The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that WR Eddie Kennison has signed a contract with the club. He will subsequently retire as a member of the Chiefs.

“I am honored and humbled to officially conclude my NFL playing career as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs,” Kennison said. “My family is extremely grateful to the Hunt family, Scott Pioli and the Chiefs organization for making this moment possible. Kansas City has a special place in our hearts, and has truly become our home. I feel very blessed to have been extended the opportunity to retire as a member the Chiefs.”

Kennison played in 91 games (85 starts) during his seven-year career with the Chiefs from 2001-07, catching 321 passes for 5,230 yards with 25 TDs. His receiving yardage total ranks seventh in franchise history, while his reception tally is the eighth-highest mark in Kansas City annals. Kennison produced 17 career 100-yard receiving games with the Chiefs, the fourth-highest total in team history.

The Lake Charles, Louisiana native saw action in 179 games (153 starts) during his 13-year NFL career with St. Louis (’96-98, 2008), New Orleans (’99), Chicago (2000), Denver (2001) and Kansas City (2001-07). He recorded 548 receptions for 8,345 yards with 42 TDs. The LSU product originally entered the NFL as a first-round selection of St. Louis in the ’96 NFL Draft.

First off, I know about the 100 post rule :welcome:
I just wanted to see how people felt about this guy after all this time
I remember when he pulled his "I just can't do this anymore" on us, I thought he must have been one of the mentally weakest players I have ever seen
Has time healed any wounds, or is this guy still Benedict Arnold to the Nation?

This would make for an interesting poll: "What is the Mount Rushmore of ex-Broncos that can never be forgiven?"

This clown last played in 2007? Sounds like he quit on retiring and then made a spectacle of his quitting on quitting. Fortunately for him, KC was obliged to honor his quitting not once, but twice.

Romo doesnt belong on that as he won 2 superbowls with us. He helped the team become the best for those 3 years. Sure, he did some horrible things but he is nowhere near Dale Carter, IHOP or Quitterson.

Dale Carter
Eddie Kennison
Bill Romanowski
Lyle Alzado

I don't think Romanowski should be on this list. I don't know if Denver would have won two SB without his play on a defense that wasn't dominating but very opportunistic. He brought emotion to the team few others did. Frankly, he was someone you wanted on your side and hated him when he wasn't. That alone speaks volumes.

Lyle Alzado certainly doesn't deserve that memory. Forgetting the steroids, he was a great and dominating Bronco. He was made for the Raiders.

Carter, Kennison, IHOP, Javon Walker, Cutler are much better candidates.

I love how someone so mediocre goes to the effort of some big production with retirement... What a douche bag and you'd think the Chiefs would have more pride than that.

Just for laughs I had to see who was 7th on our career receiving yards list:

Vance Johnson at 5695 yards.

Kennison was a good FA signing by Shanny, and things looked pretty good, until the infamous episode that garnered the "Quitterson" moniker. I still have no strong opinion either way on the situation, since there was really no details that came out about it.

Probably, like many situations, there was two guys (Kennison & Shanahan) that said some things to each other in a stressful situation that each felt were unforgiveable. It was a damn fast divorce, so that's what I'm thinking.

Too bad it didn't work out, because Kennison was a solid receiver, deep threat. If that divorce didn't happen, think what subsequent moves would have looked at for the WR position in Denver.

Would Lelie have even been drafted? Probably not. Would the Javon Walker trade have happened? Probably not.

mediocre players aren't supposed to be signing short term contracts to retire where they think it is best for them, HOF can, but no one else. See Elam as a great example.

What a d-bag.
