i know evenrude wanted a thread like this and since its only a few weeks till NLOID, this is a key topic among college football fans. How is your team doing?

BTW, sorry DenFan but we stole a big one from you, he is currently a silent commitment at this time doing a good job of making OSU believe they are still in it.

It's been an interesting year to say the least for Nebraska. Some recruits decommited and others remain on the fence about the firing of Frank Solich. Keeping Turner Gill on staff will help alot as he was and is one of Nebraska's best recruiters.

Two key recruits are Cortney Grixby (five star CB out of Omaha Central) and Calvin Darity (four star OL out of Tallahasee, Florida). Landing two or three of the Tallahasee Five would go along way towards salvaging this years class (the five consist of Darity, Rodney Gallon LB, Joe Manning CB, Matt Owens DE & Danny Muy OL[who has already commited]).

Callahan has also contacted several blue-chippers, but it is unlikely any will chose Nebraska this late in the game. Some names mentioned are Brian Brohm QB, Rocky Hinds QB, Brian Toal LB & Tim Jamison DE.

thats interesting. Im pretty sure Brohm isnt going to Nebraska, and Toal is a B.C. lock but its good to see Callahan being aggressive.

Our class is looking very strong, but if we dont get willie williams, i dont care who else they stockpiled, it will be an utter failure. One player will make or break Miami's class in my eyes.

there goes Rhyan Anderson. ****ing Coker.

SoCalBronco
01-19-2004, 09:16 PM
ok DenFan.

1. Xavier Lee.- Grew up a Canes fan. Never got a UM offer. I do not know why. The staff apparently felt Kirby Freeman was a better fit for them. Lee has the strongest arm in america, apparently can throw it 80 yards as they saw at the all star practices in san antonio. Wonderful athlete. Initially UF was ahead, now LSU people are saying he is a lock and FSU is a contender as well, although they also have drew weatherford.
It will be one of LSU, FSU or UF.
2. Ted Ginn- yes i am very impressed with him. Was on OSU lock the whole way. Extremely impressive at the televised all star game. May be better than Whitner.
3. Rhyan Anderson- Wisconsin DE. Coker called him the best DE in america. Recruited very hard by UM since May, and we led the entire time as well. Coker had a visit with him this week, his head coach during the week said he was down to OSU and UM but said would be shocked if he didnt choose UM. Then came for his official visit. By sunday afternoon, we heard from another recruit that Rhyan "had a great visit", then when grassy.com's premium insiders recruiting guy interviewed him, it was a very bland interview. A bit later, an OU site interviewed him and he said UM was now third behind OSU (first) and OU second. He said they werent up front about him with him keeping his HS number and wasnt considering UM anymore. It is sufficient to say we were all stunned. However, the guy who does this interviews for the UM website even after seeing that interview thought he was UM bound anyway as did a similar person from another UM website who runs the website and does recruiting interviews for it. So something is fishy, either they are wrong and he is upset with something, or he is playing the recruiting game with everyone else.
3. Fred Davis- from all indications, he's a Cane. Coach CJ (Curtis Johnson) saw him tonight after Coker had visited him last week. It seemed he was going to announce last week for the U. but then our OC and TE coach who is also from Toledo and was recruiting him, left for the cleveland browns. Coker and staff then went to toledo to try and keep him and it appears that he is still privately committed but its shaky. I hope CJs visit tonight sealed the deal. He also said he was going down to Miami this last weekend to visit with his friend (and rumored silent commit or heavy cane lean Willie Williams) but since Willie was at auburn visiting he couldnt. Bottom line, i think Fred is a Cane.
4. Devon Lyons- nice safety prospect from PA. Its down to our two teams, Coker visited him last week, might visit UM, i think he is OSU bound.
5. James Bryant- another UM v. OSU head to head matchup, he was very high on us after his december visit but most insiders now think he will not come.
This is my current UM projected recruiting class with associated number for each recruit based on what i think their talent level is. (1- bust ... 5- solid contributor ... 10- surefireAll American)
6. Charlie Jones- he is a good prospect. Compared to Clinton Portis, very slithery, good moves. Had a pretty bad OL this year but still put up decent numbers. Needs ankle surgery. Not as high of an upside as our other RB recruit Bobby Washington but he has grade issues. The final RB recruit, Derron Thomas is a sleeper prospect, Nebraska coaches had said before he committed to UM that he was worth two scholarships.

In Sum: So far we have a good class. We stole back Lance Leggett from the Gators, all i want to close this class is somehow to get Anderson back, Willie Williams (a MUST GET) and Trevor Ford.
Without Willie Williams, everything goes to hell and the class is a failure no matter how many other studs are there.

