View Full Version : Lowered Expectations

This is the NFL, and a team is always alive until they are mathematically eliminated.

I'm going to have to lower my own expectations for the Broncos after today though. They had opportunity after opportunity to take control of a weak Jaguars team, and failed repeatedly. They were always playing from behind and never really showed any dominance on either side of the ball.

McD is banking on too many unproven players.

The hope for this season is that the unproven players (almost all of them) turn into major contributors. Walton, Beadles, D. Thomas, and Perrish Cox especially.

The team will also need Moreno, Orton, Hunter, Ayers, and Gaffney to improve.

We're a long way away right now.

yep..that's the reason i predicted 5-6 wins this season

People should have lowered them after losing Doom, having an injured Clady and a couple of kids playing on the O-line.

Enjoy the wins when they come, but we aren't a playoff winning team without healthy stars and a quality O-line, folks. I mean... c'mon.

Yeah, but that Jaguars team was pretty bad off too, and they knocked us around.

The D did not show any improvement from the PS. Sure it is an early game on the east coast. I was hoping that trend would change after getting a shinny new HC but it hasn't.

Orton looked good underthrowing Lloyd, if he gets some of those up maybe they go longer...

At least now they have nothing to rest on and maybe starting out with a loss will motivate them more than starting 6-0. I still think they are undermanned on the front 7 of the D.

Yeah, and it doesnt help when you have guys extending drives with 30 yards worth of stupid penalties.

I noticed that we had trouble wrapping up MJD. Time after time he was stopped with in a couple yards of the LOS, and some DL or LB didnt commit to wrapping him up and bringing him all the way to the carpet.

OL- is young and banged up.
RB- They scare no one
QB- avg needs more help
D- Front 7 is weak

While I predicted 5-7 wins I expected to start 2-0.

I was happy with Ayers today.

Denver is not good enough to lose TO battle.

I liked the majority of what I saw today....but the areas where we are weak: run blocking and pressure on the opposing passer, we are REALLY weak, its not just a small problem.

I wouldn't agree that they knocked us around. We just made a few more mistakes than them and they were costly ones.

Meh... I knew losing Harris would be the biggest loss for us. Beadles got beat a lot and didn't block too well the rest of the time. I thought Moreno ran really well considering. Buckhalter is really in my dog house. After trying to break Harris' leg and then the fumble today, just give the ball to Moreno 20+ times per game.

Oh, and Khan was right all along, Dawkins has really lost a step. His help is late and his coverage is at best, WEAK! McBath better get healthy and show something soon b/c right now that is the weakest spot on our defense. That and Mario Haggan.

I don't know... they certainly ran the ball a lot better. But, this was a 1-score game with less than a minute left.

I'm not really disagreeing. I've been tempering my expectations for a while, now.

I'm very optimistic about our future, but this season has been looking a bit grim for a while, now. People are going to overreact, and that's to be expected. But, no thinking fan should have expected a huge season with us dealing with the things we are.

I'm just going to enjoy being a fan... hope for wins and hope for improvement from our young players. If we manage a playoff appearance... great! But, when Doom and Clady went down... this season became something very different.

Nice spin poops..we won only 2 games in the second half of the season.
We lost to Chiefs and OAK last year.

When i see the team this year, they are worse in terms of talent compared to last year.

I agree. It is bad enough that regardless of Elvis returning next year we need to draft a DE/OLB pass rush specialist very early next year. As in, we probably need to draft one in the first round. Should be plenty of good pass rushers in next year's draft and we need one to team with Doom.

Harris needs to be replaced on a full-time basis. At this point, starting one of the kids over there and developing them might be the best option. Harris can't be counted on to play football on Sundays.

I'd rather have a rough season this year than play patty-cake with Harris for the next few years.

It is too early to tell, but Denver is now 2-9 in its last 11 games. If they do poorly in the next 3-4 games, it will be safe to assume the decline last yr was a reflection on the team and McD as head honcho more than anything else. I still hope McD can pull out of his tailspin, but for the past 11 games his team's performance has performed nowhere near what his ego suggested.

I will say this...after so many questionable personnel moves, it doesnt look good when he's having meltdown tantrums on the sideline. The players have to know they have failed you without you running the gamut of curse words at the highest decibel level you can manage.

I think its way too early to start making rash conclusions
we played badly and gift wrapped this game to Jacksonville with the stupid penalties, the blown assignments on ST, and the fumble when we were about to score

just think if Kyle would not of gotten sacked on our first drive and Prater kicked a field goal
and Buck didnt fumble and we were able to get it in for a TD
that would of given us a 10-0 lead and could of really changed the direction of the game

I said 9-7 before the season, and saw nothing today to think we are going to be way worse

I've never seen an NFL coach not go into a tirade at stupid penalties like that. I would say it's the exception to not get mad like that.

Agree... McD gets a pass on his emotional tantrum. I would be more concerned if he just let all the idiotic mistakes go without a response. The players and their poor performance put McD in a bad position.

I don't mind the pointing out of flaws, but when pointing out of flaws is combined with a whining method of doing so, that's what irritates me.

For instance, McSkillet points out some flaws, then goes on to say Denver got "knocked around". I don't have a problem with the flaws, but Denver didn't get "knocked around". That's just ignorant/whining to say that.

We had injuries and new players added along both lines! The running backs hadn't seen any real action.

We lost by 7 on the road! Oh my it's time to waive the white flag.....

First time in a long, long time I didn't freak after the Broncos losing a game. Watched it right to the end without my hands over my face or a profanity laced tirade.

I realized we were on the road, we suddenly have a very young team starting, particularly on the O line. The O lines mistakes didn't bother me, it's a learning process and I do think eventually they will be good. A lot of their play hindered Moreno, but I've never been a big fan of Moreno's so no high expectations there.

I knew we would miss Doom, I think with him in there things might have been different, especially with Ayers picking up his game. My two biggest concerns were the front 7 and Martindale's calls. But overall I have thoroughly enjoyed just watching the Broncos play today and watching football in general. Oh, and how bad the Raiders were. Made me feel much better about the Broncos.
