Just a quick post, have to work too much lately. The D let Aebi down, a playoff goalie should've been able to stop Damphousse's goal, but the others?? That's tough to blame a goalie, Marleau was throwing pucks like Hejduk.... I didn't see the slash either, on the 5th goal what I did see was an SJ player (Brown maybe??) charging in on Aebi and not making any effort to slow up after the puck hit the net, crashing into Aebi and knocking him ass over teakettle. I mean, there was at least 4 fast strides in a direct line on Aebi. So if there was a slash directly before or after that it won't get a suspension, because of that...

04-23-2004, 08:13 AM
That is when the slash occurred, sol. I guess I didn't see the slash part. After I saw Aebi go sprawling all over himself, I thought oh boy. I will say, that player certainly did NOT make any kind of effort to stop his progress into Aebi.
In the DPO today, it said the league would be reviewing a shoving match that Chris Gratton got into with an official in the sin bin. I didn't see that either, but if that's the case, they give no leniency on that kind of crap whatsoever.

It was a defensive breakdown. Period.
And come on, there were fights in the third, but they weren't dirty, there was no reason for any suspensions there. While coming out fighting at the end isn't aclass act it's far from reprehensible, the Avs needed to take something out of the game, there had been a lot of hits after the puck had been passed by SJ all night, thats part of hockey and expected, so are the occassional fight. I for one was glad that the Avs were able to get some emotion in the game besides frustration and despair. Barnaby was f*cking awesome, he's not a fighter and at one point he was dealing punches out to 2 SJ players at once, then he and Brown waved the refs off and kept going until Barnaby shirted Brown. How many times to you see that in today's game? Brown chose to keep going, let the officials know because he was hoping to hand a little back to Barnaby. I'm not saying that this sort of goonery should be going on, but it was a passionate physical game, a bit of a blowout, and to be expected. We didn't try to take runs at their superstars, and it was a series of gloves off fights eagerly engaged by both teams. And SJ did try to double team Barnaby at the beginning too.
The refs made the right call, two roughing penalties, one for Barnaby and one for Vaananen. With 1:34 left in the game they weren't going to play anymore, so they left the ice and gave the Sharks a 5 on 3 which we did a great job killing.
Didn't hear about Gratton and the box official. The officials aren't supposed to try to talk to the players and the players are supposd to either be civil to them or ignore them. Really disapointed in that more than anything, I didn't see it during the game, but taking anything out on an official is inexcuseable.

Ugh.....
I've never seen the Avs meltdown like that before in the playoffs. Getting blown out yes, but acting and playing the way they did in the late parts of the game is embarrassing for them and their fans who have always prided themselves on rooting for a classy team.
Forsberg was a freaking mad man out there, He should of had at least 2 or 3 penalties that did'nt get called. He tripped someone in the neutral zone, than tackled him as the guy got up. He got called for a tripping that after the trip he cross checked the guy right in the face. I saw him make a couple wicked slashes low ones to the hands and legs, but slashes non the less, he speared Ricci in the back with the butt of his stick on an icing call. The guy just seemed like he lost it.
On a positive note they played hard when they were down, even at 5-1. They came very close to knocking in a couple of goals early in the 3rd. You just can't overcome the awful play in the 1st and early 2nd.
I think we will come out tommorrow and win, which if we do I think we get all we could of hoped for, a split at the Tank.

Foppa was out of control, but he was getting smothered by the two long hairs on that team and wasn't able to spark the plays khe normally does because of the clutching and grabbing. He also got fouled a couple of times, talked to the refs (well, yelled at them) and since nothing was done he got too angry to be the quality player that he normally is. He really was out of control out there, and that's exactly why Wilson chose to double team Foppa with both Ricci and Hannan. I can't imagine the Peter didn't tear into his teammates - he was pissed!!
As an Avs fan i'm not terribly disapointed with the first fight(s) of the third period - Boughner's was too much and they should've just called the game, but it worked out alright. That's what hockey's about. It wasn't like those guys all didn't want to fight, the fights were clean and agreed upon and gave the Avs fans something out of the game - hopefully the team as well. Somebody had to step up and salvage something out of the game. The fights were way better of a way than Forsberg driving Ricci into that buttress on the glass.

