It's brilliant really. He'll I was a republican for most of my life until I looked at the economy under Reagan and both bushs and changed my thinking. The sad thing is not thatthe politicians lie, it's that people believe them. That is what's sad. Our brave soldiers usually vote more republican and have their benefits cut when they get home. I think that the Republicans are in civil war, and that the future of the party depends on what happens with the Rand Paul campaign. If he loses, 2012 is in the bag for Obama. The tea party coalition will fracture into different coalitions, and the Republicans will be behind the 8 ball for 2012. If the Republican establishment has any hope for keeping the tea party coalition in tact, it will need to get behind Rand and do everything possible to put him over the top. But even if Rand wins in Kentucky, the Republicans are still in the soup all the way up to the nomination. Not that people don't want to see Obama replaced. But replacing Obama with another Bush (or McCain, or Romney, or Huckabee, or Palin) isn't a desireable option. The Tea Party is looking for a standard bearer, not a great compromiser. A Goldwater, not a McCain.

I know you are a Paul ball grabber, but dont kid yourself and think he is the make or break for the whole entire country of the US. He is running at the same time as we elect many other senators and congressman. The only thing Tea Partiers can do is split the vote from the Republican party. As more true (so far) conservatives run for seats in DC, the party will hold its own. If it isnt based on people being pro conservative, it is on being anti Obama. Your Paulita is only a fraction of the big picture.

He's a make or break for the Republican party. If he loses, the Tea Party coalition will splinter and the Republican party will lose momentum. Hear me now and believe me later.

You're wrong. It's not up to the Tea Party to respond to the Republicans. It's up to the Republicans to respond to the tea party. I don't think they will. I think that the Republican establisment is going to shoot itself in the foot and end up electing someone like Romney expecting that people will show up to vote against Obama. They're underestimating Obama for one, and the will of the heart of the tea party for another. The Republican party is in serious trouble, and if they go against the grain of the grass roots, they're going to hand Obama another 4 years.

I've heard this before. They told us that the Republicans could put McCain over the top without the Paulistas. And when the economy went bump, McCain had one last shot to win the election by putting an arm around Ron Paul and showcasing the most credible Republican on the cutting edge of American economics, and instead showed up to a gun fight with a knife.

I just wanted to comment on this point specifically. If you think that anyone is going to win a campaign on being "anti-Obama," then you haven't learned the lessons of history. Not only has history shown that presidents don't win on being "anti-their-opponent," but we got a first hand look at this lesson when both Hillary and McCain ran campaigns around the central theme of "anti-Obama."

I think many voted for Clinton and Obama was based on "at least he isnt Bush!" Trust me, I know the Tea Party is important but the voters, which are tea partiers and majority not, are backing the best person to their beliefs. If it was a sign from yesterday and the Brown win in Mass., both parties are giving us crap politicians and we are throwing it back in their face. They want to stay status quo but the voters are paying more attention and are sick of the way things are at the state level and national level. Dems will feel it based on the Anti Obama feelings and it will be who gets to take them on; Party backed candidate or the people's candidate. I havent seen any split party yet from a Tea Party candidate. So far they are running as a Republican. Maybe in 2012 they run as an independent if they lose a primary as a Republican. To me, that is full Chrisp BS (at least he did it before the primaries).

I think independents like myself will seriously consider a candidate like Paul for a few reasons, one he's for smaller government and less spending and he is hopefully not part of the current establishment on capital hill. Obama is more concerned with making the democratic platform happy than doing what is right. If he gets elected for a second term it's going to get ugly because a 2nd term president has nothing to lose so he'll really push though his progressive (socialistic) policies.

LOL! You've clearly bought into the caricature that leftists have painted of the tea party then. Enjoy your silly notions!

It's sad, but true. When Rand Paul said the establishment was laughing, he was referring to the Bush administration. They were funding two wars, running up record deficits, while treading on our civil liberties, and mortgaging our future. I think the tea party movement would've been just as big if McCain had won. However, the Republicans would be the ones using the teabag slur in defense.

"They say the British scoffed at the American rabble. They laughed at the Americans, their imperfect uniforms, their imperfect tactics. They laughed at retreat after retreat of the American army. They laughed right up until Yorktown.
Today, you are that American rabble: the disgruntled, the disillusioned, the cynical, the bereaved -- bereaved at the loss of liberty. The establishment from their high-rise penthouse views laughs at you, laughs at us."
-Rand Paul on Dec. 16, 2007, in front of the Old State House in Boston, where the Declaration of Independence was first proclaimed.

The main problem i have with the Tea Party is they waited to bitch once Obama got elected and many view Bush in a good light. Many things Bush did should have got more out of the TP voters and organized 3 to 4 years ago. Only Ron Paul was voicing major concern. You will see more ads tilted towards Paul's thinking than what the Dem/Rep platform tells them to say.
