I thought that since the theme following week 3 seems to be, "Let's start idiotic and short-sighted threads", I would jump in.

I mean, Orton threw for more yards in a single game than Cutler ever has, so this should put to bed any further debate on the subject.

He always looked confident while things were going well. The gift victory in game 1 likely bought some time before we see the frown cannon in full force.

Leaders pull their teams up to their level when the chips are down. Cutler's been wont to turn hermit and drag his team into depression when the chips are down.

He is tough, with a big arm and a knack for putting together drives when it counts.

You were wrong about him, as was McDaniels. Get used to it.

the Green Bay player doesnt drop that pick that 99% of secondary players catch and this is a different game

Cutler threw 2 picks that got called back, even if there was a PI on the second one he underthew it badly and into double coverage

Not all of us. Some people on here thought that Matt Cassel was comparable, and trying to trade for him was a good idea.

Others said that Kyle Orton was better. Poops has said repeatedly that he was the next Jeff George.

They were all wrong, obviously. How people allowed their homerism to skew their view on such an obviously talented, if somewhat immature QB is atrocious, and they should be called out on it.

It's the same absurd thinking that has us cheering moral victories while teams come into Denver and win by two touchdowns while McDaniels calls shotgun passes 55x a game.

To call him much beyond average is a reach, however. He is certainly not a top 10 QB in the NFL by any stretch. Unfortunately, with the way the Broncos are built now- totally lacking a run game- the QB has to be a star, and Kyle Orton is not, nor will he ever be up to the task of carrying an NFL team on his shoulders.

Chicago has A) a **** OL and B) played Dallas and GB, two of the stoutest defenses in the league. There was no rushing attack to ruin, it sucked last year too. This has nothing to do with Cutler and everything to do with crap drafting and recruiting by Lovie Smith and the GM.

Denver's rushing attack, perennially the best int he league under the previous regime, is now suddenly embarrassingly bad, and was bad last year just a year removed from what was once a promising young OL under development.

McDaniels has clearly killed the run game using terrible schemes. He came from New England, which had a terrible rushing attack under his coordination as well.

There is no argument here.

The final year Cutler was here, he had the best pass blocking oline in the league. Not sure if you watched any games that year, but he had all day in behind that line.

Hey I referenced the FIRST two seasons Jay was in Denver, the talent was borderline **** around him, outside of Marshall catching 100 catches a year. How many years did Jay play here?

Started 4 games as a rookie.... 16 as a Sophomore (this is when Pears and Martinez started, but you already knew that...) and then in his third season, we had some talent around him which was the great pass blocking OL you were referring to.

1st two years... crappy OL, marginal skill position players... final season, Brandon Marshall, Royal, Clady, a healthy Harris, Kuper, a pretty solid offense on it's way to getting better.

1st two years, comparable to the garbage the Bears have right now.

I don't know what part of my previous statement you couldn't understand. Maybe you can't read.

Are they crawling out to brag, or just laugh at the losers who were wrong about him but insist on ripping him anyways? Dude's 3-0, leading the league in QB rating and people just want to say "ah, he's soooooo lucky!" ha ha.

Ponder that, get back to me.

Kudos to the Bears... they played well as a whole. How much can you credit can you really give Cutler for the W though? Even Cutler says "Uh, uh.. well I didnt play very well."

Orton was 3-0 last year too. Many (not all) Cutler lovers ripped him then too... and any chance they could get. Many still rip Orton while he's putting up some of the best numbers in the league.

The same scrutiny that Orton received on his ways of winning games in Chicago are the same things Cutler is being crowned on tonight.

Cutler did he best job to try and throw the game away.

True.

But to sit there and say the Broncos wont win Championships because of a poor running game, then laud Cutler for starting 3-0 while ignoring the total lack of a ground game from the Bears strikes me as hypocritical.

Which at the end of the day is just a way to smear McDaniels. But I wouldnt want to totally derail the love of a Bears player on a Broncos message board.

:Broncos:

When did I say the Broncos will never win another championship because we have a poor running game this year? Conversely, when did I say I think the Bears will win the title this year?

I'm happy Jay's doing well, but I highly doubt Chicago will advance to the Super Bowl until they get some halfway decent talent around him. I also highly doubt Denver will advance to the Super Bowl in 2010, as we also need about 4-5 more real good pieces to make it work.

