The next full moon peaks on Friday, October 22 at 6:37 PM PDT at 29º33’ Aries-Libra. Last month's full moon formed at the very beginning of Aries-Libra; this one peaks at the very end. This second full moon in Aries-Libra, along with Saturn in Libra and Venus retrograde, keeps the spotlight on relationships, and the need to integrate our inner masculine and feminine sides. Where do you need to be more courageous? Where do you need be more compassionate? What are your relationships and life mirroring to you? Opposites attract (and repel) each other; the stronger the charge, the greater the need to integrate that quality within ourselves. Full Moons always bring light to the shadow; the dark side of Libra focuses on appearance rather than substance, and peace at any price. Aries' shadow is thoughtless and combative. Where do you need to bring more balance into your life? More love? More truth and beauty?
As the first sign in the zodiac, Aries represents the energy of initiation and impulse, independence and innocence. Aries is similar to The Fool card in the Tarot, who is depicted stepping into the unknown. Libra is the archetype of fairness and equality, consideration and cooperation. Libra’s spiritual quest is the reconciliation of opposites, especially the masculine and feminine. Libra is ruled by Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty; Aries is ruled by Mars, the God of War. The evolutionary intent of this full moon urges us to “wage peace”, to be spiritual warriors, neither passive nor aggressive, but living what the Buddha called the Middle Way, the path of love, truth, and equanimity. Rather than a static midpoint, the Middle Way symbolizes the transcendence of duality, a profound shift in consciousness whereby our actions spring from a constant awareness of the inherent unity and interdependence of all things.
Venus is conjunct Vesta, the asteroid named for the Roman Goddess of the Hearth and keeper of the altar flame. In pre-Hellenic times, Vesta (then Hestia) was also the guardian of the inner fires of sacred sexuality. The Vestal Virgins were priestesses who initiated men and healed warriors returning from battle through sacred sex; the children born from these “virgin” unions were deemed divine. This is the second of three conjunctions between Venus and Vesta; because of Venus' retrograde, these two align exactly on August 5 (28º Virgo) and October 23, 2010 (9º Scorpio) and again on February 9, 2011 (6º Capricorn). The current conjunction of Venus and Vesta in Scorpio activates our collective memory of pre-patriarchal times, when women were honored for their power and knowledge of the sacred mysteries. (For more on Vesta and other important feminine archetypes, read Jean Shinoda Bolen's Goddesses in Every Woman; for masculine archetypes, read her book Gods in Everyman). Mercury at 4° Scorpio conjuncts Vesta, Venus, and the Sun; the mythic Messenger of the Gods requires us to question, investigate, and discover what has been distorted or kept secret. Mars, the ruler of Aries, is also in Scorpio; its close square to Chiron and Neptune at 26° Aquarius and its trines to Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces urge us to harness our passion and power for the greater good.
Ceres, a former asteroid upgraded in 2006 to dwarf planet status, is conjunct Pluto (now also classified as a dwarf planet), and the North Node in Capricorn. Ceres, the Roman Goddess of Agriculture, was known to the ancient Greeks as Demeter (da mater, meaning “Earth Mother”). As the Great Mother goddess, Demeter gave birth to Plutus, the Greek God of the Earth’s Wealth. More recent Roman versions of Plutus/Pluto’s abduction of Demeter/Ceres’ daughter Persephone illustrate the domination of matriarchal goddess cults and the Earth by patriarchal forces. Because of her retrograde motion (April 28 to August 8), Ceres remains in close conjunction with Pluto and the North Node for much of this year, beckoning us to transition from a hierarchical, patriarchal model to one that honors an equal, co-creative relationship between the masculine and feminine, and between humankind and the natural world.
The return of the sacred feminine and masculine is also indicated by the Mayan Calendar. From Carl Johan Calleman:
“About 5100 years ago, at the beginning of the Mayan Long Count (6th Wave or National Underworld) a polarity of consciousness was introduced that created a separation between the masculine and the feminine. The result has been a suppression of the intuitive and feminine aspects of the human mind and soul. The pain associated with this separation has created a long-standing conflict between men and women that has resulted in often unbalanced, twisted and distorted relationships between them. With the beginning (November 3, 2010) of the Seventh day of the 8th wave, (Galactic Underworld) a polarity shift in consciousness will support humanity in the co-creation of a new, balanced and more harmonious relationship between the masculine and feminine. For the two days November 6-7 women and men all over the world are invited to locally co-create processes and ceremonies designed to restore the sacred relationship between the feminine and masculine. The intention of these ceremonies is to co-create balance and mutual respect between the genders and the freedom for all individuals to embody any combined expression of the sacred feminine and masculine.” For more on this event, visit: http://on.fb.me/auno2b. November 3 marks the beginning of the 7th Day in the Mayan Calendar; for more on that, visit http://www.calleman.com/content/articles/Celebrate_Seventhday.htm.
This Full Moon reveals where the feminine must reclaim its power, and the masculine must regain its heart. Check out the resources below for supportive tools and groups. Astrologer Pat Liles sums this full moon up beautifully: "This is our work now - freeing ourselves from the programming of the past that is locked in our very bones. Almost everything in this chart points to re-establishing a new relationship (Libra) with our selves (Aries). From that we will be able to build a new foundation for relationship with mutually powerful others, and from that create a community/society from the ground up with a spiritual commitment to the whole. That's what the Age of Aquarius is... a grassroots movement to build a society based on truth, love, and equality."
The October 15 Beacons of Light channeling by Steve Rother entitled The Beautiful Puzzle - Beauty, an Anchor of Light, reminds us of the power and beauty within each of us; below are excerpts. For the full article, visit http://lightworker.com/beacons/2010/2010_10-BeautifulPuzzle.php
"Each and every one of you has brought a very special segment of Home to planet Earth to carry with you…you are part of a puzzle that cannot exist without you. You hold a unique beauty, a part of Home that can only be seen through your smile, your words and your vibration. Your first and most important responsibility is to find your own inner beauty, for that part of the puzzle is needed now… Your passion, your excitement, those things that light up your spirit will take you to your beauty… it will be very helpful to spend time each day renewing your idea of beauty, to appreciate and practice expressing this beauty… stop striving and own who you are. Own all of it…what you call imperfections are the pieces that fit in perfectly… The imperfections are part of the inclusions in your diamond that make your diamond a unique beauty from Home… This is not an easy planet to be on; it is not a vacation spot. Although it is the garden of the universe, it is a very difficult energy to be in as far as planetary energies go… before every wave that comes onto the shore, there is a backwash of energy that feels like it is going in the other direction. The water must come back out to build the wave to come back in. You are in that backwash right now. This is why some of you are panicking or feeling stuck, overreacting to your surrounding environment… this is an evolutionary process that all human beings are going through…. Play putting the most beauty out there that you can dare to see. We are not talking about physical beauty, but about passion and the things that make your spirit light up…. There is always someone who will see your beauty if you let it out… It is time, dear ones, to start to own your mastery. Own who you are. Not just in this lifetime, but in all the incarnations that you have had here. Draw on that strength. Draw on that energy from your ancestors, bring it in. It is all there for you right now. Above all, enjoy this ride." (Copyright 2000 - 2010 Lightworker. www.Lightworker.com)
