An approval poll after Q1 for a Broncos defensive coordinator may be moot, but I am hoping this season is the year the epic collapses stop.

Approve of him as a coordinator and hope its a long term solution. Disapprove of the tie dye shirts.

I approve the work he is doing till now.One of the main reasons we are in all the games is due to our defense.

I like what Wink has done. He doesn't bring pressure a lot of the time, but when he does it's pretty effective. He lets his players make plays, and we tackle very well for the most part. I'm pretty pleased, all in all.

Plus, I met him about two months ago at a bar downtown, and he's a ****in' cool-ass guy.

I approve of the rush defense, it seems to be improving, I disapprove of the pass rush and the lack of interesting blitzes, those add up to fence sitting.

Pass rush has more to do with talent. Hasn't been a lot of blitzes but I thought he had some good ones dialed in during the Tennessee game.

Basically this.

I'm on the fence, but getting there. It's his first D-Coordinator job... a little OJT might help in the long run.

Creatively designed and well timed blitzes are a big part of successful blitzs. I'd like to see more creativity, use Dawkins and DJ or even a corner.

I am also glad we don't blitz just to blitz...it's WAY too easy to get caught with your pants down like that.

Yeah I know it's give and take, but I like some of the ones he is throwing out there in moderation.

I like what Wink has done so far. There has been improvement every week, and the defense is noticeably more physical than I can remember a Broncos defense being. Part of that is personnel, but some of that comes from the top.

I thought the game plan he put together against the Colts was fantastic.

Add in the fact that he's lost his more dynamic player, and I've been impressed overall with how they've played so far.

We should have a poll on the approval rating of that tye-dye shirt he wears. That thing is hideous.

I loved how he used Dawkins against VY last week. That was good gambling, and good coaching. He is putting the team in a good position to win.

I know this sounds funny, but I a really looking towards the Chiefs game to see if he really has things "fixed." That final game last season was an embarrassment, and the Broncos need to show that they have learned how to defeat their divisional foes.

Excellent work against Tenn, but still not enough to put me flat in the "approval" column. Looking forward to more improvement.

I approve. It's his first gig as a coordinator and he's learning as he goes but he's done a good job of making half time adjustments and taking away other teams' best players. He'll make more mistakes but will continue to get better.

Robert Ayers is turning into a bonafide star on this team, which is good. Where are the picks, though? We need to work on grabbing the football from the opposing quarterback...

I can see this view. We need to be patient with him though. For his first time he's doing really well.

Fully agree. But coaching isn't a learning on the job business. He'll have to continue to compete and be a top notch DC week in and week out regardless of experience like he did last week, imo.

I voted for I'm on the fence, but that really meant for seeing him as a DC for the long run.

However, for the 1st qtr of the season, I definitely approve.

Rock Chalk

I voted accordingly. Our defensive effort through the first 4 games has seen steady improvement. New scheme, new DC, a few new players, all you can really ask for is steady improvement.

Definitely approve of the job he's doing so far. I think he is definitely a keeper. He gameplans for every team, and s far so good. The defense was awesome the last 3 games. He makes good halftime adjustments, and his gameplans have been money. We'll defiitely see more blitzes when we're playing against the right team.

Keep it up Wink

I thought the way he dealt with containing Wayne and Dallas Clark in the Colts game was simply awesome. Unfortunately Manning was just superb in that game.

With a little more balance on offense, and better red zone production we would have won that game. That's the first time I can remember having a chance against the Colts in the last decade (I'm not counting the forfeit game).

I thought the game plan against the Titans and the way Yong and Cj were contained was equally impressive.

Sprinkle in a little more talent, like the leading pass rusher in the NFL, and maybe a stud DL and ILB and this defense has the makings of a very strong unit in the coming years.

we've given up too many big plays. That's probably more on the dbacks though. Our safety's not really great helping over the top.

Really early for a poll of this nature, but I'd have to say we're off to a decent start, considering we're missing our biggest defensive weapon.

For Q1 I must give the guy a passing grade.
I don't see any other way to look at what he's done considering the circumstances.
Let's hope he can sustain his progress all the way throughout the season...

Hmm I think that has more to do with game planning than anything.

If you're thinking of the last 2 games:

1) Manning eats blitzes alive. You have to drop people into coverage and disguise coverage to make it more difficult for him to make the correct reads.

2) Why in god's name would you blitz Tennessee? Hunter and Ayers were tasked with holding the edge to contain Johnson and Young.

Approve. He's doing about as well as is reasonably possible given Doom's absence.
