Champ Bailey was were interviewed by Les Shapiro and "jo jo" in this afternoon on the new sports station in town (87.7 fm). Here's a summary:

champ bailey:

What do you think about losing brandon marshall?

We are losing a special player. No one on our roster
can do what he's done But we have a few guys i know can produce for us

How do you feel playing for a new defensive coordinator?

This is my 10th coordinator in 12 years.
Regardless of its an in house hire or totally new the system always changes.
Every coach wants to put his own stamp on things.
I feel good about what Wink is going to do for us.

How about the new signings in the dline?

Everything starts up front If we don't have
a good game, it's because of the guys up front
it's important to have good quality guys to
push the pocket. we have good backups as well

Will the defense have to carry this team with all the youth on offense?

No, though i do approach every season like defense has to carry team.
I know with Kyle Orton and the weapons we do have we can do
great things on offense

In regards to Dez Bryant, what would you think if a rookie refused to carry your pads?

I'd be pissed. If there's a guy that cocky you
are pissed but at the same time it makes you
watch that guy. If this guy is that cocky he
better produce. It's a little disrespectful but
you get over it. As a rookie you've got to respect the vets.

When I was a rookie I had to carry helmets, pads, bringing breakfast.
Vets wanted to mess with you. I respected the
vets so I did it. I expect our rookies to do it. It's part
of the game.

Do you set goals?

I used to have alot of personal goals, i focus more
on team goals now. I've achieved alot in my career but
what have I done as a team? Nothing (no championships) My whole
focus is what can the team do

cornerbacks can play a long time - how much longer for you?

I do have to work harder to play 16 games now. Until that
day that I feel I can't play cornerback for 16 games I'll be
there. Cornerback is the most competitive position on the
field. I'm not ready to move to safety. Playing 18 games
might cut my career short.

I love champ. But you've got to wonder how much longer he'll be around here. He'll want big money, we won't want to pay him. He wants a championship before he retires... do you think he sees us as legitimate contenders this year or next?

Gotta say, I'm not confident we can hang onto him until retirement.

If this team can dick around with multi million dollar signing bonuses to 24 carat turds like IHOP, Travis Henry etc then they better do right by one of the best CBs to ever wear orange and blue.

Let the man retire a Bronco.

Patriots.

They didn't value Asante Samuel in his prime enough to give him a respectable offer. No way they back up the Brinks truck for Champ given all the FA acquisitions and draft picks they've invested in the position the last two years, the fact that he'll be transitioning to safety shortly, and the likelihood of a lockout.

The Pats do not value CB like other teams. They believe with their pressure formations, that they can hid CB's problems.....

You've got to love Champ. I hope we sign him to a nice 3yr deal. He's a stud now and he'll be a stud at Safety as well.

How big was Rod Woodson when he played corner? Did he gain weight when he transitioned to safety? That guy was great at both and Champ has a very similar mindset as a CB. I think he could make a similar transition with the same kind of success.

So did we determine who Jojo is?

i doubt any team signs him to the money he wants. Hopefully he just sticks around.

it's not a weight thing...it's a sight thing.

A CB only looks at out of one eye. DS use both ideas to see the field, believe it or not, that is the hardest challenge. Lott and Woodson both spoke about that...

I'd love for Champ to eventually move to safety and stick around until the end of his career. Like he said, he's been in the league a long time and he's had 10 different coordinators. With McD having fully installed his new defense and hopefully keeping Martindale as the d-coordinator for the forseeable future, it would be great if Champ could finish his career with the Broncos.

Jojo is Josina Anderson.

I was hoping that wasn't true.

Interesting, but I would also guess that they added a little weight to prepare for the additional hitting the position requires. Champ has never been afraid of contact which is one of the reasons I believe he will make a good transition to safety, but he's also a leg tackler rather than a thumper and tackling WR's and occasionally hitting a RB low to take him down is much different than a safety filling a running lane and having to take on a RB with a full head of steam.

Usually CB's go to FS where their is not a big issue on weight. It is the SS that needs the bulk.

You got something against leg tacklers? :redpunch:

Why, didn't like the interview?

Interview appeared fine - thanks to the OP for posting the transcript. I didn't hear it.

I just didn't like Josina's methods of posting random obnoxious thoughts and "insided information" about the team, players, or McD that had nothing to back them up and left you wondering if they were even true or not. Half the stuff I have ever seen from her went like this: "One of the Broncos may retire cause McD is driving him crazy, but I can't say anything more."