Anyone who follows the Avs knows that they're going to not show up or have a breakdown at least once in the postseason. Game 1 is probably the best place to have it happen. We'll have to see how the league felt about it on Sat, when the refs either start calling sh!t early or not.

I'd agree, but they did make an awesome call in giving the Sharks a 5-3 instead of just doling out fighting majors.
A brief note on Selanne. I would scratch him when Tanguay gets back, leave Hendrickson in. Selanne was playing much better at the end of the game (in the offensive zone) and got some quality shot and setups late in the game. That being said he was an absolute defensive liability, especially in the first 2 periods. Christ! How many turnovers/giveaways/just passing to a Sharks player - can one guy produce?!?! Awful, absolutely awful. Certainly does not warrant being on a line wth Joe Sakic.

Finally you guys are hearing me about Temu! The guy is a void!
You got to admit, SJ showed some class by not realy trying to score on that 5-3 advantage. thy just passed the puck around the perimiter. Then Ricci just left the final face off.

But they didnt.
Two Sharks got fighting majors along with Vaananen and Barnaby.
Vaananen and Barnaby got 5minute fighting majors... along with two minute instigation minors. - an automatic ejection. A la the 5 on 3 for San Jose Vaananen and Barnaby were actually in the penalty box untill they heard abou their instigation misconducts. So they both got game misconducts. A certain quota of misconduct can lead to a suspention. If they got match penalties, then they would be suspnded indefinitley - but they clearly didnt intend to uinjure anybody.
The reason they got the misconducts was how they started the fight. It was hardly consentual. Barnaby dropped his gloves over two seconds before Smith did and started punching Smith before he dropped his gloves. If was a dirty fight. Clean fight = both face eachother, both drop gloves consentually, and well thats it.
I was worried, and I was thinking, "Barnaby, what are you doing?" A stupid idea, cause they were all clearly pissed off. That could have warranted a suspension.
On another note... Sakic, along with Luongo and St. Louis are all nominated for the Lester B. Pearson. Its a nice nomination, but St. Louis deserves it this year.

