Yeah, well it will hurt just as bad when the Flyers choke again.

Mock is grabbing Beezlebub out of his shoe box and throwing him in the cage. He can nab a puck with catlike quickness. He might have a little trouble covering the 5 hole since he is only about 20 inches tall when playing primate, but he will try.

I just don't get it, guys won't ever go out on the ice without their shin pads or elbow pads, yet they're willing to leave their eyes completely exposed with sticks swinging around and pucks buzzing past their heads at 90+ MPH.
There was a time when these guys didn't even wear helmets and the league finally woke up and mandated that everyone put one on. It's time for the NHL to step to the plate again and save these guys from themselves.

7-2 Flyers and Tie Domi shows that yellow stripe down his back once again.
Brashear wants to have a go with him, give him a little whack on the glove and Domi flails to the ice as if he's been shot. Then a scrum breaks out later (during which Domi wants no part of Brashear) and then afterwards Domi goes off on the referee for no reason at all and gets himself a game misconduct.
Pretty gutless when your supposed tough guy is intentionally getting himself ejected from a game just to avoid a fight with another heavyweight.
Yet another reason to root for the hasty dismissal of the Toronto Make Beliefs.

I'm here. The only thing I've heard, and it came from Hitch is that they both have upper body injuries and that's all they were disclosing at that time.
Okay, the only thing I can think is neither is seriou and they don't want to let the opposing team know where to put the bullseye.
I'd prefer it this way over knowing for sure. Honestly, Why do I need to know? If I know, then the Make Beliefs know. I am concerned though because I don't know how serious the injuries are. Keeping my fingers crossed.
When the 2nd period started, me and my brother turned to each other and said "where the phuck is Esche?" That's the only bad thing about being at the game (besides the cost of the tix), if someone is hurt, you have no idea what's going on. Unless you're a dork and you wear headphones during the game.
To the game. Jesus we kicked their asses. Brian McCabe flat out blows. He single handedly gave us 2 goals. Primeau is playing the best hockey of his career. He's a mad man out there. Every shift he took, he hit someone hard. EVERY DAMN SHIFT. I love that. My boy Branko even had a goal. I went nuts when he scored!
The refs tried to give the Leafs the edge early. But, like I said before, we will win this despite the NHl wanting a Canadian team in the finals.
Oh, and Antripov BETTER get suspended. Did you see JR just absolutely crush him ion the open ice by the net? We'll when play stopped, Antripov cross checked JR in the back of the neck. JR was hurting.
Man, I'm still worried about these injuries though. If I had to chose between Esche and malakov to have back it would be Malakov. I love Esche. He has been a rock back there but we have a proven vetern backup goalie that could fill in and we might not miss a beat. Malakov has been the leading playing time guy for the Flyers. He is gritty, big, mean and can shoot the puck. Plus, we would have to take Kapanen off the wing and move him back to D gagain. Sami does a great job when he moves to defensman but he is more valuable when he is allowed to skate all over the ice.
We should hear more by tomorrow and if we don't we should definately know how series these injuries are when the puck drops on Tuesday night. If neither are in the lineup Tuesday, I'll be very worried.
GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's Tie Domi in a nutshell! This isn't the first time and it won't be the last time Domi skate's away from a teams best fighter. He did it the whole series last season too. But, he did drop the gloves with Donald later in the series, only to get his ass whipped by Brashear.
Domi did it again a few years back against the Flyers in the playoffs. The guy he wouldn't drop the gloves with then was Sandy McCarthy.
Domi always tries to drop his gloves with average fighters. Today, he was all over Keith Primeau and Mark Recchi. Slashing at their legs, grabbing their jersey's from behind, rabbit punches in the back of the helmet all away from the play. That's how he is.
I was at the game, so I couldn't tell for sure how bad the "slash" was that Brashear delivered to Domi off that face off. It didn't look that bad from where I was sitting but i couldn't tell. When I saw the highlight, I laughed my ass off! Sure, he hit him in the wrist but the way Domi acted you'd have thought Brashear wound up and smashed his stick in 2.
Why is Domi trying to draw a penalty late in the 3rd period down 5 goals? He's a p*ssy that's why. If the rolls were reversed and Domi did that too Brashear, Brashear would have dropped him. He wouldn't have acted like he was shot at point blank range. Toronto is a bunch of whining cheap shot players.
Domi, Tucker, Antripov, Marchment (might be the dirtiest in the league, Just as SJ) just to name a few.
Oh well, this series will be over on Tuesday night. I guarantee it!

