Another practice, more fallen Broncos.

The latest to go down are linebacker Robert Ayers and tight end Marquez Branson.
Ayers, the second-year outside linebacker, left the practice field this morning with an apparent injury to his left elbow/arm. Ayers was essentially credited with two sacks during the team's scrimmage Saturday night, although defensive players were not allowed to pop the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
Branson, the heir apparent to the departed Tony Scheffler, also was injured during this morning's team drills at Dove Valley. He was taken off the field in a cart. He injured his right leg and had to be helped off the cart, unable to put any weight on his leg. It appeared to be a serious

injury.

Details of the injuries should be available later today.
Here are more updates from today's morning practice:

A fresh running back, sporting high white socks and a clean white No. 42 uniform, trotted onto the field at Dove Valley. That would be recently acquired free agent Justin Fargas, welcome sight for a team plagued by injuries to running backs Knowshon Moreno (hamstring), Correll Buckhalter (back) and LenDale White (leg).
Fargas will compete for time against Lance Ball, Bruce Hall and Toney Baker — players who have little NFL experience. Fargas, on the other hand, rushed for 1,009 yards in 2007 and 853 yards in 2008 as a member of the Oakland Raiders. Last season he was limited to 491 rushing yards on 129 carries.

Chris Kuper (ankle), Eric Decker (ankle), Demaryius Thomas (foot), Elvis Dumervil (pectoral muscle) and Jarvis Moss (hand) are still out of practice due to injuries.

Linebacker D.J. Williams is at practice, but will continue to wear his orange "no-contact jersey."

Defensive backs Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey and wide receiver Brandon Stokley received the morning practice off.

We're all frustrated. Branson isn't a major piece of the puzzle, and it sounds like Ayers is going to be fine, though I'll wait to see if he practices in the PM session.

Just one of those things. This isn't nearly as frustrating as using 8 running backs two years ago. Not nearly.

Well, yeah, at this point every single injury is important because we're already severely depleated.

And Ayers is replacing Doom, so yeah, kind of important.

Glad to hear he's ok, I'm going to edit the title.

That season was absolutely brutal. I feared for our runningback's lives each time a new one went out onto the field and sure enough they just kept going down.

Injuries have become the "story" for camp reporters now. That means every wince, limp, and trainer check is going to get reported as "OMG more injuries!"

I'll take the injury obsession over last year's "the locker room is divided" stories that were the super-duper fun "angle" last year:

LATE-BREAKING CAMP UPDATE: Tony Scheffler frowned briefly at Kyle Orton during 7 on 7 work this afternoon following a botched timing route between the 2 players that resulted in an incomplete pass. This damning evidence provides further proof of a growing locker room divide in Denver. Furthermore, it is rumored that Peyton Hillis sighed loudly while sitting at his locker following practice, although we are still working to determine whether he simply passed gas. We will keep an eye on these situations as they continue to develop.

At some point, the tidal wave of injuries hitting Denver needs to taper, right?
Denver Broncos outside linebacker Robert Ayers left the practice field Wednesday with an apparent left elbow/arm injury but appears to be okay, while wide receiver Jabar Gaffney also left practice with an unspecified injury.
“I’m OK,” Ayers told the Denver Post (http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2010/08/11/ayers-is-fine/4401/). “I just got checked out. I’m fine.”
Tight end Marquez Branson might not be so lucky. Earlier in practice, Branson was carted off the field with a right leg/ankle injury. Branson’s injury appeared serious.
