Broncos sign rookie LB
By Jeff Legwold

The Broncos signed rookie linebacker Jammie Kirlew to a deal Tuesday. Kirlew was one of the team’s two seventh-round picks in April’s draft — cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson was the other.

Thompson has already signed a rookie deal as well leaving seven picks from the Broncos’ 2010 draft class still unsigned.

Kirlew, at 6-1 ¼, 260 pounds, started 41 games in his career at Indiana, finishing with 52 1/2 tackles for loss and 23 sacks as a defensive end for the Hoosiers. He will be an outside linebacker in the Broncos’ 3-4 scheme and projects to play on special teams this season if he makes the 53-man roster coming out of training camp.

He had nine forced fumbles at Indiana, a sign of a player who finishes tackles well, but is a little shorter for the position than some scouts like and with a 5.07 clocking in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine, he doesn’t have the speed of some at the position.