I just crawled out from under the boulder of that 7-2 pounding your boys gave my Leafs last night. Big Primeau's C also included a cape and boots last night cause he was like Superman for you guys.
That was as bad as game 7 last year, Leafs played like Loafs.
But they will bounce back from it, like they have all year, and make for a very interesting game 6.
What happened to Esche? Concussion from what? Malalkov is a a big minute eater on D, if he's out it'll hurt a bit.
Klee is out for Leafs, "lower body injury"
I gotta feeling the Leafs will be playing another game 7 in the Wachoffia Center this playoffs.........
phillybroncosnut
05-03-2004, 08:09 AM
Paulie, the good thing for Leafs fans is that there is virtually zero carry over from a beating like that. Yesterday is over and the Flyers can't convert any of those 7 goals to game 6.
The one player that might be effected by yesterday is Bryan McCabe. His game has tumbled southward. He was awful. He is probably getting killed by the media up north. He will be gripping his stick very tightly in game 6.
Esche concussion? Is that what they've said? I havent even heard that.
The only thing I am thinking is maybe he's had a concussion since game 4. he took a wicked slap shot off the forehead that broke his mask in game 4. Maybe he's had symptoms but kept them quite. Who knows. We'll find out I'm sure.

McCabe said it was the worst game of his career and that he fully accepts blame for the loss......he didn't give away 7 goals, but he did give two huge momemtum swinging goals in one period. Idiot.
Antropov should be benched, gooning the opposition doens't win you games in the playoffs.
About Esche, I heard on the FAN up here about an hour ago that it was an apparent concussion, but you never know in the playoffs, it could be his big toe.
phillybroncosnut
05-03-2004, 08:25 AM
True about Esche. it wouldn't surprise me if it was a concussion though. I just hope it isn't. If it is, he might be done for the playoffs.
Antropov really took a cheap shot at JR. 2 bigtime cross checks to the back of JR's neck. There was a Linesman right there talking to JR right before it happened. I'm really surprised that the Linesman didn't call a 5 minute major on Antropov. If that isn't intent to injure, I'm not sure what is. The whistle blew, the play was dead, and JR was standing still talking to the linesman when Antropov lined him up from behind.
The Linesmen can call major penalties and he should have in that situation.
Oh well. This is a mean series. Always are when the Leafs and Flyers square off in the playoffs. I expect the Leafs to come out in game 6 like they did in game 3.

You guys really believe in that reverse mojo stuff huh?
im so superstitious its sick.
my wife makes fun of me all the time, but its a long standing tradition in my family.
my sister and i talk on the phone during all the games, and finish EVERY conversation with "go avs".
we say that in place of "good bye"
when this game was 1-0 san jose, and the third period clock diminshing quickly, i called her to voice frustration. at the end of the coversation, i said "okay, go avs!....i GUESS!", and she accidentally hung up without saying anything, before i could get her back on the line to fix it, we scored.
in overtime i called her, and we decided NEITHER of us would say it. we scored 30 seconds after i hung up.
hopefully this will carry over to games 6 and 7.
yes, virginia, there is a santa clause, and reverse mojo exists.
.....but yours isnt strong enough.

Kariya tells TSN he's ready to play
TSN.ca Staff
5/3/2004
It looks like the Colorado Avalanche might get more ammunition in their bid to erase a 3-0 series deficit against the San Jose Sharks. Star winger Paul Kariya, who has missed the entire postseason due to an ankle injury, says he's ready to play in Game 6 Tuesday.
After taking part in his first full practice on Monday, Kariya told TSN he felt "terrific" and declared himself fit for Game 6. The final decision, however, rests with head coach Tony Granato.
Granato told TSN he was impressed with Kariya on Monday, but would wait until after Tuesday's skate to make his decision.
The Avalanche have other major injury concerns. Forward Alex Tanguay did not skate with the team Monday, but Granato is hopeful he will be able to play. Defenceman Rob Blake will be a game day decision. Blake missed all of Game 4 and most of Game 5 after suffering an upper body injury in Game 3.
Related Info
Pressure mounting on Sharks
The Avalanche have won two straight in overtime since dropping the first three games of the Western Conference Semifinal, but they could use the extra firepower. In the two wins, Colorado has managed just three goals - all courtesy of captain Joe Sakic.
The return of Kariya could be the spark the team needs. He scored only 11 goals and 36 points in an injury-plagued season, the lowest toals of his ten year career, but Kariya is still an impact player.
Kariya has been travelling with the team since Game 3 of the series, but remained on crutched and seemed unlikely to play.
A 3-0 series deficit has only been erased twice in league history. The Toronto Maple Leafs did it to the Detroit Red Wings in the 1942 Stanley Cup final. The last team to pull it off was the 1975 New York Islanders, who won four straight after falling behind the Pittsburgh Penguins in the quarterfinals.

