How many games will Ubaldo Jimenez win for the Colorado Rockies this year?

UberBroncoMan

18 because the offense will stall on multiple occasions. He shouldn't even be 7-1 right now. It should be 8-0 or 7-0.

Remember, the baseball season is looooong. He will go through some tough spells. He's having an historic run, by Rockies standards. If he ends up with 20 wins, I'll be happy.

I seriously think he will be the NL CY winner, and is a lock to start the all star game.

I give him 22 or 23 wins on the year. He generally only needs 2 or 3 runs of support to notch the win.

17. History shows it is very tough to get to 20 wins with a 5 man rotation. I am not sure the Rockies lineup is good enough to win enough of the 2-1 and 3-2 games he is pitching in over the course of an entire season. Now if Tulo comes around a little that could change.

You also gotta be a little worried about him breaking down with the amount of pitches he's throwing every outing. For a guy that throws 100, you'd think more people would swing and miss.

Since earned runs became official in 1912 in the NL and 1913 in the AL, Jimenez is just the 5th pitcher to win 8 of his 1st 9 starts of a season and have an ERA under 1.00. The last was Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 who won the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year that season.

Ubaldo Jimenez - 2010
Fernando Valeznuela - 1981
Juan Marichal - 1961
Hoyt Wilhelm - 1959
Eddie Cicotte - 1919

I picked 20. But I haven't seen signs of even a little sputtering. He pitched his worst game of the season a start or two ago, and gave up three hits.

He's not going to finish with an ERA below 1. But he's having as good a quarter season run as anyone I can remember seeing.

oh i agree, but its still a little early to be seeing any sputtering. with him throwing so good it may be a curse later because he is throwing alot of innings as it could lead to him getting tired later in season.

He'll get used to it. He got cramps because of dehydration... something that takes a complicated remedy, drinking fluids.

Ubaldo has reached bar status with me. Every time he's pitching I make every effort to stay up late and hit the bar and watch him. I mean, another 8 innings of shut out ball tonight and he didn't even have his best stuff. The guy is some kind of special player.

More than 2/3rds of the season to go and he is already to 9 wins. 20 is looking like a cinch, I hope to see a Bob Gibson like era at the end of it all. I'm really encouraged by Francis too, I really thought his arm was done and he would sputter.

Jiminez, Francis, De La Rosa, and Cook could be great come playoff time.

Cook needs to get it together, he's leaving way too many pitches up.

Hopefully Chacin can continue his great start and avoid big innings, he's got great stuff as well.

Ubaldo, if De La Rosa comes back to his '09 form, Francis, Chacin and Cook.

A solid rotation, and one I didn't expect this from. I thought Francis was done and on his way to Shawn Estes territory.
Hopefully De La Rosa comes back healthy and firing on all cylinders.

I picked 20 but the OT didnt put that he is now 9-1. With 30% of the games gone, sputtering would be 20 wins. He might hit 22 wins but we have seen many go out hard and then slow it down. His ERA is amazing but the team needs some offense to keep him in the game. He also bats in the NL so he is more likely to get out of a close game if behind and they need to pinch hit. I selected 20 wins but 22-23 might even be more realistic.

Wow, 10 wins already entering June, with a .78 ERA. Remember the talk about Greinke's start last year? Ubaldo is killing Greinke's start and probably the best start for as long as I can remember, even better than Pedro's starts to his amazing seasons.
With 4 months left in the season, Ubaldo needs to average just 2.5 wins per month to get to the 20 win mark. The way he's been pitching, that seems pretty easy.

Anyone with the ability to that isn't watching every one of this guy's starts is missing out. Cherish this. He is bordering on ridiculous right now. Today he didn't have his velocity and he still threw a complete game shutout. Pablo Sandoval should get a medal for getting three hits off of him.

He threw 97 once in the ninth, and that was only when he had two outs and two strikes. Pitchers do that all the time. He dropped from his customary 96-100 to 95 like halfway through the game, then he was throwing his fastball at 92-93 in the 8th and 9th.

I'm no pitcher or expert on baseball, but it looked to me like yesterday more of his fastballs had a ton of movement. That tells me he was throwing his 2 seam fastball more than usual. Stands to reason that his velocity was a little lower, and it certainly looked to me like his 4 seamer had his usual pop. Changeup was still hitting at 86 to 89.

But either way, he had them guessing all day. Look at how many times he started guys off with a curve and they just let it go by. He was basically getting free strikes up there.

I was a Rockies fan in the spring, but I have turned on them now with all the fair weather types coming out of the woodwork. I hope the Rockies implode, losing 15 of their next 20 games so Coloradoans can focus their attention on the only team that matters, the Broncos. Then I will able to sit right behind home plate at Coors Field for $15!

I don't think they're fair weather. They are on something of a streak, but up to a few weeks ago they were sub .500 and still filling the stadium.

I follow the Rockies pretty close. We go to several games every season. I was just at the Dodgers game (the one we won) a few days ago. While I agree the Rockies aren't ever going to supplant the Broncos, the last few years of success has created very steady crowds that are packing Coors. This is a team that was selling out every game the first few years of it's creation.

I don't think it's bandwagon fans - it's Colorado has a lot of Sports fans who got turned off by the mediocrity, and while still following the team, didn't want to support crap. Now that things are in a competitive spirit, people are coming back.

Yeah, its 6, unless Tracy decides to pitch Jimenez every 5th day, bypassing spots in the rotation to get Jimenez an extra start in. Honestly, he needs the rest and I am worried about his workload to begin the year with how many pitches he throws.
Whats amazing, is he can basically go 2 months now of straight losses, and still be at least .500 on the year.
He has some tough matchups though coming up, @Minnesota, the Red Sox, Toronto and he needs to show up in the divisional games against the Padres and Giants.

Right now I can see him getting 25-26 wins and it wouldn't surprise me. The guy is ridiculous.

An "off" day for him, against a good lineup in the rain, and he gives up only 3 in 6 innings of work.
His worst start of the year out of 14 is him giving up 3 runs, on 5 hits, walking 5, striking out 6 in 6 innings in the rain against a tough lineup.
His lone loss was against the Dodgers, where he gave up 1 run on 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5 in 7 innings.
He has a quality start every start, 6 outings of allowing 0 runs, 10 starts allowing 1 or fewer runs.
This is unbelievable really, something you'd see in video games. If he were on an East coast team, or the Dodgers, he'd probably be talked about as the league MVP and talk about how he is having the best season ever.
Only issue Jimenez has is his control, causing him to throw too many pitches.

I have been playing a lot of both MLB 2k10 and MLB the Show 10 (I like different aspects of both franchises) I have mainly played the road to the show or career modes, creating a pitcher, giving him what I feel in the optimal repertoire of pitches and grinding him out until I have an insane amount of experience to give him unrealistic velocity, movement, and control of every pitch. I constantly rage quick out of games where I feel the computer is stringing together BS hits and errors against me.

Despite all this I still have a higher ERA than Ubaldo. Dude is not human.