Philly, "wtf are you talking about"
Serisouly, I'm puting up with a lot of crap from you. quit insulting me. you are the most intolerant person I have ever met.
I dont think you watch the Av's that often, you might not, but I thought you were a little more impartial. In that post I was talking about how I post on other impartial forums, and the people generally agree with me... It becomes a total hornets nest when you factor in rabid fans. I think you'll be suprised about how much I know about the sport of hockey, and how impartial I am. I am an Av's fan, but that doesent automatically make them right and everybody wrong.
Im not claiming that I know about the history of hockey as well as you... I dont, and I dont care that you started watching those Flyers of the 1977 death team.
I am familiar with them, I dont talk about them because I never followed them, but I have watched their games on ESPN classic. I watch as much hockey as I can, its what I do in my free time...
I know modern hockey though... since 3rd grade I've followed the league closely because of my obsessed teacher - Mrs Stover - she always showed up to school in Hockey jerseys, and my fondest memories of my 3rd grade class involve watching taped features of Brett Hull and Wayne Gretzky and taking notes on it. Hell, that was the year the Av's came to Colorado and she planned our geography lesson every day on whichever team was playing the Av's that week. I always got the jolly rancher because I was always the first one who could say who the av's were playing that night. If the Av's played the Blues that night, we would learn about St. Louis and the state of Missouri.
Then I did my country research project on the Czech Republic in 4th grade. The report was about 70% about hockey, and Cezh hockey players.
I was a Canucks, Flyers, and Rangers fan before the Av's came here.... Canucks cause of the time I lived in Vancouver, Flyers cause I lked the team, Rangers cause I just lked NYC. Obvously Im not to fond of the Canucks anymore.
I am the alternate captian and leftwing for the rs in the 5a Colorado league - CYHL - I led the team in points (54 in 36 games) and tied for goals (28)...
I know the sport.
You have instulted me twice - 1, when I said figure skating wasnt gay... 2, when I said Hinote was a cheap player...
1 - Figure skating is hard. I've tried it, I cant do it. Just recognize that its hard, and respect those who do it - for pursuing their dream - isnt that what America is about?
Pezman put it well ...if ifs and buts were candy and nuts... I said Worrell would be a hoss if he had skating skill. Maybe not a supreme point scorer, but if Worell could skate, he would score a lot more and play good defense, thats all I meant.
And the Brashear thing... al I meant was that he wasnt a super star. Is he the type of guy thats going to put up 70-80 points a season? No, but just like Barnaby or Domi, can be integral to a teams sucess. Brashear is slightly more talanted than a guy like Barnaby or Domi.
2. I was making the argument that Hinote was our agitator, and the he played kinda cheap. I got chewed out for it. What do you call it when Hinote pretends to fight and doesent, what about how he always leads with his elbow, or how he hits people from behind, or how he pulls guys down with him when he falls down?
The whole cheap vs. dirty.... people have different opinions on how it works. I defined the words to strengthen the argument that cheap would be doing somthing "unethical" wheras "dirty" would be like May or Ruutu, or Avery, or Kasparitias - players that make it an intent to hurt people. Hinote isnt one of those guys. Hinote is the type of guy who pulls off unnecasary (legal) hits just to agitate people.
At least I break down peoples posts and actually respond to what they say.
Jake said that I said Hinote was 'dirty' I never did so. Jake said that 'agitation' and 'cheap' arent the same thing. I agree... but they go hand in hand.
I'm sure its allowed to skip tipping a waiter at a resturaunt, but its 'cheap' and 'unethical'... thats Hinote for you. There are times when you are allowed to hit and guy, but it isnt necessary. Hinote does that. Thats the role of the agitator. That is why they go hand in hand.
Foote and Barnaby do it too... they strech the rules as much as possible to get away with as much as possible.
Holy God, at least I explain myself, which almost everybody here refuses to do.
Im not saying that you dont, but I wish you would at least have an open mind and not assume your self-righetousness so fast. Your opinion will not change, and I respect that, but you - everybody here - must realize that other people have opinions too.
So what say you?
I say we barbeque the beef between us and eat it down with a couple of Coors.
We dont have to like eachother, but we will respect eachother.

I'll agree that a clean fight is started that way, but I don't think Barnaby's was dirty, he was tasking on two Shark's players that were roughing him up some, he took it back to him. They tried to let him draw a penalty and then decided to join in. When the ref's were comingin the break it up, Barnaby waived them off and his opponent did the same. There's no way you're going to get a suspension for that. You could make an argument for Baranby taking it too far, but he was getting double teamed on some roughing and decided to take it back to them and get his team excited in the process. I don't want my team to bea bunch of goons, but that was about all the Avs can walk away from Game 1 smiling about. Game 2 will be very different. As it already has started to be.

How can we be leaving Marleau alone all the f*cking time?? He needs to have foote glue to him.
The refs absolutely need to be talked to by the front office about this one, in a 1-1 tie make a quick call on something you obviously didn't see wel land disallowing a goal is just inexcuseable. I kunderstand the emphasis on protecting goalies from too much, but damnit, the radio guys were saying that the puck was in the net.

Honestly, I think the refs made the right call on the Foppa goal. It was clearly shoved in by his hand, at least on the replays I saw.
This game absolutely sucked. I cannot believe we are down 2 now. They are getting damn rough out there. Aebi and Foppa are losing their tempers ( rightfully so ) and gonna be getting in some big trouble if they aren't careful. Letting them have 7 PP's is not the way to win. Ridiculous, sh!t hockey there. Does anyone know what happened to our D? They seem to have disappeared, as has our PP. As usual, when things start to go bad, Granato makes them worse by starting his line shuffling crap.
The Sharks are moving up on the dislike list really quickly for me.
I was kinda surprised on the Teemu benching. I didn't think they'd actually do it in the playoffs. Something's gotta give. Where's CO? He's always logical and calm. I need some calming down right now.
Clockwork Orange
04-24-2004, 03:10 PM
Not much analysis needed for this one, the Avs got outworked, outhustled and ultimately outplayed. They had chances in the 3rd but Kono hits a post, Hejduk waits too long and gets nothing on a 1 on 1 with the goaltender, Blake misses the net twice on golden chances and Sakic shoots the puck back into Nabakov when the entire top half of the net was empty.
You have to take advantage of your chances when you get them. San Jose did, the Avs didn't and the 2-0 series defecit is appropriate considering how poorly the Avs have played and how well the Sharks have played.
Back to home ice, it's ugly, but it's far from over.

