View Full Version : Steelers, Broncos looking into the services of ex-Cowboy Flozell Adams

Flozell Adams visited the Steelers on Tuesday and underwent a physical, but no deal was signed between Pittsburgh and the former Cowboy.

In fact, reaching an agreement may not be the foregone conclusion many had assumed when Steelers’ starter Willie Colon was lost for the season earlier in the week. Colon tore his Achilles tendon during a workout, and the Steelers had already been in need of offensive line help for quite some time. But even a healthy Adams wasn’t enticing enough.

It seems the Steelers got the impression that The Hotel isn’t ready to make a decision on where he’ll sign. That’s not exactly rocket science considering Adams has already visited Denver and is rumored to have caught the eye of at least two other teams. Of course, in the NFL there always seem to be multiple reasons for every decision. Reason number two in this instance: money.

Flozell was in line to receive upwards of $7 million from Dallas before his release earlier in the offseason, and is apparently asking for at least $4 million from his new team. Although the Steelers may not be prepared to offer that kind of dough, it’s not an outlandish request. Orlando Pace received $5 million from the Bears last season, and he had certainly fallen off more than Adams.

Still, Pittsburgh’s current injury debacle along the line could force the team’s hand where Adams is concerned. Rookie fifth-rounder Chris Scott also suffered a leg injury which will likely keep him out until after training camp starts, and if no free agent is signed, guard Trai Essex will get the nod on the left side. That means moving current left tackle Max Starks over to the right, and so much shuffling could be detrimental, especially considering that Ben Roethlisberger won’t be available to start the season.

The Broncos are still very much in the mix, however, as Josh McDaniels seems intent on building a stronger, mauling front five. With the way he’s jettisoned linemen recently, and with Denver’s absolute ineptitude running the ball to the right last season, McDaniels may view the 6-7 340-pounder as a red zone panacea.

Hopefully Flozell’s new team has a strong enough passing game to overcome the multitude of penalties sure to follow him no matter which city becomes his new false start home.

I thought Clady would be back for PS? If he is going to miss more than 2 games they really need to pull the trigger. He would be nice to have if Harris goes down again also.

No use rushing him back from that kind of injury.

Last year he had like 3 in one drive. And they were at home. Talk about drive killers. That wouldnt set well having Orton with 2nd and long, or 3rd and even longer.

Klis reported this week he'd be back for the regular season opener at the earliest.

That's so vague, and rather discouraging.
