$30.00 for LA Fitness, 30 bucks to watch of muscle heads pump each other.

You never get used to the smell of the locker room.

I am still on my original 24 hour fitness contract, so I don't remember what it was up front...don't pay monthly yet. I haven't been in a while though since doing Power 90 and now P90x.

Wifey goes a good bit though.

$85/month. Pretty much impossible to pay much less for a gym membership in NYC. I did used to work out at he Parks and Rec centers around the city for $40/year but it's really like working out in a prison yard.

Damn the cheapest here is 64 dollars and it's not that great. Not really a gym but a spa at a high end resort. I am thinking of joining again partly because of the amazing women that flow through there from all over the world. I know I'm a sexist pig (actually I'm not I just love women).

$20 a month at Golds. My son is married to the granddaughter of the guy that made Gold's Gym. He may have sold it by now but I got to pay monthly and they can't change it. I hate contracts.

$15 for the gym I go to. I generally use it for the treadmill. In the summer out here where I would go run has snakes (rattlers...) that like to sunbathe either in the middle of the road or on trails. I am a stocky dude, so I tend to blow up when I lift weights regularly...not a good look for me. So the running helps bring the weight down. So $15 to ensure a snake free run is a good buy for me.

$0.00

Have a treadmill and a bench with a lat tower. Probably would have spent twice as much for a membership.

20 dollars a year for any 24-hour fitness. So umm, 1.50ish a month?

$40 at a local gym. They just remodeled everything and all the machines and most the weights are brand new. New talent, too.

How'd you get that?

I locked in a 3-year contract for like 750 bucks about 10 years ago. After the contract, my renewal was $20 bucks a year and it includes every 24-hour fitness up to Sport level (I think it goes up to Super Sport or ultra sport or whatever but I've never had a problem with any gym).

I also have been lifting consistently for those 10 years, so I'm pretty sure I'm getting my money's worth :).

The owner is an old guy who has trouble even with Viagra, so I just bang his younger wife a couple of times a month and he gives me a free membership.

Sounds reasonable enough a cost to have you make him look good in comparison

I dont go to a gym. Funny thing you made this thread though. Today I am going in for my first PT at 24 hour fitness..

Was doing the p90x, but got such good results that I just do not have the weight I need at my house.
(I have a bench, and some free weights that go up about 35lbs)

Hopefully I can get in for less than 100 a month? Is that about right for a 24 hour fitness that I would use 5 times or so a week?

Chris
06-23-2010, 11:22 AM
24 hour fitness is about 60 here in NYC. Crunch is 70-90 depending on your contract... Equinox is 160 because it's filled with fashion models.

My guess is in this economy you would be able to negotiate your deal.

One tactic is look shocked when they tell you the cost and blurt out so and so will give me the same thing for XXXX. quote about 60% less.

Yup.

I went in on a third of a universal gym with two other people about 11 years ago and picked up pieces here and there over the years. Sold off my third and completed my home gym with it.

What I have now is:

1 TDS mega bench with lat, leg, butterfly & delt attachments
300lbs worth of olympic weights w/ bar
1 flat incline/decline bench
1 ab board
dumbbell sets from 5 lbs to 70 lbs.
1 seated calf unit

I sold off a dip rack after tearing my rotator cuff in Jan '09, otherwise this is what gets me thru.

Nothing. My work has two large gyms that I use for free. I am currently building my own home gym and that is costing a few bucks.

Where is the $0 option? We have a 3000 home association and it is included with dues. I think we pay about $45 for everything so pretty good deal. I do notice more people using it then a few years ago as they put in over a million bucks into it and people cant afford gym membership anymore.

Sound advice. Got a membership for $24 a month. That was a good deal I think. Well worth it. If I go 5 times a week....it comes out to like a $1.20 per session.

And on a side note- My goodness, there is a lot of extremely HOT girls that work out at 24 hour fitness! I am not going to be the talker hit on girls guy that kaylore was talking about, but I bet I pull at least a few number from this place.
