Official MWC statement-

"We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference," said Commissioner Craig Thompson. "Since our inception just 11 short years ago, the Mountain West has experienced tremendous success, and the addition of Boise State will further enhance that strength. The MWC continues to strategize regarding potential membership scenarios and bringing Boise State into the Conference is an important part of that evolution."

"The invitation to join the Mountain West Conference reflects the excellence that Boise State University has demonstrated academically and athletically," said Boise State President Robert Kustra. "It will be a privilege to compete and partner with such a successful group of member institutions. This move is in the best interests of Boise State's future, and the university is excited to be part of one of the nation's most outstanding conferences."

The Mountain West Conference was founded with eight members in 1998. Boise State is the second institution to join the Mountain West since that time; TCU became a member in 2005.

Good to know. I had heard that the MW didn't formally invite them. I kind of expected them to see if they were going to get any feelers from the PAC-10 if one of the Texas teams didn't want to go for whatever reason. This makes the Mountain stronger and it will be fun seeing BYU play them like in days of the WAC.

Will they take their old coach back?

The MWC didn't initially invite them to see what happened all around. It was expected they would today. I think it's great

The local morning show here was saying this was their only choice. No other conference would take them because they have a bad academic history. They may have been exaggerating, I wouldn't know, but they said they were pretty much a community college until recently.

I find that extremely hard to believe.

It's true, their academic standards are below average, and for this they were never a true candidate in the Pac-10 expansion plans. However Kustra has been fixing/upgrading the education at BSU.

Love this move but don't doubt that either BYU or UTAH leave soon...creating a mess.

Boise St was never in the WAC at the same time as the MWC schools (except TCU). Boise joined in 2000, and the MWC was formed in 1999.

I am totally stoked for Boise to be in the MWC. Hopefully the MWC can grab some of the Big 12's leftovers.

MWC should give Texas and A&M a ringy dingy...

I said that in another thread and was told that any of the Big 12 left overs would only putrid turds adding to an even bigger steaming pile of crap that is the MWC. I'm paraphrazing of course, but apparently theres not a lot of respect out there for the MWC, even though athletically a few of the schools stack up real well to BCS schools.

You'll likely either see a couple of the Big 12ers move into the MWC or a few of the MWCers move into the Big 12 and/or Pac 11. I honestly will not be suprised to see the remainders of the big 12 turn to the MWC cupboard to try and keep their conference alive.

Exchange SD for Fresno State and that is a nice looking conference.

That's because the BCS schools are afraid of those teams in the MWC invading their BCS purses.

check this out:

Possibility that the MWC is considering a merged conference with the Rockies forming a natural division.

East: Air Force Falcons, Baylor, Colorado St., Iowa St., Kansas, Kansas St., TCU Horned Frogs, Wyoming Cowboys

West: Boise St. Broncos, BYU Cougars, New Mexico Lobos, SDSU Aztecs, UNLV Rebels, Utah Utes

You're right! It seemed like in the 90's we played them a lot and I completely missed they were with the Big West.

They played them a few times around 2003. That game in Boise was the first time I realized just how idiotic Crowton was as a head coach.
