View Full Version : Rival Fans on the Orange Mane

-Slap-

Today's question is which AFC West rival has the more knowledgable fans represented here on the Orange Mane?

Granted, the overall talent pool we're talking about here is thin. Very thin.

Oakland: Reluctantly, I must cast my vote with the Raiders. A few of their fans here seem to understand the game of football, even if their choice of favorite team couldn't be worse. Now, obviously I'm not talking about Patch, who's more like a crazy old uncle we keep locked in the attic. Besides, it seems clear he's a closet Bronco fan anyway. TheNextStep has consistently displayed good (if biased) football takes. Njbil and Poclman's musings also seem to be worth the time spent reading them.

Kansas City: The Chiefs are a tougher call. Before the oh-so-predictable choke job, their fans all had their peckers up and were pretty much insufferable across the board. Now that they've endured the ritual humiliation, they're much more managable. Still, I find even the best among them to be pretty boring.

San Diego: I would critique the Chargers fans if I could think of one.

:Broncos:

TNS consistently posts good takes. For his point of view alone I have to give the edge to the Faid.

I agree with Slap though, the talent pool is thin... especially when you're talking about the Chargers. Anyone remember Shogun? Dude honestly believed the Chargers were going to have the best defense in the West! What a joke!

As much as I'd like to vote for Chiefs fans here, I can't. Even on the Chiefs own board, the best football takes often come from the Raiders fans (though many of them disappeared once the Raiders went south). But on this board, TNS, njbil, and Maximum come to mind as Raiders fans who know their stuff...

Rock Chalk
01-13-2004, 09:17 PM
TNS and RR come through with solid takes.

ROY and RINGLEADER lead the pack amongst the Chef fans.

rustyfari and shogun are the only two chargeless fans I can think of and of the two rustyfari has better takes.

Based on a whole though i gotta go with the Fade. Poclman, RR and TNS (along with Patch when he isn't PMSing) and recently njbil have some solid football takes and that pretty much sums up most of the Fade contingent here.

I honestly believe ROY and RINGLEADER have the BEST takes of rival fans but on the whole, they are two amongst a sea of silliness whereas the Fade have about 80% of their posters being intelligent enough to talk about football.

It's a good thing the Denver Broncos fans weren't included in this poll, because since there is no way they would win because of people like Alec, FLAMER, Taco, Anubis, they will never have anything intelligent to say about their team. All they have to say is "You're an idiot" if you don't agree with them that the Broncos are the best team in the NFL and were part of a conspiracy all season long for the Donkeys' demise.

ENDelt, you dont really post regular enough for me to keep your takes in memory. Oh I know you are a regular, and I vaguely remember a football take or two from you but I wouldnt be able to tell you if it was good or not.

RINGLEADER and ROY stand out because they were aware of their own teams flaws and freely admitted them. That to me, is a sign of a good rival fan. Sure thy throw the smack down like good rival fans do but they also are realistic about their actual, non-smack, football takes.

you know down Deep Portis is better ... you want to get serious ok ... you got it ......
First off Portis is 22 , Prist is over 30 .........
Portis has done more in his first 2 Years then Holmes . ....
With Portis being younger he has alot more of a future then Holmes ......
Portis has More Rushing yards then Holmes ......
Portis 290 Carries 1591 yards
Holmes 320 carries 1420 Yards .........
Did Holmes even come close to Sniffing 3,000 Yards in his first 2 Years ?

Age has nothing to do with who is currently better....It's a factor in determining who you would rather have long term but doesn't make him better. I would much rather have Portis over Priest due to age but that doesn't make him better. For example, I would rather have Charlie Rogers over Jerry Rice but currently Rice is still the better WR.

i admit it, i voted chiefs.

the question posed was for HERE, so i can see why raiders are winning.
there are a few solid raider fans, and not many trolls, but there just arent that many regular posters.

rustyfari posts occasionally for the chargers, but thats not enough to go on.

i really voted based on OVERALL fans, and even though the question was for the orange mane, i cant vote for the raiders fans in any way. ive witnessed them kill people (steeler fan many years back) when they dont like them.

i know i shouldnt stereotype, and there are certainly a few good raider fans (oxymoron?) here, but OVERALL i think the chiefs fans are a similar breed to bronco fans.