It doesn't help Arkansas recruiting when Oklahoma and LSU are in the national championship game. Those two states border Arkansas. Anyway, for those who care......

Arkansas's top committs:

Peyton Hillis - 10th ranked RB, actually 2nd ranked FB, but both positions are combined.

Fred Barnett - 12th ranked DT

Arkansas prospect:

Marcus Walker - 3rd ranked CB also interested in Florida State, Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas A&M

Our top two 5-star prospects signed with Oklahoma.

Rhett Bomar - 1st ranked QB
Adrian Peterson - 1st ranked RB

It will be a big weekend for Nebraska's recruiting class. Supposedly 15-20 recruits will visit this weekend, many of whom didn't even have Nebraska on their radar until Callahan came on board. It will be interesting to see how many of them stick......

Good read SoCal:

I wouldn't be exactly sure on S Lyons just yet, OSU reported has verbal commits from Sirjo Welch and Nick Patterson. Welch looks like the top S in the USA, plus is homegrown from the state of Ohio.

Fred Davis will be a Cane, I'm almost sure of it. He's from Toledo, OH and it stings to see a great talent get away like this.

Ted Ginn will look great as a Buckeye. As I said to SoCal in a PM, Ginn and Whitner look to be the new age Clements and Winfield CB tandem at OSU. I'm really exciting about this signing, hoping good things can come from this.

Much like our class of 2 years ago, we did a good job of getting top prospects in Ohio, except Fred Davis. Marcus Freeman looks to be a real deal at LB, plays both MLB and OLB and has a motor for speed out there. We also kept OL Ben Pearson in the state, who we may need here in a year or two to be a big player for us, our OL is being depleted currently and we need our recruits to pick up the pieces.

Our long-shots seem to be DE Derrick Harvey and OL Leon Hart. Both have interests in OSU, but both have a few schools that are said to be in front of us. Harvey is another Terrell Suggs clone, he's coming in at 230 pounds as a DE, but has that great edge rush that Terrell did in college. He looks to be Maryland or Florida bound, with OSU in 3rd currently. Leon Hart seems to want to be at OSU more than Harvey does. Hart is an explosive OT from South Carolina, seems to be favoring Auburn right now but OSU is still diligently trying to persuade Hart to commit over here.

By looking at just the commit list as of now, OSU should land in the top 10 in recruiting this year.

i think in my post there when i was gonna rank the class i forgot to put up the class. This is my current projected Miami class.
QB- Kirby Freeman- very mobile QB. A project though.
RB- Bobby Washington- comparisons to McGahee, has the most upside of all the backs. Has grade problems, might not qualify.
RB- Charlie Jones- see above.
RB- Derron Thomas- sleeper prospect from Louisiana, nebraska wanted him very bad.
TE- Octavious Darby- good FLA tight end prospect, although showed shaky hands at the CaliFlorida Bowl.
TE- Dane Guthrie- may decommit to Florida.
OL- Tyler McMeans- huge prospect JUCO from McKinnie's JUCO. Staff very high on him.
OL- Tyrone Byrd- i dont know much about him.
OL- Chris Rutledge- massive, first team all dade country. Kehoe likes his physical attributes, a project.
OL- Jon St. Pierre- Canadian prospect. UM has had success with them before (Haji
Rosouli, Romberg, Mercier)
WR- Lance Leggett- tall and lanky. Put up tremendous numbers this year, recruited HEAVILY by the Florida schools, Gators coaches compared him to <a href="http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12576" target="_blank">Randy Moss</a>. Fierce battle between um and uf for his services, committed to UF, then to UM. Very nice prospect, with great speed and size. Highlight reels were awesome.
WR- Fred Davis- Ohio Prospect, extremely tall and well built. OSU, UM, USC battle.
DT- Dwayne Hendricks- top NJ Defensive Lineman. very good against the run.
DE- Calais Campbell- 6'6 and still growing. Colorado's all time sack leader.
DT- Joe Joseph- gets a good push, still not a finished prospect though.
DT- Dion Gales- Underrated Louisiana prospect, dominated recent all star game.
DT/OL Kellen Heard- Massive texas prospect.Coaches feel he will be an excellent DT or OL. Wonderful potential. Grade problems might prevent qualification.
LB- John Dunlap- quite the athlete, being considered at WR as well. Did well in nation's toughest football area, Dade County. Very good pickup.
LB- Willie Williams.- Nation's no. 1 LB prospect. Unbelievably Good. UM Fan website recruiting analyst says best LB to come out of FLorida in 10 years. Freakish abilities, truly scary to watch. Put up all star season long numbers in half a season of play. In state title game, recovered fumbles, got two sacks, nearly ripped off QBs arm thus injuring him for the rest of the game. Expected to be the next and possible best Great UM LB of all time. Kingpin of the class. If FSU steals him away, the class is a failure as a whole.
LB- Romeo Davis- interesting pickup. Did well against Dade Co. competition, 40 time is not impressive but showed good football speed and instincts. High school coach confident he will be the steal of the class.
LB- Josh Johnson- very nice athlete, top LB prospect in the state of georgia.
CB- Trevor Ford- typical Miami shutdown corner, excelled against top competition. UM-FSU battle, will decide tomorrow, i think he is a cane.
CB- Carlos Armour- Very tall and rangy prospect. Excellent hips. Very much a sleeper, UM coaches found him because of coaches in his area highly recommended him to coker, those coaches were former UM players.
S- Lovon Ponder- nice florida prospect. Not as good as devon lyons or kenny ingram but still UM caliber.
S- Anthony Reddick- UM has been on him very very hard, not as well known as some other prospects in the state, but has been UM's DC's top DB target.

