Knowshon Moreno takes a step back

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 7, 2010 3:31 PM ET

It doesn't look like running back Knowshon "No Play" Moreno will return this week to try to save the pathetic Broncos rushing attack.

After being limited in practice on Wednesday, Moreno sat out Thursday's session. Coach Josh McDaniels said he was "hopeful" about Moreno earlier in the week, but now calls Moreno questionable.

"I think we're just trying to make sure we make a smart decision on when he's ready and when he's not," McDaniels said via MaxDenver.com. "Unfortunately, we can't have him out there every day until he's totally healthy."

Moreno is averaging only 2.8 yards-per-carry this year, but that easily leads the team. The Broncos are averaging 55 yards-per-week, which is worst in the NFL by 13 yards.

This is a disaster. He was averaging almost 2.8 yards per carry, compared to the team's overall average of 2.2 yards per carry. Assuming he could tote the ball 15 times in a game, this could cost the Broncos nine yards of offensive punch!

Didn't Dickerson run behind some bad lines? I was to young to pay attention to that, I only cared when he ended up at.

Let him sit and fully heal. Hammy injuries last seasons in some cases. They just linger. He wasn't going anywhere anyway with our line.

I for one am resigned to the fact that Orton will be our leading rusher this year through QB sneaks.

I thought this week was going to be rushing Moreno back out of desperation anyway. No way his hamstring was going to be close to 100% this quickly. And, he was just getting over the other hamstring injury. Other players are just going to have to pick it up - the OL is together for only the second time this season after a full week of practice. Buck and Maroney have had time to shake of the rust and get into game shape. It would be nice to see what Brown can do. Isn't this the team approach that McDaniels is preaching and trying to build here? One guy goes down, the other guys pick it up. It's all about mental toughness. No excuses. Just play the game.

I think he has a bright future ahead although his nagging injuries are a bit of a concern

of course ramming head first into a wall of defenders over and over again is not a recipe for durability

Yep, simple enough. I hope they didn't **** him up worse at practice.

He may very well be injury prone, but it's too early to tell. Lots of players have had shaky career starts. Can't give up on him.

That said, we also really got screwed by White going down. He really looked good in he preseason.

Agree on the bummer over losing White. He would be back just in the nick of time for this week where he would bring a large measure of relief in short yardage, goal line and for the whole offense.

Really sucks we lost Doom and White for the whole season. Would would likely be 3-1 if not 4-0 with White in there moving those critical short chains we've missed.

I know you're only kidding, but for the sake of accuracy...

The team average of 2.2 ypc includes Knowshon's numbers. Knowshon is averaging 2.8 ypc (39-111). The rest of the team averages a combined 1.8 ypc (62-109). Knowshon has more yards rushing on 39 carries than the rest of the team has on 62.

Josh said yesterday he really only goes by yards per attempt as a measuring stick for his running game. Whether thats 15 carries at 5.0 yards a clip or 25 carries at 3.0 yards a clip he'd pefer the former instead of the latter

2.8 is horrible based on how Josh would judge the season so far

OTH 2008 would be a success at 4.8 ypc

Orton rushing stats inflate those numbers with his team leading 2.9 yards per carry.

It's not the "can't run" thing that bothers me. It's the "can't do shiat" aspect of Maroney's game that is perplexing. Things that just about anyone of the street can do... like catch a football that hits you in the hands, and get in the way of the bad guy. Stuff like that....

Not comparing the two by any means but Barry had some horrific games, even in his MVP year.

12 car 10 yards in 90
12 car 16 yards in 94
15 car 33 yards in 97
10 car 20 yards in 97 (weeks 1 and 2 and then he went bonkers)

not to mention his worst day ever 13 carries -1 rushing yards vs GB in the playoffs.

Again, not comparing, just pointing out Sanders worst days for reference.
