SInce the college football board is dead...I thought I would post this here for the Mizzou fans (ZachKC)...Mizzou has had many opportunities for a "breakthough" and this video is a reminder of how they faired....

I still remember back to the Big 12 Championship game in 2008 when Missouri fans/players were whining/moaning about why nobody gave them a chance to win, and how they were going to surprise people and beat OU.

I don't have any qualms with people's outlook on this matchup. Missouri hasn't found a way to win this game...it hasn't gotten over the hump.

However this Missouri team matches up better than they have in the past. The defense is much improved...they have the speed to match up with Oklahoma's athletes. Jone's has not played quite as well away from Norman. Missouri's offense can score on anyone when it is in rhythm. Like I said...really looking forward to the game! Should be a good one.

The gameday crew talked about Missouri for a little bit today and I think there are a lot of fair points. Has this team won those huge games? No. Can they? Yes.

Fowler on the 2010 season to date ...

"If you like chaos this is your kind of year, like 2007, when LSU ended up backing into the title game with a couple losses because West Virginia and Missouri stumbled late. This Saturday will be important. We’ll see which team gets out of here unbeaten. We’ll see which team gets out of Auburn unbeaten. We’ll see if Oklahoma State can stay perfect, a tough test against Nebraska. Michigan State, an undefeated team, on the road at Northwestern. A couple teams could stumble. We know we’re going to lose two of them. I think as you look forward, it looks like Boise is the best bet to stay undefeated. Oregon’s been very convincing. They have USC next week, which is a place we could be. Tomorrow is a key day."

Fowler on Missouri's 2010 team ...

"What’s changed for Missouri? Is it a different story from two years ago, three years ago? Is the defense that improved? They believe they are. They believe they have the kind of speed that can do a much better job of containing Oklahoma in the last couple years. But you have to prove it on the field. I was pretty convinced by the game at A&M. I thought it was an impressive defensive performance. And they didn’t take the ball away but stymied a really good offense. it’s enough to lead me to believe they’re going to have success. And the other part of the equation is Oklahoma has not been a great team away from Norman the last couple years. I think that’s why they’re not a big favorite here. A lot of people don’t believe they’re a true No. 1 team, because what have they done to earn it? They haven’t in the mind of the pollsters. It’s the computers, who don’t factor in margin of victory and can’t see all their narrow wins. Missouri is the kind of team, no pun, you do have to show people, because the schedule was soft early.

"This is the opportunity to get the kind of landmark win for Gary Pinkel that Bret Bielema got last week at Wisconsin against Ohio State. He needed that win and didn’t have it. Gary has not that had that kind of win against a Texas or Oklahoma. So, the opportunity is there."

Fowler on "GameDay" coming to next week's Nebraska-Missouri game ...

"If you tell me Missouri’s going to beat Oklahoma and can guarantee me that, I’d say there’s a decent chance will be in Lincoln. They have to win at Oklahoma State obviously. That’s why it’s fun this time of year. We have our little hit list of games. Missouri at Nebraska is very much on the list. But we’ll see what happens."

Fowler on the direction of Missouri's program ...

I was here last year against Nebraska. Again, a chance to have that breakthrough signature win and couldn’t quite finish the deal. Ndamukong Suh took over and changed the course of the game and changed the course of Missouri’s season. And they didn’t do a great job reacting to it. I think a lot has been gained nationally by the start here ... and I don’t agree that Missouri enters this game with nothing to lose. ... How they play is very important. If they go out and get embarrassed on a big stage, the way they did a couple times against Oklahoma in the conference championship game, I think it sets you back. I think there is something at stake. I think they need to play well. Do they have to win to earn respect? I don’t know. But the chance is there do that. And that would get Missouri’s program to another level in the minds of a lot of people nationally if they can win."

Herbstreit on the start to Saturday's game ...
"Early success is key. If you go back the last couple weeks, South Carolina jumped all over Alabama and got Alabama in catch-up mode. Wisconsin opening kickoff touchdown and the next thing they're up 21-0. A big key when you’re a home underdog is the crowd, the energy. College football more so than the NFL is affected by momentum and taking advantage of the energy in your stadium. If Oklahoma takes the opening kick and goes 80 yards in 10 plays and scores a touchdown, it’s the deflator. Not only does it knock a hole in the crowd and the scene, it’s also a shot across Missouri’s bow. It’s like, 'Here we go again.' I’ve called three of these matchups in the last two or three years and every year we get excited, ‘Oh boy, this is going to be a great game.’ And more often than not, it’s over fast. That’s in the back of the mind of the fans, the media, everybody, us. It’s almost like we want to see Missouri play well, and playing well early gives them a belief."