Wasn't Peterson an Arkansas commit at one time?

I don't think so.

Adrian Peterson first noticed Arkansas when we played Texas. He was on an unofficial visit to Texas at the time. He liked our team, officially visited the campus, and we were in his final three.

You may be thinking of Skye Peterson, a former Jayhawk. He commited to Arkansas. He's a big juco center.

Michigan has had a handful of 5/4 star rated prospects commit already. The one I really like is Chad Henne from West Lawn, PA. He was one of the nation's most sought after QB prospects.

As a senior, Henne completed 60% of his passes for 1,700 yards for 19 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions.

its been a rough week.
Fred Davis...lost to USC.
Rhyan Anderseon....all but lost to Ohio St. or Oklahoma.
Trevor Ford....lost to FSU.
John Dunlap...lost to NCSU.
Octavious Darby....lost to NCSU.
And on wednesday night we will lose Kenny Ingram and Aaron Jones to FSU.
If if Willie commits to anyone else but the U. ill be beside myself in a furious black rage.
Thanks alot Coker, you cant close worth a ****. This class SUCKS ASS. Top 10 isnt good enough. Just two weeks ago we were on the precipice of having the best class ever, now we are filling up on B-Listers.

DenFan, fortune is about to smile on your boys. LB James Bryant (who we really want as we have struck out at LB with Brian Toal, Jon Dunlap, possibly Josh Johnson (tomorrow night) and still up in the air with Willie Williams) is close to committing to OSU.
I also believe Rhyan Anderson, the super DE who we were once the commanding leader for, but now have lost (there is a theme here) is OSU bound. Our prospects on Lyons are also declining with the commit of Reddick.
Aaron Jones and Kenny Ingram will be noles tomorrow.
We are taking a beating.
Davis hurts but since we got Lance Leggett, im happy at WR.

FADERPROOF
01-28-2004, 12:13 PM
If we do get Bryant, then we are set, Rhyan Anderson would be a nice addition as well.

We have a verbal commit from LB Marcus Freeman already, who I'm super excited about, adding Bryant, who is said to be the better Lb of the 2, would just be great. I figured Bryant was Pitt bound, his brother plays safety for them currently so I thought that James would go there as well.

Also excited about safety commit Sirjo Welch, looks to be a very good safety, along with Nick patterson at safety as well. Lyons would be a nice to have, but I doubt he'll be coming to Columbus due to the commits of Welch and Patterson.

Right now, I'd say the Bucks rank 4th, FSU LSU and USC all look to have better classes, and dare I say it, even Michigan might have a better one. So5th at worst for OSU is my prediction.

SoCalBronco
01-28-2004, 08:33 PM
Well, we are continuing to take huge body blows. I am reaching panic stage.
Aaron Jones.....finished second to FSU.
Kenny Ingram...finished second to FSU.
Josh Johnson (huge need)....finished tied for second behind UGA.

Miami is now experiencing a FULL FLEDGED CRISIS at Linebacker. We will have 4, only 4 LB on the ENTIRE ROSTER for Spring Practice (this is not even enough to go 2 deep at each position) and so far, for the fall we only have 1 commit from a ****ING SCRUB. Willie Williams is not a done deal yet and we have WHIFFED on our No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 prospects at that position, ALL OF WHOM we were at one point clearly in the LEAD. Coker is playing Russian Roulette right now by continuing to **** up at LB for the THIRD YEAR IN A ****ING ROW. The good news today that i found out is that James Bryant seems to have eliminated OSU and now we have to fight Pitt and UF (or more accurately FU) off for him.
I still think you will get anderson.
Stay Tuned.