AS A WHOLE, they are loyal, fanatical, loud, and generally quite knowledgable.
while there are exceptions to every rule, i cant say the same about the majority of raider fans.

we certainly have our share of chief trolls here, but i wont let that cloud the fact that there are alot of good chief fans.

Portis is a stud, no doubt about it and he has more big play HR ability than Holmes but Holmes is a more durable grinder that is more dependable and consistent. If it is 4 and 2 with Super Bowl on the line and I am going to have to run it I would much rather have Holmes making that carry than Portis. That is no slam on Portis it is just a compliment to Holmes. Holmes has very good speed and quickness but that isn't what separates him from the others what separates him from most backs is his balance. He has phenomenal balance and is damn tough to knock down by one player even if they get a good lick on him.

2) tie D. McCallister/C.Portis

Raiders ? Seriously ? There has to be more Chiefs fans here than Raider fans..... but at the same time, I do know of a few guys that trolled around that has many of you guys rilled up.I would think that the bigger # of rival fans would create a higher # of knowledgeable fans.

As for knowledge, all teams have fans that have it, many fans who want it, and many fans are, well, just fans, not knowing the difference between a I formation, wing T, or a pro set, split right, 2 wide, etc. Some fans get caught up in the game that all they know about is we won or we lost.

This is a good place as any to voice one minor complaint I have of The Orangemane. There's some much ''smack'', which consists of nothing but endless ''yadda yadda yadda'' stuff over and over, that it drowns out most of the real talk about our Broncos and the NFL in general. There's just so many times I can read about Trent Green and Greg Robinson before I begin smashing my head into the wall AGAIN.

Raiders ?

THERE YOU ARE!

In the 30-year period between 1963 and 1992, the Raiders's record 285-146-11 (.661) ranks as the best among all major sports teams.

But since then, they've been just slightly above average:

1993 10-6-0 1-1 in playoffs
1994 9-7-0 no playoffs
1995 8-8-0 no playoffs
1996 7-9-0 no playoffs
1997 4-12-0 no playoffs
1998 8 -8-0 no playoffs
1999 8- 8-0 no playoffs
2000 12-4-0 1-1 in playoffs
2001 10-6-0 1-1 in playoffs
2002 11-5-0 2-1 in playoffs
2003 4-12-0

overall: 91-85-0 (+6 games over .500 in 11 seasons)

5-4 in playoff games; highest achievement: ACF Champ, 2002

In the same time frame, Denver has been:

1993 9-7-0 0-1 in playoffs
1994 7-9-0 no playoffs
1995 8-8-0 no playoffs
1996 13-3-0 0-1 in playoffs
1997 12-4-0 4-0 in playoffs, won super bowl
1998 14-2-0 3-0 in playoffs, won super bowl
1999 6-10-0 no playoffs
2000 11-5-0 0-1 in playoffs
2001 8-8-0 no playoffs
2002 9-7-0 no playoffs
2003 12-4-0 0-1 in playoffs

Overall: 109 - 67 (+42 games over .500 in 11 seasons)

7-4 in playoffs; highest accomplishment: NFL Champions (twice)

I know DenFan38 usually has good takes when he talks about football, but 90% of the time he's just spouting off meaningless crap that isn't related to football. His only response to any negative take on the Donkeys' is "You're an idiot." And this childish remark comes from the fingers of one of the Mods of this board. Atleast Fujita Joan(Taco John), acts like a true Mod and keeps it about football. After all, this is a football board, not spelling and grammar class. But what should I expect, I'm deep in Donkey Nation here.

Thanks for keeping the Chargers from going 0 - 6 vs AFC West opponents. Even in losing to us you could not secure the top draft pick. The Raiders cannot stop LT2! Look forward to being flattened by him next year.