You seem to know more about Hockey then me, so I'll just ask you. If it was a clean fight, then why did they give an additional instigation minor, and a game misconduct penalty to Barnaby?
Oh well it's over.
I still think the Av's will sweep the home series and take it to the house for game 6.

Not worried yet, the players certainly aren't worried. I saw interviews with Sakic, Forsberg & Blake on the news tonight and all of them said the same thing. Simply, we have to play better.
The reason I'm not worried it because I know for certain that they can play better.
This is a group that knows what it takes to win, they also know that if they go down 3-0 tomorrow night the series is over. So I expect to see a completely different Avalanche team tomorrow night.
It should also be noted that the Avalanche played their best hockey at home in the 1st round and were considerably less sharp on the road. If that holds true to form, expect to see this series head back to San Jose tied at 2-2.
Keep the faith.

i do agree with this sj, though playoff hockey is entirely too passionate to react that way AT THE TIME.
of course, the respect for the achievement would be there, but i'd be so pissed off about the avs losing i wouldnt exactly appreciate an opposing player having a great game at the expense of me and my team.
in other words, there's a BIG difference between a san jose player having a hat trick in a 2 games to none playoff series than a giants pitcher throwing a nono against the 30-50 last place rockies.

Yeah, a hat trick is cool. But its also very uncool when one gets scored on YOUR goalie. They lose some of their coolness then. To answer the question...no, I would never throw a hat for anyone but a player on my team.

You know what scares me the most about tonight, besides the fact that the giant is sleeping no more and is on thier home ice of course, the fact that we had about 10 sloppy line changes. One turned into a gaol for the Avs, and two more were great saves by Nabby. We can't make those mistakes in Denver and think we are gonna get away with a win. I hope thats all we worked on all day sunday.

04-26-2004, 03:19 PM
Same here Bro ......... We can still win this ....... I couldnt believe those Games though .... Forsburg has a bullseye on him and the refs just let it go ......
First off...the Avs are losing because they're breaking down defensively left and right. Also, they're not moving their feet, and they're sloppy. The Sharks have shown that if you want to watch them play they're more than happy to bury you.
I've come to expect people to get away with more when they're checking Forsberg. It's nothing new...it's been going on for a long time. Perhaps the refs feel he needs to play with a handicap. It's frusturating to watch. What really has me concerned, however, is how the officials are letting the Sharks run Aebischer. How many times have you seen Abby beating a Shark player on top of him about the head trying to get him off. I know there's been at least one in each game. All while the Ref looks on. I'm sure the argument is that the dude was puched into Abby by an Avs player. That doesn't matter. The offensive player must make EVERY effort to get out of the crease, and untangled with the goalie. It's hasn't happend that way so far. I was totally shocked when Peter got called for goalie interference...not only had a Sharks player crashed the left side of the crease...causing a huge bottleneck...but Forsberg had control of the fvcking puck. That is the first time I can remember an offensive player in control of the puck...being called for interference.
Listening to Pang try to rationalize the call was hilarious.

We are getting killed in faceoffs in this game. Huge disadvantage for us, I'm used to see Colorado win the majority of those things. Totally affects the rhythem of the offense if you can't get control of the puck.
The longer this stays scoreless, the more it benefits SJ. Blakes gone with an injury... thats not good. Ugh... Selanne and Liles are playing horrible right now. Liles, I wish you could take just one pass and keep it on your stick instead of letting it fumble around and letting the defense get up on you during the power play. Seriously pissing me off. ZZZZZzzzzz... credit to San Jose is doing exactly what they want. Causing turnovers and making fans fall asleep. Nothing is smooth for our offense. Its so jerky that we can't keep consistant pressure on Nabokov. Credit to the Sharks, they have definately suprised me.