Huge weekend in Lincoln. Callahan finally convinced Rocky Hinds to make the trip. Too bad it's been -5 all week with a foot of snow on the ground. I still think we have a shot at landing him........

Another interesting visitor is Jeremy Coley. He's a stud juco DE that had committed to Purdue, but is considering Nebraska now. This would definately fill a need position.

Charles McCoy is another juco that could come right in and contribute. He played high school ball in Tallahassee before sitting out of football for a few years because of grades. He seems to have a new lease on life now doing well in school and on the football field. At 6'-2", 190 lbs, and running a 4.5 forty, he could be a real diamond in the rough at the CB position.

I was pretty leary initially about Callahan, but he has done more recruiting wise in a few short weeks than Solich did the whole time he was here. I look forward to next year, when this staff has had all season to recruit. Maybe then we can talk about Nebraska competing with the likes of Miami, OSU and USC for commits......

i couldnt be happier. Zook and the Gators just dug their own grave with regard to South Florida recruits (especially Kenny Phillips) with this stunt. Notice how several UF eventual signees and players (see Channing Crowder, Taurean Charles etc.) have apparently gotten into trouble at UF yet the local DA has done nothing about them. Its also funny how the Gainesville Sun description of this incident is far different than other newspapers. Luckily, from what ive heard, UM and Willie are going to sing like a little birdie about Zook's recruiting tactics of Willie personally and in general if the DA takes one step forward. Jeremy Foley should call off the dogs, Gainesville is barking up the wrong tree here. I dare the Gainesville DA to even lift a finger. UM knows what UF tried to do with Leggett (from Leggett Sr.'s own words and other things), i will be extremely amused when Zook and Foley force the DA to back off.

Miami is 5th, not sure what you see in these players SoCa to say that your team is 2nd, but every board across America has Miami 5th.

USC and LSU are the huge strong classes this year, Michigan and OSU battle it out rivalry style, and Miami ends off the top 5 is what I've seen everywhere.

Well Callahan managed to polish a turd with this class..... but it is still a bit of a turd...

Rocky Hinds would have been nice, he could have stepped in right away in Lincoln and competed for the starting QB spot. Now he'll ride the pine at USC, and they may even move him to WR. The guy that I think will really shine from this class is Juco transfer QB Jordan Adams, he could be something special.

The Fourth in a Series Following Linebacker Willie Williams in the
Recruiting Process.

THE RIDE
When Carroll County Jail came to pick me up, I knew it was special.
They sent a whole private van just for me! I knew I must have been
important to them because I was the only recruit in the van. That
was tight. They made a big deal out of trying to impress me by
blaring the sirens and giving me my own armed escort. I felt
important.

THEY GOT ME MY OLD NUMBER
When I arrived at the jail, the warden told me that I could expect
to start right away for the prison team. They have lost all of their
starting linebackers to parole so the early playing time sounded
good to me. The warden took me into a room. They already had a
uniform set out just for me! I asked the warden if I could keep my
highschool number but he said, "look at your uniform Willie, it's
already got a number on it, we copied it from your first arrest". I
guess they saved #986347 for me! Anyway, I put on the uniform and
the warden told me "It's you, Willie." From there I got to run out
into the cell block with my uniform on. I took I got a tour of the
weight room and it was the best. It is the only weight room I have
ever seen where it is outside in the "yard". Man, they have a great
weight training program and some of those big dudes must work out
six hours a day.

DOWNHOME FOOD
I told the warden I was hungry and he took me to the restuarant to
eat. It was the only place I have visited that has a restaurant
right there. I asked for 5 lobster tails and 2 steaks. They told me
they were out of both so I had 6 sloppy joes. To be honest, the food
wasn't up to my usual standards. Fortunately, one of the playas
hosting me offered to toss me a salad later that night. That was
tight.

AINT NO PARTY
After dinner I was looking to party. I asked some of the
playas "where the women at?" they just looked at me and smiled.

I met with a counselor to talk about classes. I couldn't decide
whether to study liscense plate manufacturing or internet dating.

