ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The Broncos can’t replicate the speed of Colts defensive ends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney with their defensive ends in practice. Frankly, no one can.

“It is difficult to simulate that,” Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said Wednesday. “Really, nobody in football is the same as this team.”

That left McDaniels two choices: either accept that he couldn’t approximate their speed or come up with an unorthodox, creative solution. He chose the latter, announcing before practice that he would use defensive backs Cassius Vaughn and David Bruton as scout-team defensive ends.

“We’ll tell them to run because they are our two fastest guys,” McDaniels said. “That is about the best you can do in that regard.

“They are going to be spinning and they are going to be rushing and they are going to line up a yard offside too,” McDaniels said “Anything we can do to simulate it, that’s what we are going to try and do.”

It was an interesting read, kind of weird that the author used the same quote twice.

Actually a game where the screens and draws will work quite well.

thankfully the grass will slow them down some. but these two guys are the fastest De's in the league. I hope harris and clady are ready, I know if healthy it would be a challenge. Let's go broncos!!

how do you figure? If they can get pressure without using their linebackers this is in no way a good thing.

McD is getting creative... I wish that monster Moss could somehow, someway pretend to duplicate the speed and power of the Colt's DEs, but oh well...

Because the best way to deal with speed rushers is to run the ball right at them.

You suck em in, dump it over their D-line rushers heads and have your o-line leading out against their backers. Good match-up for us.

Looks promising... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/team/DEN

"Coach Josh McDaniels said CB Cassius Vaughn (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1245039) "is on his way to a black jersey" for his sterling practice performance playing the role of a fast Indy DE."

For those who don't know, black jerseys are given to the best practice performance players who best helped the team prepare for that game (so often times you'll see PS players listed due to playing certain roles on scout teams).

Leave the sprinklers on overnight, and tell the mowers to take the week off too.

This.

Or, pray for rain... and hail... and snow.
