Can't believe that 2 months ago I really wanted my nuggets to get the mavs in the 1st round because I thought that was our best shot at winning a series. Glad they won and a big congrats to dirk, Kidd, Terry, and Cuban for keeping his trap shut these playoffs.

I kind of am too. I mean, I totally see why he rubs people the wrong way, but the guy seems to genuinely love his team and sports in general. We need more owners passionate about winning.

Again, he can be a complete jackass at times, but he seems like a fan. Maybe I just buy in to his persona, I don't know.

So who have you got here?

I'm going with Mavs in 6.

Yep.

It's because of the reasons you listed that the cHeat's "big three" will probably wear down from playing so many tough defensive minutes. The Mavs have an ability to spread the floor and stretch the cHeat defense that the Bulls lacked.

The Mavs have so many players who are scoring machines that you will run yourself ragged constantly switching on defense and playing 3 on 5.

You're going to need even more help than usual from the refs to have a chance to win this series.

It's fun to be right. :~ohyah!: ;)

Nice Posnanski article about Lebron wimping out.

http://joeposnanski.si.com/2011/06/13/feeling-the-heat/

Wade, though, couldn’t do it this time. This just wasn’t his night. He has grabbed these moments so many times through the years — heck IN THIS SERIES he has grabbed these moments so many times — but on this night he dribbled the ball off his foot, he missed all of his three-point jump shots, he just did not have it.

And so … it was to be LeBron. It had to be LeBron.

That’s why the sequence with four minutes left will stay with me for a long time. Miami needed a basket of course — being down eight with four minutes left is not life-threatening in the NBA, as we have seen time and again, but it is not ideal either. Anyway as much as the points, Miami needed a changing moment. LeBron James is breathtakingly good at making such moments as anyone.

Here’s what LeBron James did instead: he stood outside the arc about 25 feet away from the basket. He did not move. And the two times the ball was passed to him, he passed it away instantly … as if playing hot-potato.

There was absolutely no other explanation that made any sense: LeBron James did not want the basketball.

It's hard to believe how a guy, LeBron, can dig himself into a hole, be the only one that thinks he's not in a hole, and just keep digging. He really needs to STFU. He's already coming off as the biggest ass in sports, then he tells the common person they they have to go back to their personal problems?!?! Man, you mad. lol

I turned on Colin Cowherd, wanting to hear what spin job he'd put on this, because he's been making a boat load of excuses for LeBron. It's been kind of embarrassing how he's taken up for LeBron. Well even Cowherd jumped off the LeBron bandwagon and is bashing him.

Like it was pointed out in an article above, in crunch time, when the ball was passed to LeBron, he passed it as soon as he got it. He didn't want that ball, and he really didn't want to win. If he wanted to win he would have shot the ball every time he got the ball in the 4th.

Congratulations to the Mavs and also to their long-suffering fans. I could see very clearly how much it means to guys like Nowitzki and Kidd and while I've never been a fan of Cuban or his antics, he's always been a guy who would give his left testicle for a title, and now he has one.

I hope guys like Blackman, Harper, James Donaldson, Perkins, and Aguirre are happy and feel a part of the franchise.

Yup, that about sums it up. People keep saying he "choked" but to choke don't you have to at least try? Didn't appear he was trying all that hard for much of this series. Can't figure out why a guy who has so much ability and played so well against Philly, Boston and Chicago often looked disinterested against Dallas. Is the guy bipolar or something? Weird.

As if reading the Sports section didn't suck enough for Heat fans this morning, Miami Herald readers opened their paper to find a nearly full-page ad reading "Congratulations Miami!" next to photos of Heat championship T-shirts and hats from Macy's. ("Raise Another Banner" -- ughhhhh.)

Maybe Mark Cuban took this out as a extra special Monday morning foot-to-the-balls for Heat fans? He's devious. We won't put it past him.

Just for extra effect, the ad runs directly under a banner headline about how badly the Heat's point guard's sucked and an all-caps header proclaiming: DALLAS WINS BEST OF 7 SERIES 4-2.

