In disarray at 102-7 on Friday, Oakland recovered with a record eighth-wicket stand of 332, then dismissed mCd for 74 and had them 41-4 following on.

"We're very happy to be on the positive side of it now." Said Sir Thomas Cable

mCd continued: "At 102-7 we could have been staring down the barrel but Knowshon and mCd batting so well counted for at least four or five of the Oakland wickets because they kept them out in the field for four or five hours longer.

"Their openers will have been imagining facing the first few balls at lunch yesterday so still to be out there at lunch today must have had a very negative effect on them."

Said mCd "We had another collapse in this innings, which is obviously something we need to look at"

"It was a massive bonus. For Sir Thomas Cable to pick out Heyward-Bey in the deep like that was the icing on the cake, it's like winning the lottery," said a delighted Lord Albert Davis.

However, he is aware pointed out that the record stand masked another disappointing showing in the AFC Wests top order.

Said young master mCd "We had another collapse in this innings, which is obviously something we need to look at - because that's not going to be good enough in Tests going forward."

"Obviously you hope someone can pull their finger out and support Orton - but you don't expect them to pull their finger out to such an extent that they break all manner of world records and their own dad's highest Test score.

"It was almost a case of deja-vu from last week, that we'd failed again with the bat. But we're completely indebted to two guys bailing us out with a world record.

"Orton is one of those characters who's so lovable within the room, because you're just so glad he's on your team.

"He's so obstinate when he bats, and you know he's not going to get himself out. He refuses to throw his wicket away - it's very reassuring to have him.
