Highlights:

Agrees with others that QB's and WR's are partly to blame for hits with poor throws and running too quickly through zone coverage through the middle.

Cowboys stink

If you are going to be a really good QB you have to be a leader as well as a good passer.

Thinks that league wide the play of the quarterbacks is way down from previous years/decades but he does see it improving.

I was just telling my wife that at dinner last night.

Interesting he thinks the QB play sucks. Brady and Manning will both, in my opinion, be in discussion for best ever for many years to come. I'd like more insight on that, personally, as I just don't agree.

He is looking at the league as a whole. IMO you have Manning, Brady, and Brees. Outside of those three the rest of the league is almost interchangeable from week to week.

When he played there was Elway (greatest of all time), Marino, Favre, Kelly, Moon, Etc. The top half of the QB's in the league were really really good as opposed to now.

Aikman, Montana, Young, Simms, Esiason, Doug Williams...doh! Maybe there's a little "grass was greener" going on, but top to bottom, I would think most teams would trade their current QB for their late 80's to late 90's QB.

Maybe there's just more parity these days.

Have you read what Elway says about Cutler? It is probably best not to use his words against Cutler...

As in, the tide is higher across the board and those QBs wouldn't fare better than their current counterparts? It is difficult to make simple 1-to-1 comparisons (how would Aikman do, for instance, with the current offensive line and w/o the HoF supporting cast on offense?).

However, I suppose that's where the arguments about true greatness come into play--which of those QBs we listed could take over the current roster of their team and lead them to a better record and the playoffs/SB contention. I guess this is where I would say that the list of QBs able to do that then is longer than the list of QBs able to do that now. But then again, I already admitted there may be some "grass was greener" going on...

Great take. I think the best way to tell if someone was truly a great QB is if they made things happen when the talent level on their team just wasn't there. Elway did that perhaps more than anyone else. I would also give a nod to Moon who I recall being on some awful teams.

Guys like Brady and Montana and Aikman had talented supporting casts and excellent offensive schemes around them for most of their careers. For any QB to really have success they need that first and foremost. When Elway got the right schemes and talent around him... well thats history.

It was the Golden Age of QB's in league that had changed the wr and cb contact rules.

You mean where he said Cutler could be a great QB given time? Or where he said he didn't understand Cutler's verbal attack on BMarsh? Or where he laughed off the question on who's arm was stronger? Or perhaps you mean the generic answers he has given that are equivalent to the same answers he gave about Plummer, Orton, and Tebow?

None of the above. I am talking about him saying that he didn't like seeing Cutler given away because he sees him becoming one of the better QBs in the league. By the way, he said these things after the trade....

Yes, it is a sad day for this organization becuase Elway thinks Cutler will never be good. Just read his quotes, they really back you guys!

Uh, OH HELL NO. With this team now, Plummer would be make the team that much worse with his panicing, left handed throws and stupid ass decisions.
