I'm not puffing my chest about anything, particularly considering the fact than I'm not a Miami heat fan. I just laugh at all the idiots who are constantly bashing LeBron when he's probably the best all around player in the league. It's just so stupid I can't resist calling you idiots out. The guy puts up 35 tonight and dopes like you criticize him for not having enough assists. Pretty funny stuff. I guess I won't hold my breath waiting for mea culpas.

You're not a Heat fan? WTF am I jabbing at you for then? ROFL! Clearly I was grasping at straws to irritate you...but you don't even root for the Heat?! Classic luck for me :notthissh

Colby didnt do so well when he was a lone star player on the Lakers. He was Steve Nash's prison wife for several years there.

As for Colby's clutch play, the statistics clearly show that you are deluding yourself. The guy is the antithesis of clutch. He's like a brick machine that spits out turnovers in the waning moments.

Lakers fans only pay attention when they win anyway, so it doesnt surprise me that you wouldnt have seen Colby's futile years.

Lakers just need to play 4 quarters, they took the foot off the gas peddle tonight and as a result they lost. We will still win the series.

I disagree.

Nash was surrounded by all-stars and could barely get by Kobe on one occasion, and they were typically the Spurs biatch. Nash just isn't a champion.

But you know, to me its silly to brag about first round wins from 2006, 2007. I mean...

It's not whether you can win in Dallas, its the concept of being down 0-2 at HOME. It's very close to impossible to win a series after dropping the first two at home. That said, I think you will definitely win Game 2. The Lakers won't be eliminated until the WCF, IMO.

The Lakers look burned out to me. By the fourth quarter, both Bynum and Gasol were getting out-worked by skinny Tyson Chandler. Chandler put one of Gasol's turnarounds right back in his face. It was pretty funny. Chandler had Bynum missing layups.

Colby's ankle is definitely bothering him. He didnt score a single basket at the rim on Monday.

The Lakers have a losing record when Colby shoots 25+ times. It means that they're going away from their strength, which is their inside duo.

I'll reiterate for all of the bandwagon Laker fans (LA Propaganda Machine, I know you're not one of them)...

The Lakers will NOT win this series with Colby shooting the ball 25 times. That plays right to Dallas' strengths. The Lakers have to (even if they arent scoring efficiently) force themselves to establish Bynum. They need between 35-40 points from the duo of Bynum and Gasol. They wont beat Dallas in this series if they dont start getting that tonight.

Prediction for tonight:
Mavericks 92
Lakers 97

Miserable effort by this group tonight. No way did they deserve to win this game. Normally, after a loss like game 1, the Lakers come out with guns blazing the next game. I expected to see the same Lakers team that destroyed the Mavs in the last regular season meeting, but I got the complacent "what - me worry?" Lakers instead.

It was beyond "what, me worry?"...the Mavs took it from them. The Mavs were superior on offense and defense. They consistently stopped Laker runs with both offense and defense and then created their own runs...especially the late run that separated the teams for good.

What worries me about the Lakers is that they look tired fighting a pit-bull-tough Mavs team. By the fourth quarter, the Lakers looked exhausted and the Mavs just plowed them through.

I still think that LA wins by a nose in game 7, but they wont get out of the next round because this series is going to take everything out of them.

Its so quiet in the big Stapler nowadays (except for when you frontrunners are booing Pau Gasol) that I'm sure the Mavs wouldnt mind at all. Dirk seemed to be enjoying his beachside condo.

Well be back Tuesday, Jackson said. Referring to, the to be determined, Game 5 at Staples.

Nice to say when you're the coach and not playing. The Mavs have stepped up. If the Mavs win tonight the series is pretty much over.

Same with the Heat, if they can take game 3 in Boston the series will essentially be over.

Would like to see the Bulls lose tonight and see that series go 7.

Dirk is incredible in 99% of the games he plays in the playoffs. Even when the Nuggets beat the Mavs in the playoffs, Dirk was crazy good. I'm disappointed in the way these Lakers have underachieved and just downright played stupid in this post-season, but I'm still grateful for the great run we've enjoyed - three straight trips to the finals, 2-1.

