The Barrett situation is a weird deal: Broncos had to put Barrett on waivers before formally putting him on IR. Normally those guys go thru

Josh Barrett claimed by Patriots. When a player goes on I.R. in camp, he often goes on "waived/injured," which means another team
can claim him, just like a typical waived player. Rarely does another team claim a waived/injured player; this is the exception.

goddamn Belichick. I wonder if this was payback for sniping Tebow from the Pats in the draft

Makes me wonder if Josh and Belichick orchestrated this on the down low with a favor to come in return at a later time?

This is what can happen when you try to hide a dude that isn't injured.

Despite being a board favorite, wasn't he likely to be cut anyway?

That weird, does that mean he has to be on their active roster?

Nope, he was a gunner on the special teams, and very effective at that.

I don't think its a matter of "meeting his master" at all.

This is typically one of those gentleman's agreements where you don't snipe other team's IR guys. Hopefully we snipe him right back after the Pats see he really is hurt and try to IR him themselves. I can't imagine they'd try to carry him throughout the season.

Can't go on PUP if you have participated in TC practices.

Think Bruton and Joe Mays .. he was expendable.

No he was not expandable.

The team is disintegrating before our eyes.

Can't, he participated in TC.

Waivers-IR is only during the preseason, once the cut to 53 has happened it is direct to IR. This is a measure to stop teams from stashing prospects on IR before the cut to 53. The Patriots will now have to keep him on the roster until after the cut to 53, then IR him and then sign a player to fill his roster spot, if not they have to waiver him and we could claim him back.

If he doesn't play OLB or RB he isn't really needed at present.

That's really unfortunate. This guy has the size/speed ration every team would drool over in a safety, but once again it's not always about talent it's about staying healthy and putting it together. It would not surprise me if Barrett is starting in NE in a year or so.

That is one of the safest places in the world to be, really the CIA should just start giving contracts to the mob, it would be a lot cheaper and more efficient.

Is this like baseball, where you can pull a guy back off waivers if he gets claimed?

Unless it was a season-ending move.

Thomas Clayton-RB- Patriots Aug. 6 - 8:56 pm et

Patriots waived RB Thomas Clayton.
Clayton usually looks decent in practice, but has never earned playing time in real games. He was out-shined by BenJarvus Green-Ellis in New England.

I wonder if we dont end up signing this guy!

?

IR is always a season ending move.

Unless we carried Barrett through to roster cut downs he was going to go through waivers. Unfortunately with how we've been hit by injuries this year we can't really afford to do that. We need bodies in camp.

This is typically one of those things every team just lets go, focusing on their own guys. Bellichick apparently thinks Barrett is such a special talent its worth blocking a roster spot for the next month, then putting him on IR, then hoping he produces in 2011 (when there might not be football).

That or he's pissed that McDaniels snaked Tebow from him and he's getting a bit of petty revenge.

Well, you can waive a guy through and re-sign him. After four games, or something. Or maybe not.

Now that he's gone, I'll admit I never understood the kid. That NFL scout's puzzled quote about Taylor Mays seems to fit, paraphrasing: 'He's got all that size, all that speed, but then he gets on the field and you wonder wtf happened?' Always seemed to fit Josh, too ... LB size and CB speed, but still I'd take Bruton and McBath any day.

I couldn't figure him out, up close at camp last year. The DBs came to the rope line, Khan and I stood next to him a couple minutes ... he's just uncomfortable, not just with fans, but with the game I think.

If you are not a vested vet (4 years of NFL service ) you must go through waivers first. A quick google search says about 10 guys have gone through this process already just in the first week of camp.

The young TE from KC Cotten has more talent than Barrett yet I don't see a team jumping in to sign him.

I'm betting this is more a petty thing between master and student

yep it was no doubt . they must be needing a safety . nothing wrong with it . we been working with them all last year .

You gotta understand the mane....QB's that win games ugly are blasted. Those that throw nice passes and lose are glorified. Hell, 4th string RB's not playing creates 100 page threads, and now players who probably were gonna get cut anyways getting picked up causes ulcers in alot of these clowns on here.
