LOL

I'm glad we traded him. Sometimes a trade is what the player needs. Where would we be without Cassius Vaughn, the player likely cut if Phonso stays?

...and the Lions lost.

Meanwhile, Cassius Vaughn made a play that helped us win the game today.

Smith sucks.

Right....... He probably would have cost the team on Special Teams and on Defense.

He himself said he was traded because of what impression he gave the coaches. Sometimes it was best for both parties.

seems like he just might be a guy that couldn't handle the pressure of where he was drafted....sucks for us...now the pressure is off him is just out there playing not thinking....blech

That is my opinion on it. I've always been a believer on Smith but he underachieved and was caught by two UDFAs on the depth chart in the pre-season. We moved him for a TE who has looked very solid in the #2 TE role, putting pressure on another low effort guy, Richard Quinn.

It is too bad it didn't work out for him with the Broncos since I believe he will be a good CB in the NFL.

I don't know, but we'd probably be better off without Nathan Jones.

This. I still wanted Phonz over Jones at the least. Although we do need Gronkowski to play FB now...

I'll drink to that!

If there is a bad play, he has a knack for being involved in it.

This. Jones sucked all camp and preseason, and he's already been toasted as much as Smith was all last year.

Smith didn't make our roster. What gets me is everyone called him a bust despite the fact that many of the most respected posters here said he was doing well.

Too early to call him a player or a bust but I am of the opinion that he is certainly not going to be a bust.

Not worried about him though. We got Perrish Cox and Im more than happy with him despite a rough outing against Indy, he has played pretty well for us.

Smith looks a lot more comfortable playing outside then in the nickle role. Maybe that where he should have been playing from the start.

Nah I rather Perish Cox at the nickel. He's bigger, faster, and can cover better than Smith. I'm just saying.... Dre Bly got alot of picks too with the Lions!

Maybe he is just madly inconsistent?

ALLEN PARK - Upon further review, here's an analytical breakdown of some of the plays and events that unfolded in the first half of the Detroit Lions'35-32 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at Ford Field.
--- In back-to-back plays, cornerback Alphonso Smith missed Michael Vick on a clean run to the quarterback and the easy sack would've resulted in a second-and-19 situation. On the next play, Vick's downfield throw to DeSean Jackson should've been intercepted by Jonathan Wade, but it was dropped.

I'll say this: Alphonso Smith has the talent and skill to start for a defense that gives up 29 pts a game. They can live through his mistakes because they know they aren't going anywhere. Here? He would be inactive.

Smith also beat Bly's ACC college career INT record for the most in history. Sucks we had to give up on him so soon, but it seems he had a very poor work ethic for us. Now he has 2 INT's in 4 games and is already starting for the Lions. Would be nice to see something like that come our way for once.

No pressure in Detroit.

I think half the people on this board could get in for a few plays with the Lions.

I'm not one of them.

One game with 6 tackles (3 solo) is hardly two straight games with an interception. He had a good game though, I'll give him that. He's also 27. Not 24 like Smith.
