Jay Leno's Ratings Dip Below Conan O'Brien's on 'Tonight Show
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2010/07/02/jay-lenos-future-jeopardy-ratings-dip-conan-obriens-tonight/

Four months after forcing Conan O’Brien off the Tonight Show, Leno’s ratings have dropped below Conan’s. Not only does Leno have fewer viewers, his show also costs more to produce. $10 – $15 million more a year than Conan’s. Bwahahaha.

Leno’s higher salary — $30 million per year, compared to O’Brien’s $15 million — plus the cost of his bigger production staff was pushing the show into the red, according to insiders.

“It’s got the potential to be a huge embarrassment,” said the source.

NBC is about to be taken over in a $28 billion deal with cable giant Comcast.

“You can’t figure they’re happy about this,” the insider said.

Leno has at least two more years to go on his NBC deal.

But, as Leno himself joked at the height of the late-night mess last January, “NBC stands for ‘Never Believe your Contract.’”

Even though Leno beats rival David Letterman most weeks, ABC’s nightly newsmagazine show “Nightline” is now the top-rated show after 11:30pm.

Conan is a hundred times funnier than Leno and cost half as much. NBC in their infinite wisdom decided that something needed to be done about that. So they paid Conan millions of dollars to quit and signed back the less funny Jay Leno and now his ratings are even lower. “Ahh, job well done,” NBC execs said while wiping their asses with $100 bills.

Those negotiations should go well.

This would be far too embarrassing for them to let it happen IMO.

Good. I'd like to never hear that nasal, denim-obsessed voice again.

Leno has been the class of the late nights since he came on the scene.

Simple statement of fact.

Maybe but he sure isn't funny if that matters.

Creg Fergison on the other hand is funny, very funny

Craig Ferguson is hilarious. I can see why Conan doesn't appeal to the mass audience, he is very quirky, but I don't know any people that have seen Craig's show that don't like him.

Ferguson is great. I dont watch much late night tv as that is my prime time to tke people's money on the poker internets. I would rank Conan, Ferguson and Kimmel ahead of Leno at this point but I dont think NBC would sign any of those three (or they just cant).

You know what honestly wouldn't surprise me? If Leno wound up replacing Larry King. That's not to say I think it's a good idea, I just think it could happen.

As far as new tonight show hosts, I bet they go to someone a little unknown.

Wow, color me surprised that Nightline is now number one. ABC tried to kill that show, oh, maybe six hundred times over the years. People are turning down obnoxious, vapid, irrelevant, egotistical and boring small-talkers for something of substance--that's the best news out of this mountain of garbage, to me.

Ferguson better stay in the late night slot - half of his jokes wouldn't fly with the target demographics at 11:30 and I like him just the way he is.

To me Larry King is in the league of Jonny Carson meaning he can not be replaced. Someone will take over his show but it will never be the same.