This is the team with the most knowledgable fans on the OM? Your team crippled itself. the Raiders made the Chargers superbowl look somewhat respectable by comparison. Your team might have been great before the mid nineties but your time is through for now. You're right that we dont give you any sympathy, you do not deserve it.

I suggest you shut your hole instead -- stuff a flapjack in your crack while you are at it with extra syrup.

Yes, we have been just ABOVE average the past two decades, BUT - just above average is your best - DECADE EVER! Don't trip dude, and just realize you lost this one. Move on, or just change the subject again. Thanks Old Dude, much appreciated.

Here is the difference, we know our history, and acknowledge our bad times, embrace them and try to move on to make improvements. You Chief fans are just in denial, tried to ride this season, and fell right on your faces. Don't get mad @ us that your team is destine to suck a$$ in the playoffs, if you can't handle it, switch teams. I was humbled when I went on to the Lions site and heard what a true fan is. They didn't complain, or talk smack - they couldn't, and didn't after they won, but they haven't won a playoff game either, kind of like the Chiefs - so why are you Chief fans running of the mouth?

You know just as well as any fan in the NFL - to make the Playoffs is SOMETHING - means you getting closer to your goal. Us @ 4-12 is just disgraceful. It's a horrible feeling bro - I wish my team was in the post season - even to lose (like yours), @ least you made it! Your still a winning team - you can't win them all bro, especially with the free agency market nowadays. SB's will come as long as you stay on track, and staying on track is winning games and getting to the post season. Getting that experience, getting the feel, being able to win in another teams house. Believe me, I would hate to see Denver in the post season next year. I think you understand now.

Please tell me everyone is joking around in talks of next year's season. How can a Donkey fan actually believe the Broncos will be any better than the Chiefs next year? First off, Priest Holmes will be even healthier and completely back to 100%. Secondly, Trent Green continues to master the offense and in turn, continues to improve. The Chiefs will have a better defense than last year, because you just cannot get any worse. Then ... all of our stars are locked up. Heck, you may be losing your Tight End, your best defensive player in Al Wilson, and heck, Jake Plummer can always meet another couch again. Not to mention the days of Rod Smith dominating the passing game are coming to an end. And fragile Clinton Portis could end up like Jamal Anderson, you never know. So naturally, you are all getting way ahead of yourselves. But then again, being a Donkey fan, a knowledgeable, intelligent person is a gift and very few. The only worry the Chiefs have is whether John Tait re-signs or not, and all signs are looking good. We could sign a shutdown cornerback in the off-season, as well as a D-lineman, or maybe Terrell Owens will jump on the bandwagon and drop Morton or Kennison to a 3rd receiver. The only advantage Donkey fans have is that Dante Hall being our secret weapon is no longer a secret anymore.

5) A. Green(Would be 2nd but turns 27 next month)

You know what, I give Tomlinson two more years and for all football purposes he'll be practically the same age as Holmes.

I think it's cruel and unusual punishment to put a guy with that much talent and force him to carry 52 other saps. He reminds me of TD, he's got twice the heart and talent than most RBs, but will probably burn out twice as fast.

In his NFL career Holmes has accumulated around 9,000 yards rushing. LT2 has about half that. But Holmes is 31 or something. LT2 is just hitting 26. You're telling me thats the same? LT2's best football is ahead of him... do you believe Holmes will continue to improve?

The Bolts NEED some OL help its true. Expect them to get help there this off season. Can you understand how woefully the Chargers OL performed last year? Our worst nightmare is to have LT2 get hurt like Holmes did; LT2 will have the line he needs next season. We cannot afford to waste his talent year after year.

A couple of years ago, it was a little easier to talk football here as a Chiefs fan. You still can if you are talking to the right people. But the opportunity come fewer and further between.

The Raider fans have become much tamer now that they have become the doormat of the AFC West. Because they haven't been the same threat as in years past, they are tolerated a little more.