I know that. I remember the 2006 postseason. It's like people only remember what happened in the finals but Dirk was incredible in every series leading up to the finals, especially against the Spurs that year.

The thing of it is, a lot of people act like Dirk has some flaw that makes him weak. The truth is, in this series, it seems like he's been in Gasols head. A lot of Dirk's shots have been closely guarded and it seems like it has led to a lot of frustration for Gasol. Gasol is getting worked at both ends of the floor. Dirk is just abusing him.

The one good thing, if Im a Laker fan though is that Bynum seems way more assertive than any time in a postseason. But thats also whats a little bewildering about this. If you would have said that Bynum would play like this in the series, the vast majority of the basketball watching public would have expected LA to be up 3-0. Thats why you have to give the Mavs big credit. LA had very few turnovers, they had Bynum going, and Kobe shot a good percentage while playing a controlled game and the Mavs still won.

People shouldnt be so quick to count out the Bulls. The Pacers and Hawks could actually be a tougher opponent for Chicago for Miami in that the Pacers and Hawks make you play 1-5 while Miami makes you play 2-4 (but predominantly 2-3). Thib's defense has thrived in the past when there is that focal point for the defense. The offset to that is that Wade and James are great players but do they offset the challenge of making Chicago defend 1-5 vs 2-3? Time will tell (assuming that matchup happens).

Sorry man, but this isnt about the Lakers underachieving, its about the Mavs being an epically clutch late fourth quarter machine starring Dirk Nowitzki. It reminds me alot of the Rockets and Hakeem Olajuwon.

Its fun getting to see the nation get to see what we Mavs fans have seen for so long with Dirk. Dirk is one of the greatest clutch players in the history of the game and he is finally getting to show that in a marquee series with the NBA's big market team.

* According to Elias Sports Bureau, in the ENTIRE history of the NBA, in elimination-games, Dirk Nowitzki has 13 30+ point performances. Only Wilt the Stilt, tied at 13, and Jerry West at 14, have achieved similar results!* Dirk career game 7's
Dirk game 7 vs Kings: 31 pts and 19 rebounds (shot higher than 50%)
Dirk game 7 vs Blazers: 31 pts and 11 rebounds (same)
Dirk game 7 vs Rockets: 14pts and 14 rebs (But his team won in blow out fashion) (5-14)
Dirk game 7 vs Spurs: 37 points and 15 rebounds with the clutch three point play. (above 50%)

Media people are actually having to study Dirk's career to understand whats going on in this series. They're finding out what we already knew, which was that even though his teams havent won the championship, that Dirk has been phenomenal.

This is the 11th straight season that Dirk has led the Mavs to 50+ win seasons and a trip to the playoffs. He hasn't played with a second (or third) star player since Nash left, yet people still blame Dirk. Bryant and the Lakers were mediocre under similar conditions when Bryant was the lone star player with a bunch of mediocre players.

Your posts are coming off like someone that doesn't know what he's watching out there and would rather bring up an irrelevant past. Mavs are playing some of the best team ball in the playoffs and have seemed to peak at the right time. Haven't posted much in this thread but these playoffs have been really fun to watch so far.

Rondo's elbow is messed up. I know he's showing guts to be out there but I can't imagine that elbow is going to be much use for the next few days or even weeks. I don't like to see players get injured and he's no different, even though there are times when he shows absolutely no class on the court.

And how about ticking timebomb over there in LA. You knew Artest would explode sooner or later. And that was a pretty stupid move. That game was over anyway and he just goes and gets himself suspended for a must win game for the Lakers. Mavs really playing well and what a storyline if the sweep the champs Hilarious!

But maybe the biggest shocker so far is the Spurs getting swept in the 1st round. OUCH !!!

And for all the talk about Kobe and LeBron and Durant being the best players in the league, I think you now have to include Rose as well. Yeah he won the MVP but this guy is taking over. He's a frickin nightmare for other teams.

I can address your observation about Rose. For much of the season, he was a top 10 player who was having the best season as its typically defined in MVP voting. But as the season has unfolded, Rose has elevated his game and has been even more impactful during the last month or two of the season. He has morphed into a top 5 player and probably is the best closer in the game now. You could make a case that Rose should be ranked anywhere from 1-5. But you're absolutely right. He's definitely elite and definitely top 5.

