The term actually originated over on the DPO board (a lot of our posters came over from that board). It was originally coined as an insult by a Raider fan who called himself "Black Hole"... but the Bronco fans adopted the name. There's a mega-Neck Pony thread  with thousands of posts on that board... and the tradition continues here... :D

Hope that helps!

The Neck Pony Nation thread is something of an online pep rally for Broncos fans.   ;D  Sometimes, people just want to keep it "up" for good Karma...  Other times, people get into discussions about motorsikles and other stuff.

Midnight Blue
03-16-2002, 11:54 PM
On the first page of this thread is an explanation of how it originated (the DPO thread is the original and we've carried the tradition to this board).

The purpose of the thread is as a "cyber pep rally" for Bronco fans... here, "spam" is tolerated and even encouraged.

We celebrate "milestone" posts (called "donuts"... 100th, 200th, etc.) on this thread. In short, it's the fun thread and superstition dictates that it must always have enough posts to keep it on Page One.

Hope that helps! :D

Thats what I call myself when im talking to myself "self, this NPN thread lacks something, all there ever is is "up" or something like that" so ive decided that once a day, someone, anyone, instead of simply posting a "up" or something along those lines, said individual should post a joke, quote, limerick, humorous story etc. that way, when people see this thread up on top, they will not automatically assume that its another "up" if you all give me a few moments, i will come up with something...feel free to jump right in though.

"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.  Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.  We are met on a great battlefield of that war.  We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.  It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.  But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate - we cannot consecrate - we cannot hallow - this ground.  The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.  The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.  It is for us, the living, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.  It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation, under G-d, shall have a new birth of freedom; and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."  (November 19, 1863)

"I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie. Not a single time. Never."  (January 26, 1998)

"Depends on what your definition of is is."  (August 17, 1998)

Tricky Dick had some good ones too:

"You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore, because gentlemen, this is my last press conference."  (November 7, 1962)

"When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal."  (May 19, 1977)

Here is a good one from Jefferson:

"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion."  (September 28, 1820)

The other day I was in the local auto part store.
A lady comes in and asks
for a seven ten cap. We all look at each other
and ask, "What's a seven ten
cap?"
She says, "You know, it's right on the engine.
Mine got lost somehow and I
need a new one."
"What kind of a car is it?" they ask. Now I'm
thinking maybe an old Datsun
Seven Ten, but no, she says that it's a Buick.
"Okay, Lady, how big is it?"
She makes a circle with her hands about 3 1/2
inches in diameter.
"What does it do?" we ask.
She says, "I don't know, but it's always been
there."
One of us gives her a note pad and asks her if
she can draw a picture of
it. So she makes a circle about 3 1/2 inches in
diameter and in the center
she writes 710. The guys behind the counter are
looking at it upside down
as she writes it...and they just fall down behind
the counter laughing so
hard in hysterics.
One guy says, "I think you want an oil cap."

Every 14th of February, men get the chance to display fondness for their wife or girlfriend by showering her with gifts, flowers, dinner, shows and any other baubles that women find romantic. Every Valentines Day, you rack
your brains for that one special, unique gift that will show your wife or girlfriend that you really love them more than anything. Now ladies, I'll let you in on a little secret.... guys really don't enjoy this that much. Sure seeing that smile on your face when we get it right is priceless, but that smile is the result of weeks of blood, sweat and consideration.

Another secret.... guys feel left out. That's right... left out. There's no special holiday for the ladies to show their appreciation for the men in their life. Men as a whole are either too proud or just too embarrassed to admit it. Which is why a new holiday has been created.

March 29th is now officially "Steak and Blowjob Day". Simple, effective and self-explanatory.... this holiday has been created so your ladies finally have a day to show your man just how much you love him. No cards, no
flowers, no special nights on the town - the name of the holiday explains it all.... just a steak and a BJ. That's it.

Finally, this twin pair of Valentines Day and Steak and Blowjob Day will usher in a new age of love as men everywhere will try THAT much harder in February to ensure a more memorable March! It's like a perpetual love
machine. The word is already beginning to spread, but as with any new idea, it needs a little push to start the ball rolling. So spread the word, and help bring love and peace to this crazy world.

Do Your Part!

anyone need another reason to have a dog rather than a cat? here you go- how to render medication to your pet...

CAT:
1) Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if
holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of
cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
3) Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.
4) Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.
5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.
6) Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and vigorously rub cat's throat.

8) Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.
9) Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans, drink one beer to take taste away. Apply Band Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.
10) Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another
beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.
11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of Scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of your last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.
12) Ring fire brigade to retrieve the friggin' cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.
13) Tie the little *$#'s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining room table, find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour two pints of water down throat to wash pill down.
14) Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.
15) Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and ring local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE... Seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant.
I'm a svelte good looking girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping, and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm yours. Call 555-1234 and ask for Vanna.  To see me naked on the couch click the link.

anyone need another reason to have a dog rather than a cat? here you go- how to render medication to your pet...

