The text below was written by the former Mayor of Emmitsburg, MD.

There was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

Dear Mr. President, Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force -pay them $1 million apiece severance with the following stipulations:

They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
They either buy a house/pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

Can't get any easier than that!

I think this guy nailed it!

Submitted by former Emmitsburg Mayor Ed!

I was never a math wizard but wouldn't that come to 40 million trillion (40,000,000,000,000)? I'm not sure who is more dumb, the guy who's solution this was or the former mayors for liking it. I can't help but think the former mayor was liking it in a humorous way, but with some of the politicians, you never know.

Its probably better than just giving that money to the corporations... 1 million is pretty steep, and I doubt it would fix the housing crisis.

That's just $40 trillion. $40 million x $1,000 would be $40 billion. So $40 million x $1,000,000 would be $40 trillion.

Duh, how could I leave out billion? I jumped right from millions to trillions. You are correct.

40 (Fourty - 1 zero)
400 (Four Hundred - 2 zeros)
4000 (Four Thousand - 3 zeros)
40000 (Fourty Thousand - 4 zeros)
400000 (Four Hundred Thousand - 5 zeros)
4000000 (Four Million - 6 zeros)
40000000 (Fourty Million - 7 zeros)
400000000 (Four Hundred Million - 8 zeros)
4000000000 (Four Billion - 9 zeros)
40000000000 (Fourty Billion - 10 zeros)
400000000000 (Four Hundred Billion - 11 zeros)
4000000000000 (Four Trillion - 12 zeros)
40000000000000 ( Fourty Trillion - 13 zeros)

Ok, that does sound like a much better number..................