I love Rose, but he's not closing on Dirk's level right now. Maybe if the Bulls were playing the level of competition and having the same devastating results that Dirk is having, but Dirk is putting dagger after dagger in the heart of the two-time defending champion bent on a 3-peat. That's after he clobbered LaMarcus Aldridge and the Blazers.

Twice in the Lakers series, the Mavs have been down going into the closing minutes of the fourth quarter down and Dirk has just taken the game over and led the Mavs to critical wins. One in LA and the other in Dallas.

Rose will need to do similar things against Boston in the next round for a similar comparison.

Please. Rose is better than Dirk now. I like Dirk too but youre getting carried away.

Ill just remind you that Chicago beat Dallas both times this year. Not only that but Chicago is undefeated against Miami and Rose has had big games every time.

Rose is like a 6'3 version of LeBron except Rose isnt the Tin Man. Not only is Rose the best finisher at the end of games but he's also probably the best finisher around the basket.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFanGHM1HyQ

Rose does something around the basket thats jaw dropping at least once a game. The Bulls formula is to play defense, which means they dont get behind that often and then in the end, Rose saves the day. Its kind of like Elway when Reeves was with the Broncos. There arent many guys who can challenge Wade and James at the basket and can come away with an in your face. Actually, a lot of guys wouldnt even try.

Sorry man, but there's really no way that you can say that Rose is doing what Dirk is doing right now. Rose is playing well, but Dirk is out-clutching Colby Bryant by a significant margin.

Rose would have to do something similar to get the benefit of the doubt.

Dirk was Mr. 4th quarter in the NBA this year, and is Mr. 4th quarter in the playoffs.

While I agree with you that Dirk has been out clutching Bryant I don't see that as a statement to confirm he's doing more than Rose. At this point in Kobe's career it's no surprise when a player out plays him. That's not to say Dirk isn't playing to a very high level, but you can't say Rose isn't benefiting his team as much with his play.

Youre sample size is too small. Rose has actually slammed the door shut on a lot of good teams. The Bulls have had a stellar record against the top teams. Again, theyve beaten the Mavs in both games. Rose has easily done his share of heavy lifting in clutch time and it spans way more than 3 games.

I wasnt restricting the discussion to the playoffs. I was more talking about the year in total as a way of gauging where things are now. But consdidering that Rose has played through injury and had to go up against goonish tactics against Indiana, he's done really well. People shouldnt underestimate his most recent game. Again, he was injured and the series was kind of hanging in the balance at 1-1. Rose took it into his own hands and stepped on Atlanta's throat and didnt let up. The other part of that is the defense asserting itself. Crawford and Johnson combined for 2 points in the 2nd half.

I think the Lakers have had a problem in several games this season in closing it out. You are assuming something that isnt true.

I have watched Rose, and I really like what he's doing. The difference between the two players is that Dirk has put his team in position to sweep the defending NBA champions, and Rose is playing very well against teams that they are heavily favored against.

Dirk is doing something exceptional while Rose is just getting accomplished what they are expected to get accomplished.

Like I said previously, if Rose has Dirk-esque performances against Boston (or maybe even Miami) in the next round, then I'd say that the two are just about level. But up to this point, its hard to say that anyone else in the league is doing what Dirk is doing. Dirk is doing more with less.

Well that's where we differ. You keep calling the Lakers champs as if they have played like they do in seasons where they end of champs. I haven't seen that from them this year. I'm more surprised that it's the Mav's that are about to sweep them than I am that they are getting swept. So Dirk's performance has been great but it's made no more greater because its against these Lakers.

I dont know about the more with less stuff. The Bulls are a great defensive team but they rely on one man for offense probably more than any other team in the playoffs this year. It's like I told you, Rose is like a 6'3" version of LeBron. He has comparable athleticism to LeBron put to a 6'3" scale. But one of the glaring differences between Rose and LeBron is that when the Bulls need a basket and he knows the other team is going to hard foul him, he'll still stick his nose in there and attack the basket, whereas LeBron typically dribbles around at the top of the key and settles for a 3 pt shot that he often misses. Compared to Rose, LeBron is a tin man. LeBron is supremely talented but he also has a weakness that Rose doesnt have...Im talking about whats demonstrated on a normal basis. Im not saying its not within LeBron to drive but for whatever reason, he settles and misses a lot.

