1. This is the Bengals 2nd pre-season game, so if their execution is better don't be surprised.

2. Remember, we are running basic offense/defense. "Vanilla" stuff.

3. We haven't finished installing everything we will run during the season yet.

Anyone care to add....

It's the PRE-SEASON.

Cowboys didn't play starts too long and the Raiders didn't score until the 4th... but Raiders defense isn't anything to look down upon.

Nobody is apologizing... just things to remember. The only real "apologist" line was the 1st, the other two can be read in either direction... whether we do good OR bad, those 2 are still relevant.

Not sure if the "rest of us" can enjoy it unless we play horrible. LOL

You expecting it to be that bad huh... don't be such a negative Nancy.

I'll add one, no matter what happens tonight there will be some good and some bad and somebody on the OM will freak out about something.

If Orton throws for 200 yards and 3 TDs in the first three series it will be that Tebow was a wasted pick.

If Orton has a mediocre performance and Tebow shines, there will be peeps calling for Tebow.

And so on and so on.

I think people are reading it as bad.

To be honest, I think Orton is going to come out looking sharp and take us for at least 1 scoring TD drive.

Who knows, may be nerves gets to him, etc... I'm just saying, I won't be worried either way.

Personally, I'm not expecting a whole lot from Orton tonight. I just don't think he'll get the protection he needs to take advantage of our receiver's talents.

When Tebow comes in I think his mobility will equal the score a bit. We'll still struggle on the OL, but Tebow will make a play with his legs and slow down the rush, almost like a good screen play to give the opponents pass rush pause.

Speaking of Screens, I hope we throw a couple early. I know we aren't game planning, but if we really want to give the OL a chance here, we better do something to slow down any pass rush.

I want to see the individual match ups.

LT Batise vs Johnson/Rivers/DE
Jammal Williams vs OC/G
JD Walton / Beadles baptism
Robert Ayers pressure on QB
Perrish Cox return game

Tebow showing some athletism from the QB spot making a play or two when all things break down

Way too many guys out. Decker and Bey Bey a real disappointment not to be available for the first game

I have a feeling our running game will be brutal tonight so anything there will be a pleasant surprise

To me, it is the PBS. While we don't have all the pieces in place and key players missing at the line, I want to see how our running game differs from what we've been used to see with the Broncos for years.
Another thing is our receiving corps and especially the rookies.
Granted guys, this is pre-season, the first game of pre-season as we all know, so looking for flawless execution of the system by the players is not my focus here. I want to see some flashes of the new players. Who has potential and who doesn't.
Another player I'm eager to see in live game action is Parrish Cox on defense, Beadles, Walton on offense.
Also, I'd want to see the kind of pass-rush we will have in the absence of Doom. Who is most likely to emerge as the new pass-rusher.

Brady Quinn
Offensive Line
Defense
Tim Tebow

Things I don't think we'll get a good read on:

WR's - too many hurt
RB's - This is the worst stable we've had in years
Kyle Orton - No pressure situation
Playcalling - Game will be vanillia

CINCINNATI — Veteran wide receiver Brandon Stokley has a lot of NFL memorabilia, a collection that includes a special ball and pair of gloves that bring him fond memories of the Broncos' last game against the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.

In last year's season opener, Stokley caught a deflected pass and scored an 87-yard touchdown. He scored with 11 seconds left, lifting the Broncos to a 12-7 victory.

The deflected pass Stokley caught was intended for Brandon Marshall. The game marked the Denver debut of coach Josh McDaniels and quarterback Kyle Orton.

Stokley said he expects to hear about the play from Bengals fans while the Broncos are in Cincinnati.

"It will go down as one of my favorite plays of all time," Stokley said. "It was a right- place, right-time type of deal, but it definitely brings a smile to my face."

Stokley probably won't be a starter today in the Broncos' preseason opener — the likely starters at wide receiver are Jabar Gaffney, Eddie Royal and Brandon Lloyd — but he should be noticed. Stokley has been impressive during training camp.

"Even though it's the preseason, I'm trying to improve every day out here during practice and especially the games," said Stokley, who is in his 12th NFL season and fourth with the Broncos. "That's when you get your real time in offensively and defensively. You want to feel good about yourself heading into that first game."

--------------------

Also Tim Tebow ended his college career against the Cincy Bearcats and will begin his pro career against the Cincy Bengals.

A very few teams have preseason reflect how their regular season will go. Shanahan is a great example. When we played well in preseason with Shanny, we usually had a decent season. McDaniels, and coaches from the Parcells coaching tree, seem to have no carry-over whatsoever from preseason to the regular season. As was mentioned earlier, none of the problems this team had in preason were an issue at all in the regular season. It really affords no guage whatsoever. That said, I hope to see some of our young players win their individual battles and grow. Other than that, just stay healthy!

Can't wait to see - Tebow in a third down package. Quinn to see if he can step up his game from camp. Fargas, to see if he has anything left in the tank, Smith to see if he makes the team, the D-line, to see if they can get any pressure with 3 or 4. The O-line to see if Kyle Orton's ankles will be okay this season.

Other than that, just stay healthy!I agree in terms of the team overall...in that it doesn't give you a realistic snapshot of how they'll fair in the regular season. But, I do think you can get some perspective on certain things...such as, how does the offensive line play together, how do the receivers look in terms of running their routes, do any of the RB's display explosiveness...individually does anyone stand out. Kind of like watching a practice.

