If I had to I'd probably pick Alaska.

Been through Utah quite a few times and it doesn't appeal to me. Oregon is one place I haven't visited, but would like to.

The general problem for Utah (at least it was for me, a kid growing up in CO), was that Utah brought up visions of Moab-while Moab is not my favorite place (it's ok to visit), the Uintah Mountains are so breath-taking, and you don't get all of the idiots up there like you do in Colorado-Utah is a great secret to those who know-

Obligatory OM remark... South Carolina.
I would probably look at Nevada. Idaho and Montana would also be contenders.

Upstate NY.
Nah, believe me it's wayyy overrated.
Personally, I loved living in the south (NC & GA) and I miss it more than I ever thought I would. Got a friend in Austin TX that swears up and down that there's no better place to live in the entire country.

I enjoy the area and think it's beautiful. Besides I enjoy the winters and large amount of snowfall.
I lived In Marietta Ga. for a short time and didn't care for it much.

Santa Barbara, CA. Love that town, but I would need a lot of money for that. sighhh

It is picturesque, I'll grant you that, but that snowfall gets real old after a couple of years though.
I was on the other side of Atlanta, more towards Athens and really liked it for the short time I was around there. I had better employment oppertunities near Charlotte at the time, so I had to make the move.

Easy. Wyoming.
Huge rivers, great fishing/hunting, no income tax, less government, cheap land with water. Amazing deals up there Nut. In fact I'm in the process of subdividing a ranch up there right now. Each lot will have it's own private hot spring.:)
I'll have more info later if you are anyone else was curious.

Oregon or Coronado.
And for those who chose Utah, close ski resorts and the greatest snow on earth.

why? What is a party head exactly? I just thought Santa Barbara was a cute community, easy walking to most things and the beach and thought it was quite mild and pretty when I visited a couple times. But CA in general is quite expensive and Santa Barbara is quite expensive on its own.
I like Boulder too, but I think being raised in CA and AZ makes me like warmer climates.

My wife informed me that she does not want to live in Texas just because George Bush lives there. I told her that it was a big state. But, whatever...Ha!
In answer to the question, I still want to move to Colorado. Maybe, someday...

North carolina, I hear I can get a job out there and there are hot waitresses out there.
Seriously though, If I had to move from colorado- and stay in the us, I would probably go to Florida....I dont care much for the place, but I thrive in warm weather and I love the ocean, fishing, boating and bikinis. Maybe one of the carolinas but I have never been there in the winter so I am not sure what it would be like.
I have been to almost all 50 states and I like a lot of places better.

Colorado is the best place to live and have no intention of leaving, but north New Mexico and all of Idaho are amazing. I lived on the Texas coast for a while and anywhere from Galveston to Houston would be nice too.
If the question was, "Anywhere outside the US" I'd have to say Perth or Gothenburg.

When I think of Upstate New York, I always think of the Paul Newman movie "Nobody's Fool" ... it looked dark, bleak and cold.
Great movie though.

Well,
I'm moving back to North Dakota for the time being. I really enjoy it up there.
As far as places I'd go, I think I would be good anywhere.
Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington all interest me a great deal. Colorado as well. Minnesota is okay too, but there aren't mountains there.
I've always heard the Carolina's are really majestic, and from what little I saw of South Carolina, I agree -- though I'm not too keen on living in the South. I'm not sure that the Northeast is where I would want to be either.

Nah, it's not that bad at all, unless you live right on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario or Lake Erie. Those are tough areas to live IMHO, the lake effect snowfall rates will blow your mind there.

Maybe one of the carolinas but I have never been there in the winter so I am not sure what it would be like.
I laughed at the so-called winters while I was in North Carolina. Temps in the 40's & 50's and with a half inch of snowfall, everything closes down as if a major disaster was occuring (which was very strange to me since the snow always had melted away by noontime).

I'll probably always have a home in Austin (the birthplace and final resting place of all that is cool)---but I see myself venturing west to Denver first and then onward to San Diego at some point in my life.

I'm late to the party but interesting thread.
Places I have lived in the past - Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, Michigan, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, and Kentucky (some places multiple times)
Each place had it's good and bad. Arizona was the only one that I just did not enjoy at all. Sadly, I didn't enjoy Colorado all that much. I'm a mid-westerner at heart and while the area was beautiful, it just never really felt like home. I'm considering moving to Florida but I can envision that decision backfiring as I'll think it'll be like I'm on vacation but the sunburns and constant humidity will have me miserable.
In the end, I almost think I'd like to go back to Michigan if given the chance. I don't know why as nothing particularly appealed to me but it was just quaint enough and I love a beautiful winter. Being resistant to culturization scares me away from the North East.

Apart from Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Johnson, what else has come from Austin that could be construed as "cool?" ;)

Haven't seen the movie, but ya sounds about right. You forgot the crushing taxes, too. While there is definitely some nice areas and some good months up there, the place needs more sun. Speaking of sun - dont you live in dark and bleak Seattle?