What a play by Cheechoo. Colorado... once again the best talent and no heart.
For all the aquisitions that we've made... we still have never found a dominant coach that can solve an opposing coaches riddles for our offense.
Shame on the our defense for not helping Aerbisher when he had a really good game tonight. He actually looked good. Now its all about growth with Aebi. Can't realistically think about moving on anymore. Hopefully we can just take it one game at a time and steal a few to make it respectable.

04-26-2004, 07:41 PM
3-0, this series is over.
Nabakov stole one tonight as all teams need their goaltenders to do from time to time.
I'm not taking any credit away from San Jose or Nabakov, but the way the officials are protecting Nabakov while failing to protect Aebischer is having a profound impact on this series. The Avalanche look hesitant to crash the net, I can count how many times there was anyone in deep on Nabakov in this game on one hand. The tone was set early in the game when they made that bull**** call on Forsberg for goalie interference.....and then failed to make the same call at the other end in the 3rd period when a Shark player bulled into Aebischer.
A goalies life gets a lot easier when the traffic in front of him is limited and that's been the effect of the calls. It's ridiculous, but the Avalanche have to overcome it and find a way to get it done. They haven't and now all they can really hope for is to avoid a sweep.
San Jose was the better team in the first 2 games, tonight they had the better goaltender which is all you need some nights. Kudos to Nabby and the rest of the Sharks, it looks like their ticket to the Conference Finals is just about punched.
Nice way to be prepared for anything SJ... we aren't winning 4 in a row, not with the way Nabokov and your defense is playing. They are all over us. Credit goes to the SJ coaching staff who clearly know how to coach in the NHL... Grenato would have a hard time outcoaching a high school coach, let alone an NHL one. Its all about adjustments and either our coaches aren't making them, they are but are not teaching it well, or the players just aren't executing. Honestly, I'll attribute all of those reasons to why we are playing so badly... and then there is the super hot Sharks... they aren't helping.

I think we won the first two, and stole that one. Ebbby played a great game, that one banked off his back wasn't all his fault, I mean a guy should never get two point blank shots off without getting touched. I honestly think the Avs can win four in a row, In fact, I was afraid if we lost this game the Avs would. We also suffered a few key injuries in the middle of the third most prominate of wich was the injury to Ricci. Time will tell how bad the injury is, but without Ricci, there is no point in moving on. He's our catalist.

Wilson hasn't come out of nowhere, he took Washington to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998.
He always has been a pretty good coach, now it looks as though he's got a team that buys into his system and philosophy 100%.
On the flip side, Granato has no system or philosophy. He juggles lines and opens the door, that's about it. He might as well start cleaning out his office, the writing is on the wall.
Lacroix won Cups with unproven coaches in the past, but it looks as though he went to the well once too often and it bit him. A 1st round exit and a 99.999999% certain 2nd round exit is unacceptable and Granato will be axed.

I don't think I ever thought of him as being a master stratagist though, and he's had a great gameplan for both teams in the playoffs. I love this blue collar hockey approach. It suits my views. I still think the Avs had a decent plan in this game, they sure had a hell of alot more shots on goal then we did, but I think we ravened them. We D up, get a few lucky breaks, then eek across a late score to win bya nose. I just thought the Avs would be more intense. They don't seem to care (sept forsburg and barnaby) and they looked even more tired than us, and thats saying alot, that altitude looked like it was kicking our ass out there.

I say it's over based on common sense and logic. In the history of professional sports in which best of 7 series are used, only twice has a team ever come back from a 3-0 defecit. They were both in hockey, once was in the 50's and another in the 70's. It just doesn't happen.
My heart wants to believe that it could happen and deep down I feel as though this team has enough talent to pull it off if they get it together. But history, the Sharks, their style of play and the Avs shortcomings make it hard to realistically say that they've still got a chance in this series.
I haven't completely thrown in the towel though. I'll still be watching every game and I'll still root like hell for them. I just want them to go completely cliche and take one game at a time.