Thanks, Miami Herald. You are the fourth-quarter LeBron James of local sports coverage:

So there is this big dumb oaf that plays for the Mavs. He happens to have an NBA title now. Brian Cardinal! Now you would think he would have a nickname related to his name, something about a bird or maybe a religious nickname. Well he doesn't! His nickname is the custodian. I guess it is because he cleans up the loose rebounds and balls. The custodian would actually make a good Wrestling name, he could throw sawdust in peoples eyes, then dip Hulk Hogans head into a mop bucket, his finishing move could be the PLUNGER. So to wrap this up, I have no idea why he is nicknamed the custodian, but it is funny to think about him moping up the floor with the Heat.

Robert Horry’s 17-year old daughter passes away from rare disease

Ashlyn Horry, the 17-year-old daughter of former NBA player Robert Horry, died today from “severe respiratory issues and a host of other complications requiring a six month stay in Texas Childrens Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” according to a report posted on Black Sports Online.

Ashlyn underwent numerous tests and multiple surgeries, according to the report, and nearly died on several other occasions. She was diagnosed with a chromosome abnormality so rare it did not even have name.

Robert Horry played for 15 seasons in the NBA on four different teams -- the Rockets, Suns, Lakers and Spurs. He was on seven championship teams -- two in Houston, three in L.A. and two in San Antonio

DALLAS -- Jason Terry strolled down the stairs like a heavyweight boxing champion, proudly sporting a robe.

As always seems to be the case with Terry, there’s a story behind it.

“I used to have a robe,” Terry said. “I used to come to meetings, get on the plane, on the road I'd come to our breakfast meetings with the robe on. Ask anybody -- the robe was infamous for a while.”

Then coach Rick Carlisle confiscated it.

Terry said Carlisle banned the robe because he didn’t think Jet was focused. Terry was thrilled that a new robe appeared in his locker this morning, complete with Finals logos on the lapels.

“The robe is back, baby!" Terry said.

Agree. Most people are taking the easy, closed minded, mob mentality approach with LeBron right now.

Bill Simmons had a lot of good points on LeBron in his recent column, these among them:

LeBron? We thought he was next. Then he fell apart against Boston. Then he chose to play with his buddy instead of beating him. Then he fell apart again. Forget about him losing; we're losing, too. Nobody has ever fully explained that part to LeBron. We rooted against him this season because it's fun to have villains in sports, and because it's fun to see an overly confident person gets his or her comeuppance. Not because we hated his guts. There will be a day when we root for LeBron James again. You wait.

I agree. Your hero will have his day, Tony. Never fear. He is too gifted physically not to.

He will also have a lot of non-Heat or front running fans rooting for him as soon as he becomes mental strong, drops the entitlement act, matures, learns the definition of 'humility' and learns to stand on his own two feet aside from Wade, his mommy or his 'inner circle'.

I really don't think he is that bad of a guy deep down. I just think he doesn't know how to think for himself. He is so mentally weak it is startling. Correct that and NBA fans will get behind him in droves.

Right now he is as likable as Cutler.

a) a good series

b) vintage performances from all the superstars

c) a flowing series not interrupted by 70 fouls a game

Rick Carlisle is a very good coach and a class act.

Without prompting, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle made a point to defend NBA Finals counterpart Erik Spoelstra, praising the Miami Heat coach for "the toughest job in basketball."

Carlisle made the comments at the end of his 30-minute session with the media Tuesday during the Mavericks' exit interviews.

"Listen, I would like to say one thing about Miami if I could," Carlisle said. "I thought Erik Spoelstra had the toughest job in basketball with that team because of the way the team came together and because of the unbelievably high expectations."

The Heat had those the moment they formed the Big Three of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

They added to the hype with a news conference that had a party-like feel, during which James vowed Miami would win multiple titles.

The pressure on Spoelstra intensified after the Heat stumbled to a 9-8 start, including a 106-95 loss to Dallas Nov. 27. That led to a players-only meeting and speculation about Spoelstra's job security.