I was going to start a new thread since this doesn't relate to the playoffs but I figured only those who cared would be looking at this thread. And looking at it closely I see a couple of comments about it already. Anyway, apparently GM Burke of Vancover has been canned.

Hmmmm, who would get bumped off the roster in favor of Kariya (assuming Tanguay's going to play)?
How about a little guy named Selanne?!?! Wouldn't that be poetic?
No joke that we could use Kariya for a goose to our PP, but if he's coming back early he could be just another liability....
there will be an open roster spot if Blake is out for game 6...

rascal: I don't think there is going to be any litigation. Steve Moore is a hockey player and is being well taken care of. Although I think a case could be made for Burke slandering Moore nad the Avs, there won't be anything coming out of it. Hell, is Bertuzzi going to be charged with a crime?! Even that's up in the air and there's a huge precedent for it in Vancouver from the McSorley incident.

the avs played Sauer and Blake in game 5 and only had 11 forwards (Darby Hendrickson was the healthy scratch).
check it out......
http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~104~2121890,00.html
By suiting up seven defensemen, instead of the usual six, Colorado coach Tony Granato positioned himself not to be short-handed on the blue line if Blake couldn't go. Though tightening the defensive rotation in the playoffs is a common occurrence, as coaches often give the bulk of the minutes to four or five defenders, the Avs didn't want to have that forced on them.
So when Blake departed, Colorado still had a full complement of six defensemen - including Kurt Sauer, who was in the playoff lineup for the first time in Game 4 Wednesday, with Blake scratched.

Yeah, but we'll bring Hendrickson back in and leave Blake out unless he's going to be good for more than 2 minutes. maybe they'll leave Hendrickson out and slide Kariya in to the rotation, there's still a chance for him to play with his buddy Teemu, but damn. Hendrickson has had waty fewer turnovers than Selanne and turnovers against the Sharks can bury you fast. Plus Hendrickson can fill in if the center gets tossed from the face-off and can hit pretty damned hard too. Anything to get Rathje to cough the puck up.

From the official site:
Hitchcock is hopeful that Esche, who has flu-like symptoms, can play on Tuesday night when the Flyers attempt to clinch their Eastern Conference Semifinal series over the Maple Leafs. Malakhov is doubtful to play after getting his bell rung, but will accompany the team to Toronto.
“Robert was diagnosed with flu-like symptoms and dehydration,” said Hitchcock. “He felt better today, and we’re hopeful that he can play tomorrow. We’re thinking that right now, he’ll be good to go tomorrow. His [injury] is not concussion related, or anything that was being reported. It has nothing to do with that. We’ve had two or three players have exactly the same thing, and have had the same symptoms and the same problems throughout this series, and he was just an extension of what’s been kind of going through the team here, so he’s fine, pending practice.
“Malakhov got his bell rung yesterday. I would say he’s doubtful for tomorrow, but we’re not 100 percent sure. He feels a little bit better today, and he had some activity today and there’s still some lightheadedness. Not as much as there was yesterday, but there’s still some lightheadedness. We’re going to have to take Vladimir through the pregame skate [Tuesday] and see how he feels. Right now, I would say that he’s doubtful, and would be listed as day-to-day.”
...well, at least Esche is expected back for game 6...that's good news.

At the end of the first period yesterday, It is said that Esche could barely move his body and he was saying he was lightheaded.
Those symptoms are very similar to what goes on when you have a concussion. Also, TSN were the one's reporting it as a concussion.

The Malakhov injury was a direct result of the cheap bullsh!t play by non other then Darcey Tucker. It was blatant intent to injure. Should he be suspended, probably not because it was a "hockey" play. But, it was still cheap. He took 5 long strides after Vlad passed the puck and at full speed jumped and slammed into Malakhov. Text book boarding. The boarding was called but I gotta think it was a great trade off for the leafs. Tucker in the sin bin for 2 minutes but he took out arguably the Flyers most valuable defensemen.
Let's see, If we could just get Patrik Sharp and Somik to figure out a way to hurt Sundin and mogilny by delivery a blow straight to their head's, we'd win easily.

