LenDale White lands in Denver

The Seahawks unceremoniously cut running back LenDale White during offseason workouts. To make matter worse, White ended up on the wrong end of a four-game suspension.

We assumed that White would serve his time and eventually be signed by the Bengals.

But necessity intervened in Denver, where running backs like Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter have dropped like flies.

Per a league source, White has signed a two-year deal to join the Broncos.

White entered the league in 2006 as a second-round pick of the Titans. But he wore out his welcome in Tennessee, and with Chris Johnson emerging as a star they simply didn't need him.

But then his college coach, Pete Carroll, decided he didn't want White, and he has been available for the past couple of months.

White will be able to practice with the Broncos and participate in the preseason. He'll then leave for the first four weeks of the season.

This is all kinda bizarre. Smith took the No. 1 RB reps as recently as yesterday. White is suspended for 4 games.

Ive been a White fan due to his love of SC but would it be better to find someone who can actually start or play the first four games while we are possibly nursing these other injuries to Moreno and Bucky? If Carroll has been shopping him for a whole two months, it shows there wasnt much interest to grab him for anyone's training camp.

We could do better. I wouldn't be opposed to leveraging our 3 headed quarterback monster to get a running who could contribute. How about the Vikings????? Stay stay retired Butt Fart.

quit being so negative guys, this is perfect, by the fourth game when our 6th string running back gets hurt, well have the ultimate secret backup comeing back, and he should be not hurt cuz he hasnt been playing, the 4 game suspension is just our way of making sure we have at least onehealthy running back for week 5

So much for team guys

Are people going to do this every time the Broncos sign somebody who's had some sort of character issues in the past? It happened when we drafted Cox too; are there people here so eager to critcize McDaniels that they'll jump all over a signing of what will be, at best, a third-string running back?

Honestly, this signing isn't that big of a deal. LenDale is another body to beat up during the preseason while Moreno and Buck are out. If he shows some of his old short-yardage ability, we'll keep him around. If not, we cut him with little to no loss.

If White has actually been humbled due to being cut twice and suspended, and if he's actually hungry for another chance, this could certainly be an upgrade. White has talent, and he fills the whole of short-yardage bruiser that this team's RB corps looks to be lacking.

So it is okay to sign a POS like him because he probably won't make it out of camp? so it is not cheating if you know it is a one night stand?

Why would you compromise yourself? Mcdaniels wants high character players, he has said as much and he has gone to great lengths to acquire high character guys, even picking Thomas over Dez Bryant, but because he is probably not going to make it out of camp it is fine to puck up this douchenozzle?

I think the high character principle is good, I fully support it, I just wish it would be 100% consistent.

You guys come across as desperate for a RB. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for ol' what's his name.

I may be reading something into it thats not there. But I get this vibe that any warm body could try out for RB w/the Broncos. In the end it could work for you. I remember RBBC in KC all those years. We had a top 2 or 3 rushing team every season. But a mediocre offense over all.

My guess is that you will see a lot more runs than passing. A lot of screens and play action. These will be the staples of the Bronco offense IMO.

Good luck with it.

He comes with a 4 game suspension, his own college coach who traded for him threw him out and he has never seen an all you can eat buffet that he didn't take as a personal challenge to clean out. What a miraculously good signing, he fits the prototype perfectly, clear he is a doctor of philosophy waiting to happen and a standup guy.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Pretty low odds he sticks with the team. Great physical ability. But he's probably either stupid or low effort or both to have failed so badly so far, given his physical gifts. Stupid or low effort guys are usually still stupid or low effort five years later.

If effort is the issue, a few folks do change. He could be a real catch in that case.

What this really says is that the RB situation on the Broncos is pretty bad with the recent injuries and with Smith apparently bombing out.

This move baffles me. Lendale White is exactly the kind of player that I'd use to describe as "not a McD kind of guy."

This move makes me worry a little more about our RB situation than I was yesterday.

I guess they must have worked the guy out. Who knows, could be a bargain pick-up if it pans out.

I would say unquestionably yes.

Why sign a guy with a 4 game suspension to a 2 year deal if you expect to cut him by the start of the season?

To me this says that either Moreno & Buckhalter are doing well and should be ready for opening day, we're about to sign another back in addition to Lendale, or both.

This is in fact a classic McDaniels signing. Very low risk guy with minor character infractions (didn't keep in shape his first few years, once that was generally corrected he failed a few drug tests for weed). If he doesn't behave we cut him with no legitimate loss. If he does though and puts it together he could be the power back compliment we've been needing since Mike Anderson retired.

Very similar move to Perish Cox in fact. Cox was brought into a unit with a bunch of veteran leadership to set the standard. Kind of makes me think Westbrook might be getting a longer look now as a 3rd RB.

I have always had good things to say about his work in free agency. I don't even care that White has character issues. I just don't get how you guys can buy what McD is trying to sell when he can't even keep his own message straight. Can we not see that he was making up some BS to validate giving away players he had problems with? The Pats aren't all about character. We haven't been all about character. That ended as soon as he gave away some of our best players.

Frankly, I don't see white's "character flaws" being that great. I'll explain.

Is there a difference between smoking pot and beating your girlfriend?

Is there a difference between smoking pot and selling crack?

I'm sure you'll blanket with more of your "It's the same thing!" brilliance, but it is not, and never has been, the same offense. Period.

I think McD feels that bringing this kid home to Denver, where his family is and where his support system is, is a way to turn him around, get him back on the positive track. And if it DOESN'T work, to cut him really influences our cap in a very minor way.

It's a calculated, low risk.

I'm not sure how you don't see that.

I wasn't aware that McD is OK with certain bad character stuff and not others. What exactly did Cutler do that was equal to selling crack or beating women? What did Sheffler do? Oh, right, it is about overall character and being team first. A lazy guy that is out the first four games is exactly what he was saying he wanted! Parish Cox is not high character either. It is pretty funny that people are actually spinning that low character guys are now good for the team....

You missed everything, including one of the primary reasons McD probably brought LenDale to Denver. Because it's his HOME, where his support system is, where he has the best chance of success. And because the contract is tiny, so if he doesn't work out, we're none the worse for wear.

You really aren't very bright.

I wouldn't read too much into a depth (3rd/4th string) RB being a character concern...he won't be viewed as a leader (or likely even anyone of signficance) in the locker room.

I'm OK with this...decent short-yardage banger at a low price.

Remember that game a few years ago where Bettis rushed for < 5 yards but scored 3 TDs (or something crazy like this)? Put Tebow in the Wild Horse in the red zone w/ Lendale back there and we've got a nice short package w/ lots of options.