I expect Orton to look efficient and have a live arm in the preseason...will that carry into the season...how about the 2nd half of the seaon..well, stuff like that isn't going to come out in the preseason...I agree with you there.

Things I'll be watching:

1. Tebow- This is an obvious one. It will be great to finally see him in a Bronco's uniform, but also to see if he tries to take off and run or just throws the ball away when he is supposed to. I'm expecting one or two great plays from him and probably some stupid ones as well.

2. Offensive line- Even with all of the injuries, it will be important to see what we look like right now.

3. Jamal Williams and Justin Bannab- Can't wait to see what kind of impact they have on the D

4. Robert Ayers- See if he can get any pressure going tonight

5. Return Game- Special teams as a whole, but I can't wait to see Cox get a chance to return a few and see what he's got at this level.

6. the Entire Secondary- This should be our most exciting competition as there is definitely talent at each level

Exactly. Also if Ayers went off for 4 sacks and was unblockable you know people would all the sudden care a bunch !!!!!

It doesn't matter if you win. But the players you expect to count on during season should look like good football players. Fans think preseason doesn't matter but I can tell a lot from it. You just have to know what to look for.

Im looking to see if the Broncos seem hard to block at NT. If we have penetration there we can have a decent defense I think.

Also I'd like to see how Bailey is moving around. Alphonso Smith I would like to see be more aggressive this yr. I'm looking to see him act like he is more confortable on the field. I think those things you can spot in preseason.

Does it matter if you lose, not really. But playing well is always a good sign IMO.

I'm very curious how the free safety plays opposite Dawk. Or whatever I know we sort of have safety's do both spots. But the spot opposite Dawk, and the spot Smith in opposite Bailey. Those spots key to secondary. If they can step up and help the vets we could be real good there.

I sorta agree...i say let's extend regular season to 18 games, with 2 pre-season games.

A team's schedule would be two games each vs. division rivals (6)
One game vs all the rest of the conference they're in (12)
No games against opposing conference teams until SB (recalling the old debate of who had the tougher conference/league)

This makes tie-breakers easier as every team in each conference would have played each other (head to head, conference W-L, etc.)

Of course you could also rotate one division in your conference for one outside it to make everyone else happy.

Here we are in rainy Cincinnati, awaiting the first preseason game of the Broncos’ 2010 campaign.
It’s a bit of déjà vu, as this vantage point in the press box is exactly where we were watching Brandon Stokley’s Immaculate Deflection a little less than a year ago.
Speaking of Stokley, he’s already on the field warming up along with a handful of Broncos including Tim Tebow, Eddie Royal and D’Anthony Batiste.
The field is emptying out as the players stay out of the heavy rain for a few more minutes.

The Broncos are wearing their home blue jerseys, just like they did in the season opener last year in Cincinnati. The home team chooses which jerseys to wear, so apparently the Bengals enjoy wearing white.
5:50 p.m. EDT: Matt Prater, Britton Colquitt and Lonie Paxton are on the field working on field goals. Nathan Overbay is shadowing Paxton, apparently working as a backup long snapper. The three quarterbacks were next on the field, followed by returners — Syd’Quan Thompson, Cassius Vaughn, Alphonso Smith, Eddie Royal and Perrish Cox. A handful of young pass-catchers — Patrick Carter, Matthew Willis and Marquez Branson — are now catching passes from Tebow.
Royal just got a greeting from Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, who trotted over to the third-year receiver.
6:05 p.m. EDT: The rain has passed and more position groups have made their way onto the field at Paul Brown Stadium. Receivers, running backs, tight ends and defensive backs are now running through drills.
6:12 p.m. EDT: The team just met for a huddle near the tunnel, and now the squad is running through warmups between the end zone and 25-yard line.

I was thinking about this too. Should afford some of our 2nd string guys a good opportunity to show their stuff vs the Bengals 1s. I am thinking we could see Cox on Ocho/TO as well as Alphonso on Ocho/TO. Should give us a pretty good idea of how both can play against top talent.

6:34 p.m. EDT: Both teams have left the field, and President and CEO Pat Bowlen is making his way back through the tunnel as well. With less than 30 minutes to go until kickoff, pregame ceremonies should be getting underway soon.

How can you hate McD??? Dude has 90% of what I love in a coach. He has some of the same qualities as a guy like Pete Carrol but probably a bette overall understanding of the game. PC is great on defense and setting the tone. McD has all three phases of the game and leads with the same high energy and emotion. Love that guy!

Sound like a good Special Teams Coach to me

I'm in too deep been a fan for 15 Years and this is the worst Coach Ive seen run the team.

Well yeah, if you've only been a fan for 15 years you only know Shanny. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither can the Broncos be rebuilt. But in two short years McD has gave our roster an extreme makeover and has really started to put players in place to run his system. From this point forward we will really be able to start focusing on stud players to fill individual pieces rather than focusing on remaking entire units. For example, it would have been great for us to go out and get a guy like Carlos Dansby but we couldn't afford to do that AND remake the DL with guys like Green, Bannan, and Williams. Moving forward, we'll be able to add those uber-talented players in certain spots to bridge the overall talent gap we still have right now.
