everyone this year is not that good. colts barely won, NO just lost. ravens and pitt are the only teams who appear to be well above average at this point, and i think most years, these teams woiuld be around 8-10th best. any ideas why its so even, in a bad way, this year?

Schefter posted that this is the first year we don't have a 4 & 0 team since 1970.

You can see the pundits openly struggling when they do their power rankings.

Hence my in waivering confidence for next week.

Yeah, nearly every team has a question mark. Normally there are 2-4 teams at this point where you can pencil them in the playoffs and say "watch out facing this team in January".
Pittsburgh is the closest team IMO to saying that about mainly due to their defense which is awesome.

Agree, good thread. Just today Chargers lose to Raiders, Saints lose to Cardinals, Texans get blown out at home by the Giants, Packers lose to the Redskins, Bengals lose at home to the Bucs. Ridiculous.

With 4 int's

I think what we are seeing is they should bench Cutler.

Apparently those ints WILL throw themselves!

I agree with you. Pittsburgh because of that defense. But as we saw they have their problems too. I've never struggled with picks so much. Which team will show up. I think it's great though, each week is so interesting and entertaining.

Thing I can't figure out is where was this running game of theirs up until this week. **** sit Cutler and just run.

ive said it before, hanie might give the bears the best chance to win right now. you saw last week against the giants how the sack total went down when collins went in, and hanie actually has potential in the NFL. cutler, my god imagine trying to coach him?

Ravens, Steelers, Colts, Jets are all really good teams... In the NFC I would say the Giants & Falcons are playing the best right now... Green Bay has been decimated with the Grant injury. Minny might be legit now with Moss and kek pics out of the way!

colts barely beat the chiefs, giants and falcons have HUGE question marks. ravens, steelers and jets are the potentially top 3 teams until someone distinguishes themselves.

Steelers will be scary good when their real QB comes back. They convincingly beat everyone they played in weeks 1-3 with a 4th string QB doing most of the work, and then barely lost to a very good Ravens team.

The Ravens are as good as they looked against us, I'm afraid. I live in Baltimore so I see a lot of Ravens games. This is probably the best Ravens team I've seen. Certainly the most complete team.

If Sanchez keeps playing like he has the first 4 games the Jets are real good. Not sure he ends up doing that but if so, then they are going to be good.

I still think Indianapolis is a great team. The kinks may be showing a bit more, but you knew sooner or later they weren't going to be able to keep beating Jax and Hou by like 3 points each. They will be in the playoffs unless Manning goes down.

I think those 4 are the teams to beat.

I don't have confidence in any team from the NFC.

Steelers would be my pick based on what we've seen so far.

Almost knocked off the Ravens with their 3rd/4th string QB in there, if Roethlisberger plays like he did last year they'll be hard to beat.

Yeah, I'm not going to get all bent over this loss like some people are. Everybody knew getting a win in Balt was going to be very hard to do. That's a good team and they were at home. And we have played some good teams the last 3 weeks. I still have hope the Broncos can have a 9 win season, which is about what most folks here thought we would get. Maybe not good enough to make the playoffs, we shall see. We've had some bad luck with injuries for sure and our OL is young. There are some encouraging signs also. Any NFL expert will tell you finding a good QB is the hardest thing to do and it seems we have that in place. Some really nice young WR's. When the OL gets a bit more healthy and experience, I think this offense will become more balanced and even better. It's the defense that we really need to focus on improving the rest of the year and into next.

The traditional powerhouse teams are still very good PIT, NE, BAL, and INDY. However, what is dreadfully missing this year is a consistent team. That is why INDY looks so different from week to week. They are usually one of the most effectively consistent teams week to week and do not kill themselves like a lot of talented but poorly disciplined teams like DAL, GB, HOU, NYG, and even NO this year.

The NYJ's look like they have turned the corner as a very good team, but need another consistent showing tonight at home versus a struggling MIN team. ATL is the team that is under the radar right now, and might be pushing to be a great team. CHI is the real weird team right now. They could be 2-3, but won games without any offense and the ridiculous Calvin Johnson non-TD catch play.

Sadly, the AFCW is pretty bad this year, again. Even with the Chiefs resurgent Defense and solid showing, everyone else is under .500 already. The NFCW is the absolute worst division in football though. And the whole NFC is wildly inconsistent. The only team that would make the playoffs from last year is ARI and they have been awful so far. I mean terrible, but played teams who played even worse to get some wins.

Personally, I think the players are having a real bad year. Guys are just not showing up to play all over the league. The sheer number of mistakes I see every game is way up from last year and there was not a lot of scheme and coaching movement like 2 years ago. I mean I see a ton of missed assignments and just crappy overall execution.

The fine tooled Offenses of INDY, NO, GB, NE, HOU, and DAL have all struggled mightily out of the gate. They have really underperformed and a lot of no name defenses have been playing lights out like KC, MIA, ATL, and TB. Really the level of play across the league has been inconsistent, sloppy, and poor IMHO.

I really wonder how much of this has to do with the uncertainty of the potential lockout. Think about it. For at least 90% of these guys, this is it. Their professional football lives and financial well-being will not survive a year off from the game. It HAS to be on their minds 24/7 and mentally wearing down anyone who's "on the bubble."

I thought about that, but it's just conjecture at this point so I did not go there.

What I can say, is that real talented teams and units are dreadfully underperforming. NO, GB, DAL, and BAL offenses have been way below their talent levels this far. The great defenses have been there, but not as dominant as in the past except for PIT who has been oustanding. GB, BAL, DAL, and the Jets have not been there this year.

As a nuetral fan, this is great entertainment on a weekly basis. However, as a fan of a team, the lack of execution by good units is really frustrating. There are some real talented teams that are sucking balls right now like SF, DAL, SD, CIN, MIN, and to a slightly lesser extent NO, INDY, and GB.

The football is just not very good right now and even the great players look like crap on more plays than usual. Brees was AWFUL yesterday. Aaron Rodgers is missing all kinds of plays. Peyton Manning was missing throws all day long. Romo was a hero/Goat all day long. The OL's around the league are playing like crap. DAL, GB, NO, HOU, SD, are all making the defenses look great they are playing. A lot of the top tier WR's are not showing up. The Top RB's are not getting it done. Some of the decent defenses are getting run over by weak ass teams.

I am telling you, the overall level of play this year is just sloppy and poor compared to last years first five games.

Since I am out east, I see the Ravens play a lot. They seem to be one of the best teams this year and were pretty unlucky last year, especially the first half of the season. Had they any luck, they likely would have been higher seeded in the playoffs and had a better chance to advance. They have a great OL, an always good defense, and now a set of skill players that can make a difference.