Herbstreit on MU's defense ...
"I think their defense is still … I want to buy in. Everyone’s saying they’re second in the nation in scoring defense and just 10 points a game. But, I mean, Illinois, San Diego State, at Texas A&M, those are your three toughest games. Very different from Oklahoma. I think the most important by those results is they’re confident. So, they’re playing with a much more belief that they can come out and play with a team like Oklahoma."

Herbstreit on MU quarterback Blaine Gabbert...
"Like all the quarterbacks that have played for Gary, you have to have an understanding of the concept of stretching the field horizontally and then vertically, creating those 1-on-1 matchups. ... He’s got a big arm. He’s got good mobility. He can move around. Good pocket presence, good feel of when to distribute the football. I think he’s got everything you need. It’s good to see Wes Kemp got involved last week because you’re going to need more than one or two receivers to really be a true threat to Oklahoma. So if you’ve got three or four guys you can spread the ball around to, that’ll be key.

Herbstreit on MU's running game...
"Not having Derrick Washington, obviously, has affected the balance. The good Missouri offenses in the past had enough in the running game to off-set everybody focusing on the passing game. And Oklahoma’s going to match up. They’re going to take away all the underneath throws, the bubble screens, the jailbreak screens, the quick little easy throws. It would be great to be able to counter that with a running game. So, I don’t know if these backs are capabale of doing that."

Herbstreit on the threat of rain...
"I’m a big believer, as an offensive guy, if the field is slick, you can control your body weight and make a defensive back fall. The defensive backs are actually reacting to you as a receiver. So, if the quarterbacks can hold the ball and control it — both of these guys have big hands — then I think it can actually be an advantage for the offense."

Ahha that's pretty funny. I went to grade school one year in Ok.. The first day instead of handing out a school book we got the OU playbook, showing the x's of the sweep left or sweep right only offense. That was thirty odd years ago, but kidding about the playbook part. I remember the first week there in school if you stepped out of line, fell asleep during literature, distracted the class in any way your arse was getting paddled in front of the class. Hell the teacher hung it on the wall right behind him, and and holes drilled in paddle for less wind resistance. I couldnt wait to get back to So. Cal where they'd just send you to principals office for a lecture. My Dad lives there, and other relatives....So go Sooooners !

That's a fact..... when I went to junior high in Oklahoma, we made the paddle in the first week of shop class. It had room for the coach to hold it with both hands wrapped in athletic tape with holes drilled in the end. It hung in the coach’s office and if you got paddled you got to put your name on it. The guy with the most marks by his name at the end of the year got to keep it. Guys got paddled for just having their shirt tail out.

Yup, the girl that sat 2 rows across from me fell asleep while the teacher was reading during literature hour. I saw her & was thinking oh sh!t if he sees, and he did. He quietly put the book down grabbed the paddle when over to her desk, and smacked the paddle right on her desk next to her ear. She must of at least pissed her pants with the rest of us. He said fall asleep again and you will be paddled at my desk. I gave my Grandma every excuse why I couldnt go to school, but never worked.

You just described my coaches paddle. A baseball bat shaved flat on both sides, taped up with holes drilled in it. Our mascot was the Bulldoggers. The paddle was called the Dogger Flogger.

Man, OU choked this one away. Two turnovers in the red zone, a missed chip shot field goal, they need to get it together. But come next year, this might be a very special team with all the young guys that are playing.
Sucks about college football is this one loss by OU virtually ends the season for them in regards to winning the National Championship. I expect OU to still win the South and play in the Big 12 championship, but I thought this team could get to the big game in January. They just aren't there yet.

Missouri played like this was their National Championship and came with it, grats to them.

What, OU had so many opportunities to win and didn't execute. Gave up at least 9 points(3 field goals) with the two turnovers and missed field goal. Missouri had a lot more motivation and like I said, came with it and out-executed OU almost all gone.
OU's offense was shredding Missouri in the 1st half but like Denver's offense, couldn't come away with points in the red zone.
And like I said, this is a young OU squad with a bunch of underclassmen playing. Finch is a true freshman, Stills, Jefferson all true freshman with Landry a redshirt sophmore, young OL and secondary. I was hoping that they would be able to contend this year, but they just don't have the experience yet.
Grats to Missouri, hopefully OU can get a rematch in the Big 12 championship.

Finch is going to be a monster in the future, not a full time back but 15-20 touches and he'll do some damage. Just gotta have someone who can take the bruising so he doesn't have to all the time.
