Yeah, we should have just had lance ball as our only RB to start, and if he got injured we'd be stuck with no RBs in the backfield.

Only took 1 post for an idiot to come in... not surprised/

Think the point is moreso that Maroney has been so bad for us that it was a bad move to give up a pick for a guy that hasn't done any better than most of the members of this forum would have done playing RB.

I don't. I think the point was that Maroney was on the inactive list. Considering the thread title and all.

At least it'll be a high 4th rounder for the Pats.

There are no unemployed or practice squad running backs in the entire NFL. The only available body was Laurence Maroney, so we should just shut up and be glad the Pats didn't hold out for a first.

Dude, you're a little crazy. Seriously, lighten up a little.

If you are telling me it was worth the pick to have a guy come in and bust off 2.1 yards/carry for us for a few games, then I guess I don't know what to tell you. Do you really think someone couldn't come off a practice squad and do that?

lol. How intelligent of you to make such a observation.

I'm not saying getting Maroney was the greatest deal of all time, but considering we had injured backs that were going to be out for more than 1 week... it would have been an advantage to get someone who knew the offense. And to be honest, there's no real reason to hate on any running back this season as our oline blocking has been horrendous.

It's easy to sit here and say, go pick up a random RB and plug him in!

Sorry people, this isn't madden, every player doesn't have a random designated rating.

It's funny because, i'm sure a lot of people don't even know what pick we gave up... no one ever specifies it... just "a pick." That's how desperate people are.

considering our oline blocking, 2.1 yards is a pretty decent average, lmao

Perhaps you haven't noticed but none of our RB's have been able to run the ball behind this line. If we had decent blocking Maroney would be a fine backup RB, just as he was a fine starter (and leading rusher) for NE last year. We were forced to make a move because of injuries to Moreno and Buckhalter. It hasn't worked out. But if our blocking was better nobody would ever even bring this up.

Hilarious!

I call serious BS on this. If you are such a great judge of talent, why aren't you coaching Pee Wee or Pop Warner league football?

The self-appointed genioses on this board are amazing. The only thing most of the brainiacs on this board are would be descirbed as idiot savants where the talent is to dreool over soft and hard porn.

You do a great job of making a lot of our points. We weren't going to run for 200+ yards in those games. Why give up a 4th for ANYONE that was going to be a stop gap? But it especially applies to Maroney. Did you even watch those games? Did you watch him in New England? The guy is an east-west runner. That wasn't what we needed for those games. So why give up a draft pick for someone who will be mediocre for three games? A LOT of guys could have been mediocre for three games - then ridden the rest of the season out on the inactive list.

RB Laurence Maroney

Wow. Benched in favor of a player right off the PS. That's no good.

Edit: And of course, look at the McDanielites attack when someone points out how horrific that trade is looking. For the record, I posted this before I read the rest of the thread.

At some point, reality will overcome your partisan positions. You really might want to think if the point that Maroney has been a disaster is really the hill you want to die on.

To be fair there was no way to know for sure how long Moreno and Buckhalter would be out or if they could stay healthy.
