In honor of the highest profile mullet in the NFL, "Alas poor mullet, I knew him well..."

Vikings DE Jared Allen cuts off his mullet with wedding coming up

Yahoo! Buzz

Jared Allen's mullet is now a thing of the past.

The Vikings' Pro Bowl DE cut down his long-haired style of locks in anticipation of his upcoming nuptials.

"The things men do for love," Allen said of the cut.

Maybe he gave a hint of the coming demise of the mullet in February. Allen said then that if he had made the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 11 video game, he would have straightened the mullet.

Allen had previously espoused the virtues of the mullet and explained what he thinks when he encounters someone with one:

"I approach you from the front and you're like 'wow this dude's pretty serious. Then I walk away and you're like 'damn, he the likes to party, with two Rs."

In anticipation of his upcoming wedding, Vikings DE Jared Allen did what some fans may view as the unthinkable: his mullet is no more.

“The things men do for love,” Allen said.

Clady's play dropped off significantly when he cut his hair.

Gave up his first career sack in the very next game he played, I believe.

Right. I'm sure the wifey has given the OK to the mullet as soon as the pictures are taken. That's how women work.

The mullet is becoming a fad in high schools right now. It's kind of looked at a funny joke, but pretty soon it's going to make a comeback where you'll see people sporting them more frequently.

Well, maybe Dumervil is a more effective, poor-mans Allen.

They're both one-dimensional. Allen might be a little better on the run, but Dumervil is a better pass rusher.

Dumervil a better pass rusher? He's had 1 good season.

Allen is better in every way. I have a feeling you might be a bit of a homer. NTTAWWT. I am too.

Allen is better at both. Run defense by a long shot and a better pass rusher with more strength.