I didn't like the fact that I had to spend the evening behind bars.
I ain't no parakeet!

its becoming clearly obvious that Hercules (Anon) is a Nole or a Gator. The kid hasnt even been charged with anything and already he is made fun of as a criminal. Again as i said, Zook has just kissed away any Dade or Broward recruits for the forseeable future with this stunt. He has already lost Kenny Phillips because of this Incident alone. Trying to "Set up" recruits that arent going to go your way isnt going to be seen well at the HS in So. Fla. I wonder why they waited till after Willie announced for UM to go public with this. Notice how the police reports didnt mention that Gators LB Channing Crowder was also there and was seen throwing punches, and i wonder why Crowder, the last THREE TIMES he was involved in bar fights was not charged by the Gator Homer D.A. Bill Cervone.
If Zook doesnt tell his minions in the D.A.'s office to back off, not only will coker go public with the Leggett recruitment issues and he will never EVER see a Dade recruit again.

Warrant: Canes top recruit violated probation
Associated Press
MIAMI -- An arrest warrant was issued for Miami's top recruit on Monday, accusing him of violating his probation while on a recruiting visit to Florida last month.

Willie Williams, 19, has been charged with misdemeanor battery by state officials in Gainesville after a woman said he hugged her without permission. That charge spurred the issuing of an arrest warrant in Broward County, where Williams is on probation for pleading no contest to felony burglary in 2002.

Williams' 18-month probation term was to end Wednesday. He now may face up to five years in prison, the maximum on the burglary charge, plus an uncertain future with the Hurricanes.

"I am not talking to the officials at Miami at this point. I know they are taking a wait-and-see attitude," said Paul Lazarus, Williams' attorney. "I am hopeful they will take Willie under their guidance and he will help them win a national championship. They have to let the dust settle on this."

Miami athletic director Paul Dee said in a statement released Monday that the school was monitoring the case.

Williams, who could not be reached for comment, remained free Monday afternoon. Lazarus said he was filing a motion asking a Broward judge to allow Williams to surrender voluntarily.

"If that doesn't happen, he will surrender when the judge tells us he has to," Lazarus said.

More charges against Williams may be pending, State Attorney's Office spokesman Spencer Mann said, because the woman's battery claim was one of three complaints filed against Williams in Gainesville.

Williams also allegedly hit a man at a bar and set off three fire extinguishers in his hotel -- all in span of five hours. The unlawful use of fire extinguishers may be a felony, officials said.

"The other two [complaints] are still being investigated," Mann said.

Williams allegedly grabbed the woman against her will and held her face "against his chest and/or touching the victim about the body," according to the charge. It did not reveal any other details of the incident.

Williams had 83 tackles and 18 sacks last season, helping Miami Carol City win the state Class 6A title and earning Parade All-American honors. He chose Miami over Florida State, Florida and Auburn.

School officials said last week they were unaware Williams had been arrested 10 times from 1999 through 2002, mostly for burglary and theft-related charges, an admission that athletic director Paul Dee showed the background-checking process was "insufficient."

The arrest record and the Gainesville complaints were revealed on Feb. 4, the same day Williams signed his letter of intent to enroll at Miami and play for the Hurricanes.

State records show the last time Williams was in legal trouble prior to the Gainesville complaints was July 2002, when he was accused of stealing of $3,800 of stereo equipment from a Pembroke Pines store -- the incident that led to the felony burglary charge and probation sentence.

SoCalBronco
02-09-2004, 07:55 PM
wow, the Associated Press isnt as neutral as i thought. Usually you dont say "UM recruit violated probation" in your title and then go on to say the police in a complaint are ALLEGING as such.
There is orange and blow smoke all around this fire and i know for a fact Coker is going to retaliate for this stunt by Zook. Per the Carol City HS Lb coach and Head coach's statements, Florida will be shutout from that High School from here on out and you can bet recruits in South Florida are not going to take kindly to this.
Setting up recruits for a fall isnt nice, nor is it ethical. I find it funny how they are now saying Willie might not be charged for the alleged bar fight due to "conflicting witness testimony" when it has now been leaked that Florida's own Channing Crowder was also involved. What a coincidence.
I wish we played these bastards next year so we could break some legs. Zook is a marked man now, its time for us to play their game and sabotage them at every turn in recruiting, its time to step on Zooks neck and not let up.
This will not be forgotten. I will be FURIOUS if Willie isnt at UM in August because of a setup and some fire extinguisher and hugging some UF cow. We are all ready to release recruiting violation information on Leggett to the NCAA if the Gator state attorney takes one move.

My son has been contacted by a recruiter to a Big 12 school and although they have already awarded all available scholarships, are asking him to be an 'invited walk-on'. He's been told that if he works out, a scholarship will be available for him after his Freshman year. I'm just wondering what this implies in terms of benefits and routine vs. being a regular walk-on.