7) Retrieve cat from curtain rod, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

LITTLE JOHNNY ON ..... PHILOSOPHY:

A teacher asks her class,  "If there are 5 birds sitting on a fence and you shoot one of them, how many will be left?"
She calls on little Johnny.  He replies,  "None, they will all fly away with the first gun shot."
The teacher replies,"  The correct answer is 4, but I like your thinking."

Then little Johnny says  "I have a question for YOU.  There are three women sitting on a bench having ice cream:  One is delicately licking the sides of the triple scoop of ice cream.  The second is gobbling down the top and sucking the cone.  The third is biting off the top of the ice cream. "Which one is married?"

The teacher, blushing a great deal, replied,  "Well, I suppose the one that's gobbled down the top and sucked the cone."
To which Little Johnny replied, " The correct answer is 'the one with the wedding ring on', but I like your thinking. "

name, I can still find my clothes."

Shaquille O'Neal on whether he had visited the Parthenon during his visit to
Greece: "I can't really remember the names of the clubs that we went to."

Shaquille O'Neal, on his lack of championships: "I've won at every level, except college and pro."

Lou Lou Duva, veteran boxing trainer, on the Spartan training regime of heavyweight Andrew Golota: "He's a guy who gets up at six o'clock in the morning regardless of what time it is."

Pat Williams, Orlando Magic general manager, on his team's 7-27 record in 1992: "We can't win at home. We can't win on the road. As general manager, I just can't figure out where else to play."

Chuck Nevitt, North Carolina State basketball player, explaining to Coach Jim Valvano why he appeared nervous at practice: "My sister's expecting a baby, and I don't know if I'm going to be an uncle or an aunt."

Jim Finks, New Orleans Saints General Manager, when asked after a loss what he thought of the refs: "I'm not allowed to comment on lousy no good
officiating."

Alan Kulwicki, stock car racer, on racing Saturday nights as opposed to Sunday afternoons: "It's basically the same, just darker."

Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins: "He treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings."

spending too much time on one subject."

I just can't see how anyone can not be optimistic about the Broncos chances this year. Under Ray Rhodes' direction, the defense has improved dramatically. On offense, we have at least two injured stars (Terrell and EddieMac), if not more, returning to the playing field. We might be seeing the return of yet another star to the fold (Shannon). Due to the debacle of injuries last year, the younger players on the team have gained a lot of much needed experience. And the o-line will, at least, be healthy. Barring injuries hitting us hard again this year, I don't see why we can't, at the very least, go deep into the playoffs. I know I may be looking at things through orange-tinted glasses (I had them specifically designed that way), but the world sure looks better to me this way.

I don't think they (the other AFCW teams) ever held any real hope of landing Sharpe. He had already stated that he would take less money to come back to Denver. Looks like he was telling the truth and not just trying to get a better deal from them. But I agree, they gotta be REAL worried now.

I like to run alot of dime and 3/4 defenses, so i figure the better players i get out there, the better it will do anyway.  with romo, wilson, mobley and this other guy i drafted it works out pretty good.  I got pryce as DE, Chester as DT and i got pittman on the otherside (I have to fix that problem yet).

But middlebrooks and oneal are both my corners as is walker.  so it really helps in my dime packages and nickle packs as well.  i think gold's speed will help just in the long run for me at S, i always get burned by top WRs for just the catch mostly, but i'm into punishment. ;D

I still stop by the DPO board from time to time, too.... but it's rather dead over there in the offseason... the discussion isn't even close to as lively as it is here. And then, there are the trolls... it really makes a person appreciate TJ and Garcia's 'troll control' methods. :D

The past couple of weeks have been extremely trying for me. First I lost my favorite grandfather, and now my job. One of the few solaces I have found have been the people on this board. Regardless of team affiliation or opinions, everyone here is consistantly willing to be there for anyone who needs a little support. What I have seen here is, in most cases, more than I have received from some of my off-board friends during these trying times. I hope this tight-knit little community we have formed here will continue to grow but not loose the comraderie we have found. I would like to thank TJ and Garcia for opening up and maintaining this board in top form, BlueFlame, Watermock, NDGal, Errand, RR, Eyepatch, Jens, and all the rest of you for providing me a lot of fun and interesting debates. As I stated on another thread, I will be MIA for a while starting 5/17/02. I plan to make this absence as short as possible, but I felt I should pass along my thanks to everyone before I leave.

You've been a very valuable asset to the NPN community too, Alkazar... and your contributions to the conversations are going to be sorely missed. :'(

Is there any way you could log on occasionally just to check in... say on a friend's or relative's computer? Some public libraries make computers available to their patrons for internet access... perhaps that would be a possibility.... ???

Hang in there Alkazar!!!  Hope that you find your dream job -- like Errand has.

On a different line of thought:

Just drafted and rookie seemed so easy to accomplish, every 50 posts for a promotion. Now looking at the road ahead to be a pro bowler seems a lot longer(400 posts seperate rookie and pro bowler) :saywhat:

Hey Taco, one thing that might not be bad is changing the star system to include some mile posts like something at 250, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000  - just a thought to add some fun.  I don't know what that reward could be.

This week's restaurant review: bang!

