Told y'all ... shoving a cop to interfere with an arrest is a felony.

Apology trims it down to misdemeanor Assault 3 ... not a bad trade-off.

Teen Punched by Seattle Cop Apologizes
She Shoved Him as He Arrested Her Friend; It Was All Caught on Tape

(CBS/ AP) A Seattle teen seen on cell phone video shoving a police officer who then punched her in the face has apologized to him, and he accepted the apology, authorities say.

Separately, the King County prosecutor charged the 17-year-old as a juvenile, with third-degree assault. That's punishable by a maximum 30 days in detention.

The incident happened Monday as the teen was intervening in a friend's jaywalking arrest by Police Officer Ian Walsh, 39.

The video shows Walsh trying to arrest 19-year old Marilyn Levias. The two were already struggling when Levias' friend, the 17-year-old, pushed the officer, and he responded by punching the friend in the face.

30 Days in jail and always being remembered as that girl that got slugged by a cop for being an idiot. Sounds fair.

Any apology and punishment was in order. People can't push a cop. But at the same time I still think he was way out of line and if the police department gets sued they can only blame that cops poor judgment.

i'm good with the apology...

however, there is a such thing as both parties being wrong...

be nice to see the cop and/or the police dept stepping up and apologizing for the excessive force...

either way, i still think the girl sues and gets money out of this...

So, A forced, damage control apology trims down a felony to a misdemeanor.

I'll have to remember that one next time I get taken to court.

All of you who think what this cop did is too much, and isn't legal, and should be punished, and whatever else need to go ask a cop about the situation. What he did was a legal, appropriate, and trained response to the possibility of two people gaining physical advantage over him. His alternatives of nightstick, Tazer, or pistol were all WAY worse for the girl he punched and showed that he was using a lot of restraint in the situation. He or the department are not getting sued, nor should they. The outcome in the courtroom demonstrates that.

These OJ cases are a beating.

Maybe one day we wont dole out justice based on race, but on the content of character instead.

The character of a person physically interfering with a police officer who is apprehending someone gets this.

So there you go.

It would probably be, why is that hot chick with the nice jugs trying to interfere with a policeman trying to do his job creating a potentially dangerous situation for everyone involved.

By definition I think everyone that grew up in the USA is to some degree racist and it is so ingrained into our culture that most will never recognize they're racist. If you are careful what you say around people of another race than you likely have some degree of imprinted racism.

This does seem discriminatory, could I get away with an apology and 30 days and a misdemeanor if I coldcock a cop? if she had been a 17 year old black guy would that offer be on the table?

Pretty sure I'd still be in jail if I shoved a cop and no apology would get me off on what should be a felony charge down to a misdemeanor.

+1

What she did was idiotic, and her punishment is well-deserved.

However, the cop didn't need to punch her.

If the cop was at a loss for other means of subduing and restraining her, then he's either inadequately trained or he's just not cut out for the job.

I don't know, it might just be me, but it did look like that crowd could have gotten out of hand pretty quickly. The Cop might have just been trying to snip it at the bud, before one thing led to another. Its unfortunate, but sh*t happens.

Unfortunate stuff was happening. It had already gotten out of control.

The cop should have been more rigid from the get-go.
