Heading to Amarillo on Dec 4th to take on the 72 oz Steak Challenge at the Big Texan. 1 hour to finish a 72 oz sirloin, potato, dinner roll, salad, and 3 fried shrimp.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/Goobzilla/72ozSteaklarger.jpg

Got 1 other guy coming to try it also and 6 more coming to cheer us on. $29 each way Denver-Amarillo made it a no brainer. It's something I always thought would be fun to do so we're going. Fly in 4pm Sat, and leave Amarillo 9AM Sunday morning. Should be back in Welllington in time for the Bronco game.

I think thats the thing. Anyone can eat a 72 oz steak. Its the potato, roll and salad that makes it tough. Bread and starches...very filling. If you eat them first, you wont finish the steak. If you mix it up you have a good shot. I think on Man vs Food he went after the steak first.

Best of luck to you man.

I haven't been around a food competition that serious, but there used to be an old bar and grill in my hometown where you could attempt to eat a "monster burger" which was about 3 pounds or so, with a pound of fries and coleslaw in under an hour and you could get it for free -- if not, it was about 25 or 30 bones.

Before one of my friends left for the Army, a few of us went there and he and a few of my other buddies tried it. Big boys, 6'5 and ~ 250 + -- and they couldn't do it.

I guess if I've learned anything from Man vs. Food it would be that you would save your breads/starches last.

I wish you the best and hope you can do it.

I also hope you do not take a crap within 500 feet of another human. Please?

So how much does it cost if you don't finish?

That's the key.

There was one down in Colorado Springs in my day that was a 3lb steak that I could eat as an appetizer but it was like $35 or $40 if you failed, if I remember correctly. I never tried it just because if it were an off day and I didn't finish, I didn't want to waste my money.

I have no doubt that I would have absolutely no chance of finishing that.

This is something I've noticed changes with age. Time was that. at Del Frisco's, Sullivan's, Capital Grill, etc, I would be all over a 16 oz strip steak. These days 10--12 oz is my absolute limit.

There's meat left, but I don't want to eat it. I've become everything I ever hated.

If you fail give her the left overs.Make sure to save the sides for last so you can give her those too if you fail. :pimp: Actually you should probably arrive 2 hours early, you will probably need some time in the bathroom. :flush:

He failed that bucket of wings challenge. One thing I never understood when it comes to wing challenges (heat or otherwise), wouldn't it be way easier to meet a time deadline by just stripping the wings then eating them rather than eat each one as is?

Really though, I don't expect Adam to be doing that show for very much longer...I mean, how much can a body take?

i downloaded all 3 seasons of that show, one episode he goes to one of my old stomping ground places in niagara falls, mick and angelos, the food is awesome, big and relatively cheap.

back on topic, texas lonestar grills up here in ontario offer the same challenge, if i can find somebody to do it with me ill do it, that way its me vs a person, i dunno that i could beat the food alone.

Funny thing, Watched Modern Marvels on TV last night and the topic was over sized food in the country... Visited a place in LA that makes a 5' square pizza, and delivers it for $199.00. A gummy bear place that makes 5lb gummy bears AND the showed that place in Amarillo TX that does the steak challenge. That steak looked freekin great, takes 24 minutes to cook it Med rare. They do a big introduction ahead of time, set the clock and you are on your way. The guy last night did not stand a chance, Finished about 3/5th of the steak and did not touch the potato or salad. The mentioned last night that it was a shrimp cocktail, not fried shrimp.

Please give a full report when you get back.

Good luck.

I saw an interview with him and the question, obviously, came up. He said he sticks to a healthy diet and exercise regimen in the offseason and continues to keep as active and healthy as he can during taping.

I find this particularly hard to believe. Go back and watch the last episode of last season and then any episode this season and check out the difference. The guy has literally almost doubled in size.

Yeah but I don't totally believe that either, the show has been on 3 seasons and he's gained quite a bit of weight in that time... Not to Bob levels but expanding like the Meth problem in Missouri none the less.

Well, I didn't say he was good at exercising, just that he said he did it.

I don't deny that the crap he eats is just a killer.