SCHEF's SPECIALTIES
With each installment of his Broncos Mailbag, Denver Post sports writer Adam Schefter shifts from football to food. To visit his archive of restaurant reviews, click here. (OH, JUST WHAT WE WANT TO REVIW!) >:(

Nestled just northwest of downtown Denver is a restaurant that does a bang-up job.

bang!

What a great place. What great values. And what great food.

It won't take reservations, but ...

There aren't too many places around town, or in any state, to get grilled salmon with jasmine rice, wasabi cream and marinated veggies for $14. Or pan-fried catfish with coleslaw, hush puppies and jalapeno tartar sauce for $13. Or spicy peppered shrimp with pineapple habanero salsa and jasmine rice for $13. Or the best burger - imaginatively and scrumptiously, on a bun sweetened with brown sugar - I have tasted in Denver for $8.

Sides of sautéed spinach for $3 and toasted sweet potato bread also for $3 are equally good deals. And the fruit cobbler with bourbon sauce for $5 is the recommended dessert, though the gingerbread with whipped cream - also for $5 - was delish.

Not only is bang!'s menu lively, but so is its decor. Tables are painted solid navy blue. Walls are painted solid aqua, with tasteful yellow trim around windows.

It is a feast for the eyes and a feast for the belly.

And to throw in two more cents on the posting star stuff.  250 could be first time pro-bowler.  The 2000 mark, could be ring of famer... "insert name of a certain Bronco ring of famer" every 1000 could be a different ring of famer based on your perception of talent -- 6000 could be Elway.  I know you have better things to do, but just thinking creatively tonight -- or am I just slap happy.

Your call, the board is great as is.

It does seem like old times with Sharpe back, doesn't it... like an instant attitude transfusion. :-)

Can you believe that it was snowing here yesterday? We've had some really crazy weather recently... less than a week ago, it was warm enough that I had the air conditioning on in the car... and then it snows again! Thanks for the offer, Mock. Normally, I'd say my paycheck would be sufficient to purchase a new computer. However, I am, unfortunately, still repaying several LARGE debts my first wife left me with (luckily neither is allimony or child-support [we didn't have any kids]), plus my current wife and I are trying to adopt a little girl (who hasn't been born yet but is due any day now), and I'm still paying back my college loans. Needless to say, my paycheck barely covers these expenses and the normal bills at this time leaving very little in the way of saving for luxuries.
I really appreciate the thought though.

A women went into a store to buy her husband a pet for his birthday. After looking around, she found that all the pets were very expensive.  She told the clerk she wanted to buy a pet, but she didn't want to spend a fortune.  "Well, said the Clerk, "I have a very large bullfrog.  They say it's been trained to give blowjobs!"

"Blowjobs", the woman replied.

"It hasn't been proven but we've sold 30 of them this month, " he said.

The woman thought it would be a great gag gift, and what if it's true...no more blowjobs for her!  She bought the frog.  When she explained the frog's ability to her husband, he was extremely skeptical and laughed it off.

The woman went to bed happy, thinking she may never need to perform this less than riveting act again.  In the middle of the night, she was awakened by the noise of pots and pans flying everywhere, making hellacious banging and crashing sounds.  She ran downstairs to the kitchen, only to find her husband and frog reading cookbooks.

"What are you two doing at this hour?" she asked.

The husband replied, "If I can teach this frog to cook, your ass is gone!

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Detroit Red
Wings fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Red
Wings fans too.
Not really knowing what a Red Wings fan is, but wanting to be liked by
their teacher, their hands fly into the air. There is, however, one
exception. One little girl has not gone along with the crowd.
The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
"Because I'm not an Red Wings fan," she retorts.
"Then," asks her teacher, "what are you?"
"I'm a proud Colorado Avalanche Fan," boasts the little girl. The
teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks the
little girl why she is an Avalanche fan.
"Well, my Dad and Mom are Avalanche fans, so I'm a Avalanche fan too,"
she responds.
The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if
your Mom was a moron and your Dad was an idiot. What would you be then?"

"Oh," says the little girl. "Well, then I'd be an Red Wings fan."

Thunder 31, Claymores 23

BERLIN (AP) - Todd Husak threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to rally the Berlin Thunder to a 31-23 victory against the Scottish Claymores on Sunday.

Trailing 20-17, Husak threw a 2-yard scoring pass to Jeff Kostrewa with 8:40 remaining, and 46 seconds later tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Dane Looker.

Claymores quarterback Scott Dreisbach was intercepted a record six times. The previous league record of five interceptions was set by Pat O'Hara of the Ohio Glory against the Barcelona Dragons in 1992.

Safety Lelan Brickus returned an interception 22 yards for a score for Berlin (4-4).

Herbert Goodman ran for two touchdowns for the Claymores (4-4).

Pretty much speculation on John Fina vs. Brockermeyer for a backup position.

SB's elbow and Husak vs. JJ. I saw Husak play a little, he has the look of an NFL player. His arm looks pretty lively to me. Good size too. He looks the part.

Mock has to eat his words on Hamilton, he may be a little light at 285, but he is tearing it up over there, he looked dominating and tenatious to me. Not a bull, but really good technique, he was cutting them down like a weed eater. The NFL fine committee is going to love this guy.