Were'nt they both the Habs that came back from down 3-0?
Starting Salo isn't a bad option. Hear me out first CO.
You know your Hockey so this may make more sense then seeing it on the surface.
How many times have you seen a coach, in a game, pull the goalie after the TEAM was playing like sh!t? It happens alot. the goal is not to place all the blame on the goalie, rather, it is to shake the team up. It's the coaches way of saying "WAKE THE PHUCK UP A$$HOLES". Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. The Av's are in desperation mode and desperate times call for desperat measures. If I were Granato, I would call Abby in and let him know that it is nothing against him, but he wants to shake the team up. If Abby hears it first hand, it won't shake his confidence.
Now, let's say the unthinkable does happen, and the Av's come back in the series? Wow! he'd almost have to stick with Salo.
I think that would be a problem the Av's would love to have.
Summary: Benching Abby is not a punishment to Abby but it is a wake up call to the team.
I'd try it. What do they have to lose?

It is indeed MT, but what is worse is that what few fans the NHL gets via TV contracts et al. will turn to anything else. Its sad to see the sport dying the way it is. Maybe they need wholesale changes after this year anyway. Starting with bringing in the olympic size rinks and get rid of the blue line. Marketing of the sport could use a shot in the arm as well.
It would be nice to actually turn it to sportscenter and see those NBA loving hacks actually show NHL highlights during the post-season. They need to seperate the NBA and NHL playoffs further so that the NHL will be more visible. Ugh... so many depressing thoughts... I need a beer.

No, I don't think either was the Habs. I believe one was the Leafs and the other the Islanders, but don't quote me on that, I'm going on memory.
I've seen coaches bench a goaltender for the sake of a shakeup, but in this case I don't see it as a good idea. Salo isn't a viable option because he's never shown anything to suggest that he's a bonafide playoff goaltender. If he goes out there and lays an egg, people will say that Granato pissed away any chance the Avs may have had to get back into the series.
Besides, I'd hate to see Aebischer's confidence take a hit like that when he's neither the sole or even main reason the Avs are in a 3-0 hole. The kid has game, he's going to be the #1 goaltender for this team long after Granato gets his pink slip.

You could do that SJ, shake up the scoring lines. But, I gotta think that the lines that are in place have the best chemistry with each other or they wouldn't be together in the plaoffs. All coaches get their lines together come playoff time mostly on Chemistry and how the produced together during the season.
Mixing up the lines has far more negative results right away then positive. If it were the Reg season, sure, change the lines because there is time to gell. But, when you are down 3-0, you have zero time.

SJ you'd love the atmosphere in Denver for the playoffs. All the bars are always packed. Can you believe, I went to the Chophouse (Great denver restaraunt) one night a few years ago to have dinner and watch the Avs playoffs game.
Normally its damn near impossible to get a seat at the dinner end for a few hours but it was the exact opposite when the Avs played. The bar side was jam packed.
That is one of the problems here in SoCal. Even when the Ducks were doing well, it was "All Lakers, All the Time" Ugh. The NHL needs to make better inroads to the casual viewer. But, I bet that San Jose is probably getting pretty excited about the team right now. Come conference finals time, the area will be buzzing.

I like the analogy. Lets see if I can follow it up.
Football is my god, baseball is my devil, hockey is my sping angel, and basketball is the tide that comes in at the same time every year and smells like seaweed.

Philly is a great sports town I hear. If you go into downtown SJ about two blocks in all directions of the areana off of santa clara street, you'd think that sharks colors were the dress code to get into town, but outside of that, its a bumpersticker and a few hats and jerseys on an odd day at the mall. Its realy weird. I know there are hundereds of thousands of die hard shark fans. i see them at the tank and in the streets in downtown, but for some reason we all go into disguise outside that area. SJ buzzes with hockey though. If you go to the mall and yell out go sharks (and I've done it) everyone starts to cheer, but no one realy eeks it from thier pours like other towns.

