brandon. ****ing. lloyd.

Broncos receiver Brandon Lloyd also had a huge game with five catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Lloyd now has 589 receiving yards through five games, putting him on pace for 1,885 yards this season. Jerry Rice's NFL record is 1,848 yards in 1995.

obviously orton is going nuts too. on pace for 5545 yards this season.

Shhh no positives, the usual suspects are in too much a frenzy about this loss to ruin anything with positives. Maybe next week if they win can you be at all positive.

you can question if hes a stud all you want, he was a great RB at NCSU and in giants preseason showed real flashes. at this point, for this teams running game, flashses of talent should be enough to get you carries. but stick with your genius plan of maroney dancing in to 3 defenders every other carry, hes earned it, he does know the system after all.

denver was one of the best running teams for a very long time...... we are a freaking joke as of now. their is not even a threat of it .... noshow_n, maroney (good job coach we gont a former pat) cbuck ..... if horrid.

we pass block great ..... maybe mcd should step off his high stubborn platform and bring back some zbs ..... we were better last year with a mix.

I guess we have to give the kid one more yr. I still like a lot of what he does but not sure he can evaluate talent. Also have no faith in our GM's.

The team is in very bad shape. Very old upfront on defense basically just using a bunch of older vets for a quick fix. It could be worst next yr on the dline.

We just don't have any good young defensive lineman. Also the middle linebackers outside of DJ stink. And DJ isn't getting any younger.

Seriously, it's a strange feeling after so many years of explosive starts. I think the defense will get better, the run game will get better and Orton will get smarter and smarter.

Of course, an injury to our QB would be devastating at this point.

The real problem we have around here is people don't know how to handle our team being in a rebuilding phase. Everyone expects instant results. Personally I like the direction we are heading. We are obviously lacking in some areas, it will get fixed... Maybe not as soon as we would all like, but I have faith it will get fixed.

People need to learn to cheer on your team but have realistic expectations. And quit being afraid to call it what it is. We are an average team, the faster you accept that, the faster you can enjoy this season!

I agree. With the amount of injuries we had early on it was bound to be a slow start. But, I also thought by this point our Oline would be showing signs in the running game.

Btw, we need some serious help at safety now!

Take a look around the league over the past several years. There is one thing that most teams have in common that causes them to finish strong... Talent. Scheme can make up for talent in the first quarter/half of the season but rarely does scheme work beyond that... that is when talent takes over. That is when physically dominating teams take over.

A lot of people like to bring up teams like the Colts and Saints when comparing our run game to pass game and the success it's had recently. The Saints and Colts have (or at least had) a recipe for success that includes two main ingredients that we don't currently possess. One, they were great in the redzone. They scored TDs not FGs or 4 down turnovers. The Saints did it on the ground last year scoring over 20 Rushing TDs. The Colts did it through the air and the ground scoring TDs in the redzone over 65% of the time. Until we come close to that conversion % we will struggle to win games. The second thing they had that fits hand in hand is the ability to play with a lead. Pass rush and opportunistic defense. The Colts would get a lead, pin their ears back and get after the QB. They are built around Peyton Manning and the passing offense and then Dwight Freeney, Mathis and a dominate pass rush. This year Freeney and Mathis aren't doing so hot, not surprisingly they are struggling. The Saints were similar but they relied on turnovers more than a dominating pass rush, though they are pretty damn good at getting after the QB as well. But their brand is getting a lead and forcing teams to throw the ball where they can use their pass rush to get early throws and generate some turnovers. Obviously, we aren't built to play with a lead in that same regard...not with Doom out of the lineup.

It only compounds the issue when we don't score on our drives which generally don't take a lot of time b/c they eat up field quick with a great passing game. The defense ends up being on the field a lot and we struggle to stop the run in the 2nd half with that recipe.

Bottom line, fix the running game so we can score TDs (Knowshon has a knack for finding the endzone at least) and we'll have another one of the important ingredients that made the Saints successful. Other than that, we're not much better than some of the other dominate passing teams over the past decade. Look no further than the recipe the Patriots are putting together right now. Tom Brady can throw for 300 yards and it won't mean shiat unless they have Ben Jarvis running the ball in... which it appears he can do pretty well. Get that fixed and we're going to start putting up good conversion %s that match the yardage numbers, only then will the W's come.

Beantown Bronco

Yesterday's game was literally the only game all season where time of possession was an issue. We've either won the TOP battle outright or been within a minute or so of the opponents in every previous game. Our short-medium passing game can be just as effective at bleeding the clock as rushing can.