This is one of the reasons you could make a case for Rose being the best player in the league. He might be the best at finishing around the basket but he's definitely the most fearless, especially when his team needs it. Like I said before, not only might Rose be the only guy who could challenge James and Wade at the basket and come away with an "in your face" but a lot of guys wouldnt even try out of fear for being embarrassed or from being intimidated.

Bear in mind, Im not saying that Rose is the best player in the NBA but I am saying you could make a case for it. And I am saying he's definitely a top 5 player, wherever you want to rank him.

The Lakers have disgraced themselves.

I hate to see this happen to Phil. He deserved better than this.

Without a doubt, a legendary coach getting embarrassed by these jacka**es.

Damn Lakers have really screwed me. Not only as a fan, but I get weekly stories out of them for the paper I work for all the way through late June when they go to the NBA Finals. Those stories come in handy because there isn't much college or high school sports going on this time of the year. This time of the year I'd write the Lakers stories a little longer and run the photos a little bigger to take up room. Now the Lakers are done, and I have to find stuff until August, when football heats up.

Damn Lakers!

And now they're taking cheap shots. Embarrassing play is getting worse. Well that will give me something to write about, at least for this week.

I'm really sensitive to that last play where Barea got taken out... the exact same thing happened to me in high school (we were up substantially) and I fractured my hip on the way down. I'm still not right.

Yikes. Sounds damn painful

David Beckham still plays for the Galaxy...so there's always that for you.

Or cover the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Humor yourself and act like the people in LA still follow hockey when the Kings aren't playing ???

CBF1, 24Champ and LABF. ROFL! You ladies can cry on each others shoulders.Ha!

We aren't going to see those clowns for a while. Obviously they only show up puffing their chests out when LA is winning, and in true Laker fan fashion are nowhere to be found when they are getting absolutely embarrassed.

Write stories about the Mavs and how they ripped the hearts out of the Lakers and ate them right in front of the world.

That will be included in this week's newspaper, but then it's pretty much a wrap on Lakers stories until the fall.

You apparently have a lot of time on your hands, Karenin.

A lot of time to **** talk when you can't back it up.

Your time on the forum consists of bad one-liners and trying to insult people.

Newsflash: Nobody cares what a "noob" with ~ 700 posts has to say.

Keep rockin' out to Nickelcreek bro! You're a MySpace stud!

Jason, you have some pretty good ammo for stories right now.

Who coaches? Who gets traded? Who is a Laker target?

You know that fans are into that kind of drama and that kind of prognostication almost as much as they are into the games.

The readers of the newspaper don't really follow soccer or hockey, and seeing that the Kings and Ducks are out, there really won't be any NHL coverage.

I work for a weekly community paper, so there has to be a balance between big time sports and community stories. I can't go heavy on pro sports. So it has been rare to find an NHL story in the paper, and usually it has something to do with the Kings, who are not playing anymore.

Yes, there are stories, but it's not going to be enough to support weekly stories all the way through July. I'm not going to put a Lakers story in the paper just for the sake of putting one it. There is a weekly "Around the NBA" article that I have another writer do, and that will continue. But there won't be a ton of Lakers coverage until the fall. There will be stories here and there, but not every week. That's just how it works.

There will be plenty of laker drama this offseason. New Coaching search, Dwight Howard watch, Fisher retires (I hope). Pau Gasol trade rumors and so on....plenty of stuff to write about.

Lamar and Bynum basically deciding they wanted to leave was shocking.
It actually looked like they said F it I think I'll get tossed because we are getting killed.

I'm not a Lakers hater cause I liked the showtime years , but I hate Phil so when Phil came there I wouldn't root for them , but I shocked the Lakers laid down like they did.

That is exactly how I saw it. I didn't expect that from Lamar. Seems very out of character for him. I'm sure the Mavs were talking shi*, but you have to keep your cool. Bynum's foul was ridiculous, should be out for a few to start the season next year and receive a hefty fine.