Sports news headline, Sharks, Better to be lucky than good.
I told you the news here in the bay area thinks the Avs are REALY good.
The Sharks are saying they refuse to celebrate a win over the avs till its the fourth one.

good job again for the Sharks....it's boring hockey, but the sharks are puting on a clinic running that god awful 1-2-2 trap. The avs are not a dump and chase team, so I'd say this series is done. :cuss: :gripe: :drown: :-[ :garcia: :vermeil:

Every team is a trap team anymore when they have the lead in the 3rd period.
The Devils and Minny run the trap once they get the puck drops. That's the only difference.

of course, but the avs are not disciplined enough to play it like the Sharks. The Sharks play their trap for 60 minutes, the avs play it when they get the lead. Not good when the Avs have had so much trouble scoring all season.

Damn Griese .... it is all his fault ........ it has been a good year , I could handle losing the second Round as long as the Redwings and Canucks are out of it .....
Canucks are done , Just need the Deadwings to lose .........

Absolutely f*ckin wonderful. Blake may be gone for a long time. A short time actually, considering our season is just about done. This one also has Foppa's comments on that bullsh!t interference call.

HA! Some consolation tonight. Flames beat the Wings! If we go, its only fair the Wings should go too. ( If that actually happens, I will be shocked, but I can hope! )
Hey all you NOT worried about the Lightning....another win. Tougher than you guys think! Say its the Habs or Bruins all you want, but they are tough.

I doubt it. The bullies are all in their 50's by now.
As for the current Flyers team, I don't know. Tampa isn't the best matchup you could hope for. Speed & skill all over the place, you can't hit or pound on what you can't catch. Then there's the fact that they've got The Bulin Wall back there, he runs hot and cold sometimes, but when he's hot he's unbeatable.....and he's been hot for the majority of the postseason.
Just take care of Toronto and their insufferable fans & media. I'll be glad to see them gone.

it just looks like TB's season.... I called TB/DET at the beg. of the post season - they were my favs, but i would have thought th east would have been more of a wild card without a dominate 4 like the west has...
PA is a good sports state, they love their eagles & steelers - and you find alot of ravens fans in the south-central/south-east part of the state.... and afterall we got 2 pro hockey teams, and a BOATLOAD of minor hockey teams - that i dunno, from PA's point of view hockey's pretty popular

Philly's problem for the past decade was goaltending. If Esche can keep up his play of late, this team won't be able to use that same excuse. The Flyers in the 80's were a dominant team, but the Oilers were all that and then some. I think that they would match up well against T BAy. Even though my Habs are going to be likely swept, they put the hurt on some of their key players. If Philly carries on with that style of bang and crash play, they should prevail.
It's funny how 3 of the goaltenders that could play in the next round, are from Russia... Bulin, Kipper and Nabakov all are having a great playoff so far. Maybe it's a sign... the changing of the guard in the nets.
Go Flames!! You are our only (Canadian) hope!! :)

It happened in '86 I beleive. The cause? When they started making building taller the Billy Penn. Once those buildings stretched above the hat on William Penn, the titles went Bye Bye!
The last major championship for the Philly area was in '85 when Villanova beat G'Town for the National Championship in Hoops!

I've been very quiet for a long time now Hogan, but I can no longer be silent!!!
Leafs will win this one tonight. They may not win another game this year, but they win tonight.
Philly seems more focused then in recent years(with all them bad goalies) Esche is in the zone Belfour was in vs. Ottawa. But tonight the Leafs win.

As expected, Blake won't be going tonite, it sounds. Kurt Sauer will get the start. Oh well, we're on a wing and a prayer anyway. Might as well throw some more adversity into the mix. But hey, at least Sauer played the WHOLE postseason with the Ducks last year.

I would've bee here from the start of the series but shift work limits my on line tim. It's bad enough I have to listen to the weeknight games on the radio, and AM barely comes in where I work.

Ooooo....that is a bummer. If I don't get to see it on TV, well I don't know what I'd do. I've never had that happen.
You don't want to hear the dreaded s word as much as we don't then. I noticed Pat Quinn is kinda changing things up for tonight's game. Said that they were putting Wade "the slasher" Belak in Nieuwendyk's place, and changing some of the lines up a bit.
