On The Road To Camp: Broncos
Chris Mortensen stops at Broncos' camp to see how Tim Tebow is adjusting to the NFL

Excerpt:

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Champ Bailey has been around the Denver Broncos long enough to see stunning changes. Mike Shanahan, fired. Jay Cutler, traded. Brandon Marshall, traded.

Of those three events in the past two years, Bailey cites Shanahan's firing as the most shocking to him "because he had been here 14 years and won two Super Bowls. The other two guys [Cutler and Marshall] really hadn't done anything here."

It could be said that second-year coach Josh McDaniels hasn't done anything either, except go .500 in his first season, make headlines by kicking Cutler and Marshall out of town and stun some by drafting Tim Tebow in the first round.

It might surprise you that despite Denver blowing a 6-0 start in 2009 and suffering a slew of injuries in camp, the 34-year-old McDaniels has the two strongest believers a coach could want in the 32-year-old Bailey and 36-year-old safety Brian Dawkins.

"If we don't win with this guy I mean, he's doing everything possible to get us ready," Bailey said. "I give this coach credit. I've learned so much from this guy and I'm in my 13th year. We know we are going to be a prepared football team the way he coaches us to be smart, tough, physical, and [McDaniels] knows everything about different game situations."

Dawkins loves that McDaniels has not allowed the distractions of trades and injuries to become an excuse in 2010. The Broncos have suffered a rash of injuries, including losing standout defensive end Elvis Dumervil (17 sacks in 2009) to a torn pectoral muscle.

"Other people talk about this rebuilding stuff, but Coach is talking about winning right now, and he is very, very passionate about winning right now," Dawkins said. "He is consistent with his message. It's team first, period. He is consistent with his preparation and what he expects of us. What you do in the meeting rooms, what you do in practice, what you do on and off the field will define what you're going to mean to this football team."

Apparently, there's only one storyline in Denver.

Champ Bailey on Revis: I paid attention to this guy a lot last yr; he's a tremendous corner. his best years are yet to come. he's young.

More Bailey:: And I think if the Jets really want to do anything , they better get him into camp; that boy is a big part of their defense.

RT @vernon78 (http://api.twitter.com/vernon78): @mortreport (http://api.twitter.com/mortreport) does Quinn dress as emergency qb ton gamedays, so Tebow can be used all game? >> That's my guess but could vary

There is ZERO question that Kyle Orton is the starter. Quinn looks like solid backup. Tebow a speciality guy for this year.

Tebow is earnng respect right way - staying humble, working hard. Wins most of post-practice gassers, though Royal got him on last 1 today./

@RonGreco (http://api.twitter.com/RonGreco) I came away with so much material on Broncos - lot I didn't know - looking to using it in different spots going forward

Only player Broncos don't expect for season opener is Dumervil and they may hold spot open for him. Doing research on his injury/surgery.

@JoeNYPost (http://api.twitter.com/JoeNYPost) McDaniels doesn't hate on Royal; excited about him....vets didn't thnk the guys who r gone were buying in or a good fit now.

Most of his tweets from today regarding us.

clearly Josh cant get along with his players
I mean why listen to the opinions of guys like Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins when you got the opinions of legends like Jay Cutler to go on

I was about to quote that same segment. Bailey is a good soldier so he'll always tow the company line, but this part seems to be pretty heart-felt.

I'd say all the right things too for 14.5 million at 32.

With Clady and doom out, and our continuing RB injuries, along with the dismantling of most of the 06 class,he's our bdst player, but only affects 1 side of the field.

And as much as I'm impressed with Friar Tuck's 'do, I'm underwhelmed at the drafting the past 2 years.

ast years old backup crew has ben replaced by a bigger backup crew and our OLB spots are beyond suspect.

Worse is the lack of playmakers on offens and youth on the OL, Polumbus looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane, and if Harris has to move over to LT, there really isn't a solid running lane on this team.

If some injured players come back and play, specifically Clady, (I think he may go on IR), and our 2 fragile WRs somehow master the job we could go 9-7 with the easy schedule.

I think it's more realistic to expect 7-9 because there are literally NO playmakers on the team, and OLB is a complete target.

Trading up for Tebow, Quinn and Quinn losing picks and Hillis off the team also hurt.

Tebow is going to be tied to McDaniels mor than any other player.

So in 2 more years, expect this from Bowlen, (or one of his SS)

2-8 with Clady, Doom, Marshall gone, and an overdrafted Moreno injured this year?

Tell me, who is going to make the plays?

Stand in your own piss, you earned it.

Vegas said 7.5 wins before Doom, Clady, Moreno, Bucky, White and the Bobsie twins went out.

I'll keep it clean.

All you ******s faggy sarcasm aside, just win already and the josh hate goes away. I'm back on board because I humiliated a guy with Tebow in madden today. 16-19. 400 yard . 5 tds. 4 rushes 50 yards, 1 td. 63-0.

Also, the brian dawkins/ champ bailey interview on the mort bus was ****ing pimp.

So a 35 year old safety dominates and a 3rd sting QB saves the day on Madden.

How Amusing.

did he say that or did he just say they were all closing the gap on the Chargers?
I seem to think he said the latter

anywho its funny how people who actually watch us practice seem to be a bit more optimistic than the media people basing their predictions off of how we finished last year

He actually said both and I really like how the players are all saying the right things and liking the new coaching staff now if they could all stay on the field instead of the training room

Agreed! I think its easy to poke and predict from behind a desk but when people go out and watch their tune is much different. I think the Chargers are losing some space between the other three and it will be a closer race than people think.
