So... we'd recently noticed a distinct "shimmy" in our van's front end, usually about when we reached 40 mph. Today we took it in to the shop to find out what was wrong and get an estimate of what the repairs are going to set us back. Just got a call from the shop and their tech had taken the van out on the road to see what it was doing, brought it back and as he was backing it into the shop to work on it, the right front axle snapped in two. If that had happened at highway speed, it would have resulted in a serious accident, so we're feeling very grateful to our "guardian angel" right about now. Yikes!

Wow...very lucky! Glad to hear you guys didn't have it out on the road!!!

Winter weather sucks...of course, it's actually "average" temps for once this winter...although we only have about an inch of snow on the ground we now have -4 and getting colder, ground drifting, some snow falling and up to 25 mph winds! Yuck!

Yeah... what's scary is that I had been driving it (with the kids in the car most of the time) to my Mom's (100 miles round-trip) at least once a week since Thanksgiving.

Thanks, Sassy, STG, and REB... knowing how serious the problem was and what could easily have happened, I'm just grateful that it broke at the best possible time and even though the repairs will be expensive, all's well that ends well.

Blueflame

Thanks, Crush... :) It's good that the axle broke right there in the shop (and while the van was moving at a very low speed) so that they knew for sure that was where the problem was and could fix it. We drove that van to Denver last September and the axle was probably weak even then.

Slow Friday night on the mane.

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

And, after reading the back panel of the stupid smoke detectors...yeah, I'm supposed to replace them by 2007!!!! How the heck was I supposed to know that??!??!??!??!??

JABBERWOCKY
Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Yule Horror
by H. P. Lovecraft

There is snow on the ground,
And the valleys are cold,
And a midnight profound
Blackly squats o'er the wold;
But a light on the hilltops half-seen hints of feastings un- hallowed and old.

There is death in the clouds,
There is fear in the night,
For the dead in their shrouds
Hail the sin's turning flight.
And chant wild in the woods as they dance round a Yule- altar fungous and white.

To no gale of Earth's kind
Sways the forest of oak,
Where the sick boughs entwined
By mad mistletoes choke,
For these pow'rs are the pow'rs of the dark, from the graves of the lost Druid-folk.

AS IF SOME LITTLE ARCTIC FLOWER

by: Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

S if some little arctic flower,
Upon the polar hem,
Went wandering down the latitudes,
Until it puzzled came
To continents of summer,
To firmaments of sun,
To strange, bright crowds of flowers,
And birds of foreign tongue!
I say, as if this little flower
To Eden wandered in--
What then? Why, nothing, only
Your inference therefrom!

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night - d. thomas

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on that sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

*BUMP*

Maya Angelou used the words in this poem as the title to her autobiography.

Sympathy - Paul Laurence Dunbar

I know what the caged bird feels, alas!
When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;
When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,
And the river flows like a stream of glass;
When the first bird sings and the first bud opens,
And the faint perfume from its chalice steals--
I know what the caged bird feels!

I know why the caged bird beats its wing
Till its blood is red on the cruel bars;
For he must fly back to his perch and cling
When he fain would be on the bough a-swing;
And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars
And they pulse again with a keener sting--
I know why he beats his wing!

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,--
When he beats his bars and he would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings--
I know why the caged bird sings.

Kembra Pfahler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kembra_Pfahler)

Kembra Pfahler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Kembra Pfahler is an American performance artist, rock star, philosopher, and cult persona originally from California. She is known for the often sexual nature of her exhibits.

Performances have included cracking eggs on her vulva and sewing her labia shut, in her famous performance done in collaboration with Richard Kern titled Sewing Circle. She also performs an act known as The Wall of Vagina which consists of several women, The GOKB or Girls Of Karen Black, who are covered in body paint, stacked naked and spread-eagled on top of each other.

She is a major figure of the 1980s East Village scene who remains popular today. The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black is Kembra's band, which still performs sold out shows at both rock clubs and art galleries world wide. Well known in fashion circles and spanning the fine line between cult and haute, Pfahler also does film and video work. She follows the artistic philosophy of availabism, using what is closest at hand as both the inspiration for her work as well as the medium.

Interesting side note Shiobhan Autumn from the Howard Stern show has an arm full of Kembra Pfahler tattoos.

It was great. I needed to get away!

Had a wonderful time
Saw Blue Man Group
Played lots of Black Jack
Drank entirely too much on Saturday night...danced lots, though! Don't remember the flight from Vegas to SLC, though. heheehe
I did a spa day Saturday and got all purty! :)

Yes, won plenty on the Blackjack tables until I started drinking! Oh.....and they roulette table next to me was HOT! It hit 17 in a matter of 2 hours! People were laying down $50 bets and walking away with thousands! They had to call the pit boss down to check it out! Lets just say, TI was a bit worried about how much they were handing out at that particular table!
