Oct 19, 2010 - Denver Broncos wide receiver Matt Willis broke his foot on Sunday against the New York Jets and was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. The Broncos signed linebacker Diyral Briggs from the team's practice squad to fill the roster spot:

Briggs is a second-year player who spent last season with San Francisco, the club that originally signed him as college free agent. He played in four games with the 49ers last year and totaled four special-teams tackles. He also played in the club’s opener against Seattle this season.

Wide receiver Eron Riley was signed to the practice squad to fill that missing slot.

49ers fan favorite LB Diyral Briggs cleared waivers earlier today but decided to sign with the Denver Broncos as a member of their practice squad. As a member of the practice squad he could sign with any team that would want him, although that team would have to keep him on their active roster for three straight weeks.

I'm sure some folks are crushed by this, while others won't be feeling quite so bad. I'm not wildly concerned about it given the fact that Ahmad Brooks is healthy again and the team has a solid backup option in Travis LaBoy. I realize Briggs had a lot of natural talent, but given the fact that he wasn't going to see much playing time this season, I don't think this as bad as some people would make it out to be.

Interesting... when he wasn't drafted, the only teams outside of the 49'ers that called him were...

The Jets, Titans, and Steelers.

All extremely physical teams with great defenses.

...he has a ginormous Strahan gap.

Also, he says he was undersized (at 6'4)! He is kind of light for that weight at 230 though. Wonder if he has Jarvis Moss syndrome or can stack on some muscle.

You know?

He has gained weight since he first signed for the 49ers. Weighs in around 250 now!

In my circle, it's got its own adjective.

It's a gap of Strahanian proportions.

Dang, I didn't know Willis had broken his foot.
What a bummer!

I thought Willis showed potential but I'm looking for Decker to start getting into the offensive game plan some. I thought he was great coming out of college but some of our other WR's have really stepped up this year. I mean, how do you take DT, Royal, Gaff and Llyod off the field to put Decker in there. I would like to see him get a few passes though, just to help give him some confidence and raise his value.

I like our receivers corp.
I see Willis like another Royal. Not too big, but uses his body to the best of his abilities.
Decker showed promise. I'd like to see him show in some games...
