If Denver gets a high draft pick in April it wont be because Orton threw for 5000 yards.

He threw for 470+ and still lost by two touchdowns. Isn't this why Cutler was traded?

No, that won't be the reason, but the two could go hand in hand. If they can't mix in a running game and need Orton to throw for that kind of yardage, this team is going to be losing a lot of games.

I hoe not because i am putting some type of faith that we can actually run the ball. Pathetic. If Orton throws 5,000 yards, it is because we have no running or we are behind a ton. It will be because the Broncos averaged 68 yards per game on the ground because Kyle Orton was asked to throw 50 times a game for 5000 yards.

Doubtful. McDs offense in New England had lots of passing yards too, even when they are winning games soundly. It's just the way the offense is designed. Now that we have the WRs all on one page with Orton, passing yardage is going to way up as the offense is working correctly now (passing that is). We can still grind out a mediocre run game this season, Im confident of that but it is long past our focus and there is no reason we CANT be winning this year AND have heavy passing offensive season.

That being said Clockwork, I hope we dont pass for 5000 yards. Id rather us run the ball more but if it is working AND we do end up winning with it, I wont complain much.

Looking at that and knowing Elway had 1 400 yard passing game and 1 4000 yard season in his whole career tells me that this pass happy league we are in now Elway would have finished with 70K yards and Marino close to 100K.

314 yesterday. 1,733 yards through five games. On pace for 5,546 yards this season.

Dan Marino's 1984 record is 5,084.

Orton needs to average 305 yards the rest of the way to break it. He needs to average 297 yards a game to attain 5,000.

Pro Football Reference says Orton is one of a handful of NFL quarterbacks who could break Norm Van Brocklin's single game passing yard record if these conditions apply:

- Ineffective running game
- Ineffective red zone play, by either settling for field goals, failing to convert on downs, or turning the ball over
- A defense that gives up big plays, and an opposing offense that can move down the field quickly
- An opposing defense that isn't very good, and is also prone to big plays (lots of completions and long drives drain the clock)
- Overtime.

Strafen is who we always knew who he was and that is a total ass. You can change your name but you cant see when someone has clearly improved his game and the view plus stats dont lie. This guy has turned a major corner. The running game is totally f ed up and he is poised enough to lead this team on offense.

The defense probably just got significantly worse with all the injuries... we're going to have to score a lot of points to stay in games.

If Orton stays healthy and the running game doesn't improve significantly, he'll go close to 5,000. Probably won't quite do it, but will likely top 4,500.

Orton had an up and down game yesterday, mostly because the Jets got a good rush right in his face, causing a lot of usual completions to open receivers to fall incomplete. But he's still not afraid to challenge the defense downfield, even against Lord Revis, which gave us some of our biggest plays of the day. It also helps that we kind of ran the ball OK.

Against one of the best defenses in the NFL, I saw nothing that would lead me to believe that Orton is going to be "exposed" any time soon. Dude is playing awesome in a system that benefits him greatly.

Now, if he'll get to 5,000 yards, that's another question. But he'll undoubtedly get to 4,000.