The Flames had just had a pair of power plays so naturally Kerry Fraser and crew didn't have the integrity or the balls to make the call.
Hatcher has always been a cementhead who has this never ending urge to lead with his elbows. I still laugh when I think that Detroit is paying this slug $6 million per season for the next 4 years, he's painfully slow now, imagine how slow he'll be by the time that deal runs out.

Jiri Fischer is nothing more than a larger version of Martin Skoula. Wings fans have been waiting for years to see him develop into the D-man they expected when he was selected in the 1st round (the same year Skoula was a 1st round pick ironically) and are still waiting.
The only noteworthy thing he's done in his career is get himself suspended for his teams Cup clinching game back in '02. Other than that, all he does is make the same type of bonehead mistakes that a certain defensemen who used to wear an Avalanche uniform made and got crucified for up until the moment he was traded.

Not ironic at all really, Hatcher got exposed again and again in these playoffs by speed teams. It's the same reason his big, dumb ass was left off of Team U.S.A. for the 2002 Olympics, he's too damn slow.
If he can't keep up with speedy NHL forwards on a North American rink, how on earth is he supposed to keep up with speedy NHL forwards on the bigger international rink?
Along the boards and in the trenches is where he generally makes his living, but he fell asleep at the switch on that last goal. Play the man Derian, not the puck......oops, game over.

What the Avalanche need to do right now is forget that they were ever in a 3-0 hole. They needn't make the task look larger than it really is.
They need to see it for what it currently is, a 3-2 defecit. Interestingly enough, the Avalanche have come back from 3-2 down to win a series twice. In the '01 Finals against the New Jersey Devils and in the '02 Semi-Finals against (drum roll please) the San Jose Sharks.
I remember that '02 series well. The Avs had to go to San Jose for game 6, a low scoring affair. Ragnarsson scored for San Jose to take a 1-0 lead but Steve Reinprecht responded quickly to tie it 1-1. The game went to OT where the Avalanche got a goal from Peter Forsberg to win the game 2-1 and send it back to Denver. In game 7 they got the games' only goal from Peter Forsberg and took the series with a 1-0 win.
Hmmmmm, low scoring games, OT, Avs down 3-2 in the series. Starting to look very familiar.
I don't think Tanguay will sit out an elimination game, his absence at practice was likely just for the sake of allowing him to rest that knee. On the other hand, I doubt that Blake will play. I'm hoping beyond hope that Kariya is able to give it a go.
The Avs are a confident team right now, let's hope it translates into their play on the ice.

Shark Blamed For Swimmer's Death
A shark sighting over the weekend has closed the waters off Avila Beach through Tuesday at the earliest.
Port San Luis Harbor District officials declared the waves off limits to swimmers and surfers after two fishermen spotted a large shark attacking a seal 500 yards offshore.
Officials aren't sure if it was the same 15- to 18-foot shark that killed a Nipomo woman last week as she swam with seals.
Deborah Franzman, of Nipomo, was killed Tuesday as she swam 75 yards offshore alongside a group of seals. Witnesses reported seeing a large fin as Franzman screamed for help.
Lifeguards pulled Franzman to shore, where she died. Bite marks on her legs were consistent with those seen in previous attacks by great white sharks, San Luis Obispo County sheriff's Lt. Martin Basti said.
According to NBC4, witnesses claim the bite on the woman's body was a foot wide.
"Just her side was completely ripped out. She had gouges on both sides of her legs," said witness Travis Warren.
The harbor district is working with marine biologists and shark experts to develop a long-term water management plan that will specify how many days the waters will remain closed after a shark sighting.
Further south in northern San Diego County, a great white shark was sighted off the popular San Onofre State Beach. Park officials there posted a shark warning after the sharks were caught on videotape.

