Oh c'mon. While we're speculating, it could be anything bone of the ribs, arm, shoulder, chest, or collarbone. Or it could be muscle tears to the same areas.

It could be that he hurt himself lifting that big bag of cash he just made...

No were not even close to being the most injured riddled team in the NFL.

Last season we were very very fortunate on the injury front. Besides Ryan Harris, i dont think we lost any starters long term.

Anyway Dumervil has 6 weeks to heal up for Jaxonville. Lets hope its not to serious. I hope its not a break. If its a seperated shoulder, he will most likely be able to play week 1. I just hope he doesnt need surgery.

Kinda getting worried about these injuries piling up. Doom with his pec now, DJ has been out a few days with some lingering injury, Jamal isn't yet ready to practice (altho Josh said he's real close) and Clady (Josh did have some positive things today to say about him, tho).

Even following surgery, full use of the injured chest muscle may be limited and regaining full strength may take months or even years to achieve. In some cases, rehabilitation of the injured area is a painful and lengthy process that may last several months.

he may never be the same player again....

No, it won't. You can't adopt the stance that you aren't going to pay a big contract to a given player out of fear of injury. By this I mean as a general strategy, not an individualized negotiation, certainly if you are dealing with someone with a significant injury history it would be a legitimate factor in formulating an offer, but you can't always approach every player in this way because you'd never be able to re-sign anyone. The market doesn't operate that way.

wolf754life
08-04-2010, 11:11 PM
the severity of the tear, and to see if surgery is needed. According to reports he can barely lift his arm, and has literally no strength, he is said to be completely devastated.

again, nothing is official yet, but they should know tommorow, worst case he is out 4 to 6 months minimum.

Bertrand Berry (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3106) has played for three different NFL teams in his 8 years of NFL experience. Last week he suffered a torn pectoral muscle, which will end his season. It's a disappointing end for Bertrand who had been having a great season so far.
A torn pectoral muscle isn't the easiest injury in the world to deal with. The interesting thing is that it sometimes leads to an end of a career, and not just a season.
What is the pectoral muscle? The pectoral muscle is located in your chest and helps your arms and shoulders move and lift. It's a major muscle in your chest and covers the clavicle.
What is a torn pectoral muscle? When you tear your pectoral muscle the fibers of the muscle rupture. This is extremely painful, and they are varying degrees from strain to a full tear. Bertrand has a midrange torn pectoral muscle.
What are the symptoms of a torn pectoral muscle?

Pain, very severe pain in the chest area
Swelling
Bruising
Loss of a vertical lifting power
Loss of horizontal mobility

How do you tear your pectoral muscle? A majority of the injuries occur due to over work when lifting weights or other force based activities such as chopping wood. Bertrand's injury occurred when he attempted to tackle someone. The force of the player was too much for his pectoral muscle to absorb.
How do you treat a torn pectoral muscle? Depending on the severity of the tear it may require surgery. If it doesn't require surgery rest and treatment with ice and heat will help. Immobilizing and limiting the mobility of movement is key. When surgery is called for the surgeon will reconnect the muscle, but in most cases the muscle will never be as strong or as flexible prior to the injury. Rehabilitation with this injury is long and painful.

It's the Hillis curse. It started w/ Clady because he is the key to Hillis's side of the ball. Then it moved on to Hillis's position, taking out the top 2 on the depth chart. Satisfied that significant damage has been done to the offense, now it moves to the defensive side, taking out our highest paid defender.

Quick! Somebody get Champ one of these:

Our likelihood of just getting to .500 would drop significantly as we have no other pass rush out there. I think they should cut and then murder whoever hurt him, also. Schobel was released because the Bills switched to a 3-4 defense, he didn't fit the DE position in it, and he didn't want to learn the move to OLB.

Word on the radio down here is that if he decides to play again, it will be with the Texans, since he only lives about 70 miles from here.

It could be a torn pec. The pectoral muscle attaches to the upper arm below the shoulder and that's usually where the tear occurs. If it rips off the bone including the tendon, major surgery is required and it takes years to get your full strength back - if ever. Most people never get back to where they need to be. I hope it was just a separation, but the injuries would look very similar if it was a torn pec.

It COULD be, but I dislocated my shoulder in high school playing football and I walked off the field in the same manner. It's one of the most painful injuries you get in a sport. I needed my shoulder scoped and some intense PT.

When your arm is extended above your head, your shoulder is in a vulnerable position. It's crazy how it can just pop out. Let's hope its not serious and Doom can get back onto the field in short order.

I've noticed ever since this team won back to back championships, every year since we have been cursed with injuries, never at full strength, always losing big name players for the year, and the amount of player injuries on this team is mind boggling. This is really a disappointing that during the first week of camp, we start our yearly injury bug so fast. Two super bowl wins and forever cursed after that.

