Since we have official threads for other non-football sports, I figured we need one for MMA.

Actually, I do have interest in expressing how lame I think MMA is. That's why I posted.

Thanks for proving that MMA fans can refrain from verbal roid rage at the slightest provocation. /sarcasm

That kick was probably the sweetest move I've seen anybody pull off in MMA. Like a sweet transition into an arm bar it was fun to watch. And the best part about it, it wasn't against a "chump", Ben Henderson is probably one of the top 3 or 4 fighters in the deepest weight class... and that kick won the fight for him. Surprised that Henderson was even able to recover after that, he was out for a second there.

I watched that the other night, Brandon's nose was just nasty. Bad enough that he covered his face probably so he didn't freak his family out.

Later in the night Gray Maynard was robbed of the title vs Frankie Edgar. Levigne could have reasonably stopped that fight in the first. Easily should have been a 10-8 round and possibly even a 10-7 round. Weak sauce calling it a draw.

Not sure who here actually follows MMA and not just UFC, but I finally watched my recording of Dynamite! from New Years. Interesting card all around, but the main thing would have to be Aoki's fight.

First round was K-1 (kickboxing) rules and the second round was MMA rules. Aoki ran away from any actual fighting in the first round (as well he should have) and was able to bring the one dimensional kickboxer to the second round. You can watch for yourself how that goes for him...

would the kickboxer still be the one dimensional one if round one was grappling and round two was kick boxing?

I'm not fully sure what you mean, but I'll blindly answer anyway Ha!

Aoki is rather one dimensional too, he only has one TKO stoppage with the rest being submissions. I didn't mean to suggest the kickboxer was the only one who was one dimensional. In the K-1 round Aoki was one dimensional, in the MMA round Nagashima was one dimensional. It kinda was the whole point, to see who was less one dimensional at the other's rules.

The results clearly show that Aoki is more one dimensional than Nagashima. However I'd argue that Aoki's takedowns, submissions, body control, takedown defense and submission defense all outweigh Nagashima's punching, kicking and kneeing in terms of all around fighting.

I showed this to everyone because this is as significant as if James Toney had managed to KO Randy Couture when they fought. It's a very surprising result.

There's really only 2 possible things left for Silva to do in his career.
1. Fight GSP. It would probably be catchweight at like 178 lbs.
2. Or travel to the other organizations and unify the UFC, Dream and Strikeforce belts. (Yes I realize Dana White is a douche and would never let this happen, but I'm going to keep dreaming on this one)

Yea #2 will never happen.
I actually think he should go to 205 and fight Shogun,Rashard Evans, "Bones" Jones, etc. He fought James Irvin at 205. Those would be great fights.
The move up would be easier on him than GSP going from 170 to 185

He also fought Griffin at 205, and embarrassed him.

I have to think that Silva will fight for the Light Heavyweight title sometime before he retires. Considering that he's already fought 2 fights at LHW, I almost think that could happen before he fights GSP.

GSP walks around at like 190-200 lbs. It shouldn't be hard for him to fight at middleweight. Saying he couldn't fight at 185 is a cop out. It be admitting that he relies entirely on his superior strength and size at welterweight (which I think he does) and doesn't actually have the skill to fight people on an equal playing field in those areas (which I don't think he has).

Action film star Steven Seagal accompanied UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva to the Octagon at UFC 126 on Saturday night before Silva knocked Vitor Belfort out with a highlight-reel front kick. Seagal was not just there for star power. According to Silva, he learned the kick from Seagal.

"Steven Seagal helped me perfect that kick. That was a kick we were working on before I stepped in," Silva said through a translator at the
post-fight press conference. "This was a kick that I trained a lot."

GSP does not have a huge Size Advantage over all of his foes. Thiago is larger, Koscheck is close. That said Silva is a bad match up do to length. No go reason to fight him on his terms. Better to Compromise. GSP does not owe Anderson anything.

Yah, I saw an MMA fight in Jackson a few weeks ago and its for real. One guy broke his hand and another guy boke his forearm or something. Most of the fights were over in the first round because some dudes just abuse the crap out of the other guy and they tap out immediately mainly due to chokeholds. The local kid who fought in the 2nd fight, little young dude with long hair, who fought the guy with the mohawk, that little dude is good, real good.

Arguably, Rashad doesn't even deserve to be contending after coming back from an injury after almost a whole year.

Tito, well if he CAN beat Rashad than that means we're all overlooking him, and he does deserve a shot, but I wouldn't argue with him having to fight someone like Machida to get that title shot.

Well that's tough. Clearly Tito doesn't deserve a title shot if he wins (don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for him to make a very unexpected comeback in MMA).

However, Rashad was lined up for a title pre-injury. I'd be complaining if he was thrown right back to face the winner of Rampage/Bones. But if he beats Tito and proves he's back from his injury, I can't see any reason why he isn't in line for a title shot...

I already have tickets for UFC 135. If both fighters withdraw with injuries in the next month, I'm going to be livid.

This isn't a basketball game where you show up the night before and get row 7 tickets. Any seat worth the $150/$250/$400 price sellout the day the tickets go on sale (which is like 2 months beforehand).

People who bought these tickets expected Jones/Evans, Nogueira/Franklin and Matyushenko/Hamill. Not this "card".

And nobody likes Rashad , he's a boring fighter who draws out decisions. Like Shields or Griffin