Carlisle, president of the league's coaches' association, was widely credited for outcoaching Spoelstra during the Finals, in which James struggled, particularly in fourth quarters.

"My hat's off to Erik and the job he did," Carlisle said. "It was extremely difficult, extremely trying. We went through a lot of difficult times before we got to our moment. Their time will definitely come."

Dirk is one of only 11 NBA players with 10x All-Star appearances, NBA MVP and Finals MVP awards.

And by the end of his career he will easily be a Top 15 scorer and has a good chance at Top 10. If everything goes right he could hit 30,000 points.

Only 14 players have scored more points in the playoffs than Dirk and only 7 players have averaged more points in the playoffs than Dirk.

He is already a great player, the greatest european player ever, and a first-ballot hall of famer. By the end of his career he will be even greater. Everyone will know who you are talking about when you say "Dirk."

whatever....congrats and I get it that you guys love him

he got his ring now but some of the stuff being thrown around about him is ridiculous...top 20 ever?

for all the "choking" Lebron has done, Dirk did twice as much early in his career. Goes to show what one title can do for the ol' legacyOf course. Winning a championship is what seals your legacy.
Dirk has kept the Mavs a relevant franchise since he's played for them.
He's been the catalyst of that franchise.
The guy deserves all the accolades he's getting. End of story!

Do a little research, brosephine. Dirk "choked twice as much"? You're absolutely so full of crap that it's running down your leg. 11x50 and still rolling. 10+ straight all-NBA teams, NBA MVP, NBA Finals MVP....a trio of accomplishments reserved for only the elite of the elite...which Dirk has now entered. Go take a look at the company Dirk keeps there.

Dirk passed Dr. J in playoff scoring during the finals. Top 20 indeed. Dr. J couldn't lead a team to the championship on his own, either.

Dirk is still climbing as well, and intends to stick around for several years. He'll score 30,000 points and end up a top 10 scorer, top 30 rebounder, and is likely to have 50 win seasons from here until he retires. He'll also be a top 5 playoff scorer, holds the record (inched out Larry Bird) for the top FT% in playoff history as well as Finals history.

You're like 6 or 7 years in the past, dude. You need to catch up to modernity. The NBA doesn't only revolve around self-promoting gimps.

Facts are facts.

Dirk is on some lists with all-time NBA greats.

Let's say he averages 1,600 points a year for the next five years. That's ENTIRELY possible because he relies more on skill than pure athletic talent and he's extremely durable. That would be 21 points per game at 75 games a year and that's probably a conservative estimate.

That would put him at 30,792 points and only four guys have scored more points. A slightly less conservative estimate (23ppg x 76 games x 5 years) and he would pass WILT CHAMBERLAIN.

U mad?

Let's play the "what if" game and say Dirk plays until he's 41. A handful of great players have done that and Dirk truly LOVES the game and doesn't play for money...he doesn't even have an agent. Again, he's durable, and his style of play lends itself to longevity. He also always keeps in fantastic shape. And he has superior aryan genetics so that helps.

Let's say Dirk plays until he's 41.

Dirk's CAREER scoring average is 22.95 points. That includes his first two years when he wasn't quite the player he would become (averaged 8 and 17 his first two years).

Let's say Dirk holds up at 22.95 for the rest of his career. At nine more seasons, 76 games per, for 22.95...38,489 points. THE #1 SCORER IN NBA HISTORY.

It could happen.

Dirk doesn't even have any kids, man. Doesn't even have any side businesses. Not even married. No distractions. He's a huge basketball nerd.

This guy is going to play for a long time and break a **** ton of records.

Why is everybody calling me a hater?

I said right now he isn't a top 20 player....I think there is an argument both ways. No?

Jesus...on this board you can't have an opinion that isn't "love" or "hate"

why would i be mad? I'm a Nets fan...wait, nevermind

but seriously, name the 20....he might END up there because his game keeps him fresh and healthy...but isn't there an argument?