Don't people usually blow their pec doing some serious lifting? It seems like it would be really awkward to do it playing linebacker.

I share that sense of frustration, but honestly (and I have no stats to back this up) I doubt we have had it any worse injury wise than other teams. Yeah, the RB curse was crazy a couple years back, but otherwise I bet if you followed any other team closely you'd see that they almost all lose several key players for long stretches each season. Football lends itself to lots of injuries, and it sucks when they happen to star players.

Could be a strain or a partial tear, I suppose. Either way, if Lombardi is correct, it's great news and perhaps another bullet dodged.

From the interwebz:

"A strained pectoral muscle is commonly referred to as a pulled chest muscle. This is caused by long-term overuse or by a traumatic event, such as, a football player taking a hard blow to the upper body. Symptoms of a pulled chest include severe pain in the chest area, swelling or bruising that may extend into the shoulder and upper arm, and a loss in muscular strength."

More physical eh? That's working out real well so far.

If you are going to make the team play and practice more physically in training camp, perhaps they should have stressed off-season conditioning a lot more than they did. Conditioning is often the reason given for a team having few or a ton of injuries during camp. Sure, there will be some freak accidents and bad luck, but if you are going to stress more physical play, perhaps coaches.. you should make certain the team is READY FOR THAT? Maybe? ugh.

Step back from the ledge a bit people. I highly doubt these injuries have anything to do with the intensity of practice.

Seriously, the big three injuries are Moreno, Clady, and Dumervil. Moreno popped his hamstring all alone, no one was anywhere near him, Clady was playing basketball. Maybe, you could argue Dumervil...maybe.

Sources: Elvis Dumervil out indefinitely

By Adam Schefter
ESPN
Archive

Denver Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Wednesday's practice that will sideline him indefinitely, according to league sources.

Dumervil is expected to miss about four months, which means he might be able to return late this season.

Dumervil is going for another opinion to get a more specific idea of how much time he would miss so the Broncos can figure out how to best handle the situation.

With Dumervil out, Denver will need to get production out of two former No. 1 picks, Jarvis Moss and Robert Ayers.

Dumervil, who had an NFL high and team-record 17 sacks last season, signed a five-year, $58.332 million extension last month.

Adam Schefter is ESPN's NFL Insider. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Broncos' Dumervil could miss season with chest injury
By Jeff Legwold
The Denver Post

Posted: 08/05/2010 10:05:52 AM MDTUpdated: 08/05/2010 10:54:15 AM MDT

The NFL's reigning sack king will not be chasing quarterbacks any time soon, possibly not until next season.

Elvis Dumervil, who left Wednesday night's practice with what appeared to be an injury to his right arm or shoulder area, was examined by the team's medical staff for a torn chest muscle, a source familiar with the exam said this morning.

Dumervil has suffered a torn pectoral muscle. The pectoral muscle is a thick, fan-shaped muscle in the chest and often requires surgery to repair. Dumervil likely will have surgery and the earliest he might return would be November, but he could miss the entire season.

Dumervil was taking part in a one-on-one pass rush drill in an evening practice Wednesday when he extended his right arm to create separation. He quickly pulled his arm down after making contact. A somber looking Dumervil was then examined by trainers and sent into the locker room.

Recovery time for a torn pectoral muscle usually is four to five months. The Broncos would have to decide, after consulting with their doctors, whether or not to put Dumervil on injured reserve. If so, he would miss the season.

The injury is to what is usually Dumervil's outside arm in the pass rush since he lines up on the defensive right. It is the arm most rushers use in their first counter-attack to swipe an offensive tackle's hands away as they sprint to the tackle's outside shoulder.

If the Broncos try to keep him on the 53-man roster until he recovers that would mean they would be carrying him at the expense of another player. That's an unlikely scenario.

Dumervil led the league in sacks last season with 17 and recently signed a five-year, $58.333 million extension to remain with the Broncos. The deal includes $43.1 million guaranteed against injury.

Jarvis Moss, who has only 3.5 sacks in his career since being a Broncos' first-round pick in 2007, worked in Dumervil's right outside linebacker spot Wednesday night.

If we lose Dumervil for the season, I may kill myself. Not really, but it would be a devastating blow. Our likelihood of just getting to .500 would drop significantly as we have no other pass rush out there. I think they should cut and then murder whoever hurt him, also. If some backup lineman did this, they deserve to be thrown into a meat grinder.

According to a facebook update from 87.7 The Ticket, it was Tyler Polumbus he was going against. Meat grinder for him, but only after Clady is back.
