The Broncos waived wide receivers Dicky Lyons and Landis Williams on Tuesday.

Lyons, a first-year player from Kentucky, earned a roster spot in May after a minicamp tryout.

Williams signed in late April as a college free agent out of Maine.

Andrew Mason told me they can make 70 bucks an hour if they are players just for the camps. There are a number of punters around the league who every year punt for camps during the offseason training programs and aren't on the team even for preseason.

How do you get into the Punter Union?

Not sure. Shanahan used this red-headed guy for years I remember. He would be released every year before camp, but during offseason he spent the three months punting. Teams like to have multiple units going at the same time during OTA's and "general muscle training that looks suspiciously like a normal practice."

Broncos bring in Barton
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 7, 2010 5:30 PM ET

The Broncos have acquired offensive lineman Kirk Barton off waivers today, picking him up after the Lions waived him yesterday.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Barton was drafted by the Bears in 2008 and played for them in Week One of his rookie season, but that remains the only regular-season game he's appeared in.

Since the Bears cut him, Barton has bounced around the league with the 49ers, Bengals and Dolphins in addition to the Lions and Broncos.
