- but the issue is being used to whip up Xenophobia and hatred -- to keep us divided while the banksters steal the rug out from under the nation.
They are the real threat -- not poor migrants.

Now you sound like a Nazi.
Since when are poor Hispanic immigrants rats?
Ask the question: Why do they come here in the first place?
Answer: Because our own US gov't supports corrupt and evil dictators back where they came from. We arm and train the death squads. This is the real problem. We have made life impossible for these people. So they flee -- and go north.
How about arming and training the illegals -- making then into an army of liberation -- then sending them back to overthrow the dictators?
That would solve the problem at the root.

The biggest reason Mexicans flee to the US is economic. The US via public tax support subsidize the huge corn business in the US so they can in turn sell the subsidized corn cheaper to Mexico than the Mexican farmer can grow corn. This has made their crop unsalable. The small farmer is forced to look for a way to support his family so many of them go to the US to illegally to seek work because they are desperate to feed their families. In turn the US corporations get cheap labor that has no voice as to their treatment. This is at least part of the reason why illegals flood the US job market. This price fixing is by design to have a supply of cheap unprotected labor for the US job market.

Yes. But they from many other nations as well --- not only from Mexico.
They come from Honduras, Guatemala, Salvador, Columbia.
Recall the coup in Honduras not long ago -- which happened because the duly elected president attempted moderate economic reforms -- land reform for example. For decades the rich have been throwing the campesinos off the land they have farmed for generations. The rich confiscate land to grow cash crops for export to the world market. We are talking hybrid seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides....
The cash crops are for export -- to benefit a few -- while the poor (a majority) in these countries go hungry.
The president took one step to the left to help the population --- and the oligarchy and their militarist allies reacted by staging a coup with the help of the US.
A wave of repression followed -- very predictably.
And stupid Gringos go on watching their foooball -- clueless about the suffering they are causing by supporting the tiny fascist elites in these countries.
This is the pattern over many years.

it could be worse guys, in the last year of government ( and i say that because he doesn't have a hope in hell of getting reelected next year) our liberal premier has decided that what the hell we are broke, so lets bring in students from around the world and educate them.
He has offered up 30 million dollars for bringing in students from around to try and produce more doctors, because in case you didnt know we have a bit of a shortage here, you see with government run healthcare the Docs salary is basically capped, so most of our doctors leave to make more money in the states, and if its not financial its because the government trys to send docs out to the middle of the bush, i mean hey they are signing the paycheck right so they get to decide where you practice medicine.
The best part is the money is offered up with no strings, no minimum stay requirement afterwards. I can just imagine how long they will be staying, or if they do who they will be voting for, go figure liberals cant get votes from people already here so they have to bring in some people to vote for them, thats something you dont see everyday.

Not really. The California Community Colleges System works closely with both the UC and CSU systems. It's not as hard as you might think. And illegal immagrants are usually very hard workers.

Violence breaks out as students at the flagship school of the University of California protest stiff tuition hikes.
Students at the University of California’s flagship Berkeley campus took to the streets on Friday night, vandalizing university buildings, burning trash cans and clashing with police in the latest expression of frustration over cuts to the educational budget in California.

In November, the University of California Board of Regents voted to raise tuition by 32 percent. At the same time, professors were asked to take pay cuts or be furloughed, classes were eliminated and class size increased. Protests erupted across the University of California system, particularly at UC Davis and UCLA.
The first tuition hikes took place in January, and since then tensions have been on the rise.
“Nobody planned what happened, but anger erupts when it has been building for so long. That’s what happens,” said Callie Maidhof, a student activist at UC Berkeley. “[The regents] are effectively closing off the campus, making it less accessible, and those already here are getting less out of their education.”
The University of California system, made up of 10 campuses with nearly 160,000 students, has long been the envy of other states. For many years, UC has provided a low-cost, world-class education, and scholars and politicians alike have noted the role of the UC schools in building California’s middle class. In recent years, however, the system has been battered by the state’s ongoing budget crisis.
California, which has the sixth largest economy in the world, has been hard hit by the economic crisis. Rising unemployment has caused a drop in the state’s income tax revenues and lawmakers have been reluctant to raise taxes, leaving the state government with little choice except to make severe budget cuts.
Schools across the state are planning mass protests on March 4 to protest the $17 billion in cuts to education budgets expected over the next two years.

Conservatives and teabaggers, judging from the way they vote, would like nothing more than to see America become another Mexico (where ~30 families control all of the nation's wealth.)
Of course, the knuckle draggers who voted for Bush (especially in 2004) voted for the policies that turned America into a failed state.

Rising and sustained income inequality is one important indicator, which has been rising since 1980. We are more in common with Mexico, Latin American countries and China then with Canada, Europe and Australia.

I like this definition, as it applies to the US:
"A state with a corporate dominated political system that resists favoring broad long range public benefits over the short term profits of the few."
Such a state is already on an irreversible fast track to ending up like Mexico, i.e., a country where ~30 families control all of the nation's wealth.
The lobbies of greed rule America. The White House, Congress, and even the federal judiciary are impotent in the face of corporate greed.
There is no government of the people, for the people, by the people - only the rule of private interests.
An impotent state = a failed state.