Charger fans, as has been posted, dont make much of a showing at all. So it's hard to guage.

It's been my observation that the Moss signing has effectively wiped out two dismal seasons for Fadefan. Even though he has yet to play a down for their team, it appears that most of them feel he will singlehandedly add 9 or 10 wins to their season total. Nevermind that they still have Kerry Collins tossing the rock... and no defensive improvements to speak of... they will tell you Collins is the next Plunkett and that their defense will step up and get the job done. Some will even predict that LaMont Jordan will lead the division in rushing yards. Ha!

Yes you have to have players but each side of the ball affects the other. I think we did well on defense with Greg Robinson because of our high powered offense making it easier for the defense. But we also had players that may not have been the most talented on defense but they worked their butts off. I'm hoping that's what happens with our D this year.

Have to agree with this. A few years ago it was battling with the Raider fans. But I will say that when between the two when you find a knowledgable opposing fan that doesn't post a typical "the Broncos sucks" post it's the Raider fan that's more level headed. Spin it anyway you like Blue. Collins throws one of the better deep balls in the game. His problems start when he's forced to move in the pocket. With our offensive line and with a full training camp as the starter Collins should be much more effective. The point that you seem to leave out of your arguement is that Collins' numbers improved significantly in the last 5 or 6 games.

You can attribute this to Collins getting comfortable with a new offense. He also started to connect with Porter. The other thing that you seem to want to forget is that Moss is going to create a situation where collins will not see 8 in the box. Less pass rush = More time which in turn = Bailout getting burned deep by Moss or Porter!

Just because Collins has a good deep ball, it doesn't mean that he will throw 100% completions deep. Throwing a good deep ball means instead of throwing 30% completions you might throw 35% completions.

I dont see where that equates to 8 more wins for the season. Considering the fact that the defense has gotten worse, I'm not sure the Raiders can win 4 more games.

Davis has accomplished exactly what he set out to do. Sell you a ticket for a 4-12 franchise. Optimism is high in the off season. Davis is building on that by buying 1 big name and selling some of the better parts of the defense in order to do it.

I just dont see how that equates to a bunch of wins you didn't have last year. The only valid point that you made was that Collins was better at the end of the season than he was when he started. You didn't have to dump guys on D to achieve that.

In my opinion, the Raiders were geared more toward selling tickets by purchasing a big name star. When they should have upgraded the defense. The offense was already competetive.

Instead of really improving the team, Davis was focused on improving the ticket sales. It was likely the best move for the organization due to the fact they were going to have a tough time competeing in the AFC West.

Of course the other benefit of signing a marquee player is that it will get you a primetime game or 2 you wouldn't have otherwise had.

Randy Moss will do the Raiders at least as much harm, as he does them good. That's why Minny dumped him. The price was too steep for the return they were getting. Even though Moss is a considerable talent, he is a considerable cancer. I can hardly wait to see the Oakland Mosses. If not this season, then perhaps next. But it's coming, you can bet on it.

The difference is, that you stand a chance of beating the Broncos this year.

Look little cheefy weefy, I am sick of the CHEAP promises every year and you guys not delivering.

The Cheaps are the ULTIMATE choke job in the NFL and has been for a long time, I hate the DOnks, despise them but they have actually competed well most years, now for the Cheaps, had the best damn team in the NFL and get punked on their HOME TURF by a team that doesn't even play on grass.

So win a few playoff games and then come on back in here with your Tony Gonzales jersey on and poke yuor chest out.... But until then, you sit down and hush while the Men Folk are talking..... Savvy?

BTW, the '90's were interesting. We dominated the Raiders, the Raiders dominated the Broncos and the Broncos dominated the Chiefs. It was a vicious circle.

Didn't we sweep you ladies last year?

4-12 Raider fans talking smack? That's cute.

Please understand however, I'm not laughing with you, I am laughing at you.

God forgive me as I voted for a faider. Please don't send me to hell.

I'll say a thousand "faiders suck and chefs blow".