But Jay has a once a decade skill set , and if he learns a few things about risk vs reward he could be a Hof quarterback ...

Was not saying you were the one stating the Broncos championship odds are low because of a poor run game. Its been said in this thread, that is what I am alluding to.

The general tenor of any thread brought up about former Broncos lately screams more about the OP's feelings on the Broncos HC rather than the player named in that thread. Its getting old.

Yay. Bears won. Cutler played like **** on national TV and was gifted a win. Good for them. It has nothing to do with Denver, so I dont quite see the attachment to former players. Obviously they 1. did not fit here or 2. were not productive. I dont recall threads lambasting Shanahan for letting go of Desmond Clark or trading CP or signing Gardner then letting him go a season later. Is this what Broncos fandom is now? A blank cheque for constantly spotlighting former Broncos simply because of a disagreement with the methods of the current HC?

So you're pointing out some bad players we had...

what a genius retaliation.

So, some how, McDaniels shipped away the boat load of talent the Broncos had, but we have 1 retard here (bpc) saying that Jay Cutler had no talent on his team.

The final year Cutler was here, he had the best pass blocking oline in the league. Not sure if you watched any games that year, but he had all day in behind that line.

He did. Look around the league.

Cutler just beat down Romo and Rodgers to go to 3-0 behind perhaps the worst OL in the league and Devin Hester as his best WR. I just had to listen to Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden tell the viewing audience how tough and resilient Jay Cutler is, and how amazing his arm and pocket awareness are.... for the god damned Bears. Meanwhile Kyle Orton runs like he has blocks of granite in his shoes, and goes down like a Thai hooker whenever a lineman gets within 5 yards of him.

Brandon Marshall is a top 3 receiver in the NFL, and the best combination of size, speed, and run after the catch in one player in the league.

Peyton Hillis just crushed the Ravens, and would be the perfect bruiser combo FB for the Broncos right now, instead he is in Cleveland while Brady Quinn paints his toenails on the sideline. Oh, we gave up picks in that deal too. Sweet.

Through 3 games Tony Sheffler has 14 catches and a TD for the Lions. The only thing Richard Quinn has caught for the Broncos is syphillis.

Annnnnd the Broncos have no run game, and a pass happy offense which struggles to score, let alone do crazy things like control the clock or wear down defenses with a varied attack.

Here is the thing that bothers those of us who have been skeptical about McDaniels and his approach the whole time- why did he tear eveything down, just to rebuild it in a crappier way? This team scores less points, gains less yards, has a lower average time of possession, and is generally less talented across the board offensively.

Why break it down if you aren't even able to replicate what was already there?

Josh McDaniels should have left the god damned offense alone, and focused all of his energy and resources on the defense. That offense, with his tweaking, plus lots of draft picks and FAs on defense, instead of jerking around with Tebow, Quinn, Moreno, etc etc etc, would be a 10+ win team now, and a threat to do some damage.

A player or two as offensive upgrades? Fine. He clearly did not know what in the **** he was doing when he broke it up. Matt Cassel my ass.

God damnit.

I said nearly.

But then again points dont matter to some, only offensive rankings do. I get you are upset, but I dont think any of us really knew how talent deficient the team was before McD. What we have now is alot of youth. Mistakes, poor execution and inconsistent play is going to happen. That hardly means the Broncos are talent deficient as compared to the 07 or 08 teams. McDaniels wants certain players. He is bringing them in and that takes time.

IMO...this team will be fine next year. We haven't really lost that much. We're 9-10 so far, which isn't great, but its not horrible, either. IMO, we have alot of good young players who should end up being good starters in time. Prolly not this year, but in 2011 we should be a solid club.

Moral victories this season and last are acceptable to me. This will not be the case next year. Third year going in, with his system fully in place with the kids he wants, he better show improvement.

And the Broncos were not exactly at full strength, either and until late in the 4th qtr it was a 7 point game with the Broncos having every chance to tie it up. They didnt. That comes with youth at keyspots in big moments.

I don't care what anybody says. For Jay Cutler to have the #1 passer rating in the league right now over Manning, Brees, Brady, et al, and averaging more per completion Say what you want, but that's pretty impressive.

All that said, Kyle Orton's numbers aren't too shabby himself.

:Broncos:

So you are good with the vaunted 5 year plan. Because they won't have multiple first rounders to blow starting next year.