Calgary played with heart, maybe too much at times.. lotta penalties that were called or should've been called. But Detroit just rested on their heels, convinced that they had the skill to play at their regular season level and slide to the cup. Their coach didn't match the speed of line changes and got a bit outcoached as well. Things will have to change in the Motor city this off season.
Plain and simple, Calgary was too fast for the Dead Wings. They outworked them and also outhustled the older players for Detroit.
I think I would be the happiest I've ever been as a Avs fan if Colorado can turn an 0-3 hole into a conference championship bid against the Flames. I just hope Abey has his best in him tonight as the Guppies will be looking to pepper him with alot of one timers. Gametime 4 hours and counting! Its on baby! I believe!!!!
I expect another low scoring game....

oh yeah, and GO AVS!!!!!!!!!!!
That stinks with Blake, Tanguay ( AGAIN? HAS HE EVEN BEEN HEALTHY? ), and Kariya all being out.
Oh well, we still have a bunch of stars but I expect another low scoring affair. Abby has been great... he is maturing soooo much in these playoffs which will help down the road. However if he can win it all this year, that would be nice too! Not a bad confidence booster.
It would be nice to win in a blowout for once but the Sharks are playing too well for that right now.

Svatos was looking pretty hot in the last couple too. Hell, he has more SOG in this series than Foppa does. One of these times, he'll hit pay dirt or ice or twine....twine would be good.

MT: It doesn't mean anything, Peter doesn't even know how he got the nickname, it was the Swedish press that either started it or took off with it. At least that's the story I heard...hold on, I think I know where I found it..

"That said, a loss in the series will prompt changes, I'm sure. Tony Granato might well be out of a job because of it. Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya probably wouldn't get contract offers for next year, I don't think. Peter Forsberg almost certainly will play in Sweden next year (http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~104~2115368,00.html). His house is up for sale in Denver, and his father is coaching MoDo of the Swedish Elite League next year. Makes sense that his son would play for him. I think you'll see a younger, cheaper Avs team next year, with David Aebischer, Adam Foote, Joe Sakic, Rob Blake, Alex Tanguay, Milan Hejduk and Marek Svatos as the building blocks." That's Adrian Dater of the Denver Post.
I don't like the sounds of that at all...

Hey sol, thanks for looking. Just curious. I even looked at Swedish press. The only thing they said was that if you referred to him as Foppa, they knew you weren't from around there.
I have read a few things like that recently. This time I think the annual "Is Peter coming back" rumor might actually have merit. I don't think he is. Damn, that's depressing.

i hear ya mt, but we dont know if ANYONE'S coming back.
its a depressing thought, and one im not prepared to worry about yet.
here's my only thought on the topic, and its an optimistic one. (but i beleive its also true)
if we win it all, i think he's gone, and i wouldnt complain about it.
if we dont, i think he's coming back.
the bottom line is that he missed ALOT of time, as did many other's.
this all depends on what happens with the league, but if the league works out their issues, i think he's back for another year.
he'll KNOW that the team underachieved this year, and i find it hard to believe that a competitive person would abandon the opportunity to play on one of the most talented teams assembled in a long time.
i view it kind of like sharpe.
had we won last year, i think sharpe was gone, but since we got embarrassed, and he knows he's got a shot this year, hes coming back.
i think forsberg will feel the same way.
....as long as the nhl works it all out, and like i said i just cant think about that right now.

End of First. 12 saves by Abby already.
Abby's playing well so far. He has been a lot quicker then he usually has looked against the Stars in the first period. he definately is maturing right before our eyes. He definately has kept us in the game.
The offense and defense has been sporadic at best. We'll need to pick that intensity up on both sides of the ice if we are to push this to a game 7.
For a note, SJ has been known for slowing down after the first period although I don't really believe it watching game one and two where they took it to us late in the game. Gotta catch my breath here for a second.

Well, at least Forsberg drew the penalty. Got a chance to dig ourselves out of this hole a little bit. We'll see what we can do after the commercial break. Abby is shaken right now, our offense has to take a little of pressure off of him. To his credit, it should be like 4-0, not 2-0. He needs to hold in there and give our players a chance to cut this deficit in half.

Hejduk is on the ice... where the hell have you been since Dallas Milan?
Brougner has the worst offensive passing skills I think we have on our team. People send him a pass on the PP and he completely ruins the flow of the PP by missing the pass and letting it get out of the zone. ugh.
Amazing save by Nabokov... and our defensemen just left Abby to hang out to dry again. Ugh... ugh... This is the swann song as much as I hate to say it boys. Team isn't even on the same level in this game right now. Clearly some of our key players are killing us. I'd go out on a limb and say Hejduk, Forsberg, Selanne and Brougner have been very disappointing. Bad to see Abby getting bruised up because some of our players refuse to work or be consistant.
