I've seen too much media hype concerning fat children. Parents moaning on talk shows about how they just can't control their 125 pound 3-year-old. We have four children and I found something that works really well while they are still young enough for you to control what they eat: Give them food that really doesn't taste very good. I don't mean put wet garbage on their plate. I mean give them small portions of foods that they don't care for (beets, spinach, green beans, whatever) along side of small portions of food that they normally would eat. Don't let them have seconds until they finish what's on their plate. Works great. No more fat kids. Voila!

wow that is even better then South Parks and my idea of treating ADD (a quick slap across the back of the head and telling them to study or pay attention)

heh.
My parents tried that, but it turns out I was allergic to all the foods that I didn't like. By them forcing me to eat them anyway, it turns out they really just hindered my chances of ever being able to eat healthy when I grew up...Imagine the guilt trip that my mom went through when she found that out...Anyway, thank god for metabolism, otherwise I might start looking like a nebraskan cheerleader ;)

I dont think us here in colorado realise how big of a problem it is. Colorado is one of the most fit states right now according to one of those stupid servays you see. But then My parents went out to Minnesota for something think it was a bike tour my dad did in summer they said EVERYONE they saw looked overweight kids too. need more rec centers and more sports for kids and grown ups some reason for people to get up and do something after spending all day in front of a computer. Reminds me have to get that rec center membership I am getting a pretty good spare tire around my middle right now.

My eyes are giving out. When I first tried to read the title to this thread, I thought it said:
"Eat kids? Try less palatable food."
And here I was thinking that we were going to get into a debate about Hansel & Gretel.

I was just goofing around when I started this thread but, yeah, it pisses me off too. Especially since I really do have four kids. I've seen a few of the talk shows trot out some humongous, overfed toddlers. Kids ranging from 2 to 6 six years who are in the 140-225 pound range. Jesus, stop feeding them. Say "No!" once in a while.

Throwing a little exercise in wouldnt hurt either. I think most kids could get away with eating what they want (save the hereditarily (sp) fat ones). Kids are too busy with TV, video games, computers, etc, etc. I think that is a BIG reason that we are so fat and have such a high rate of ADD/ADHD kids. From birth they are pummeled with "things" to keep them busy and occupied. The second they get bored with one thing, we throw something else at them. I remember when I was growing up we had three channels on TV and that was it for our entertainment (and it wasnt all that long ago, Im only 32) Just my opinion :D

I think we should put all the fat kids on Ritalin. That way they would pay attention and solve their weight issues at the same time!

When I went to college, my parents gave me their first color television to take with me. It only got 1 channel in well--NBC. My roommate at the time was obsessed with Days of Our Lives and planned her class-schedule around it. The week after classes started, they changed the tv schedule, instead of 11am it was on at 1pm. She had a class until 1:15, then she'd race home & watch it then head back to class by 1:45. She would leave the TV on when she left & I would be sitting at my desk doing work/playing around online, so I'd get too lazy to get up & turn it off. It got to the point where I got "addicted" to it as well--but not enough to change my schedule around. I also had to watch Passions & Montel & Rosie afterwards because I didn't have another class until the evening, so it was a bad bad thing. Finally for my birthday, my parents gave me a newer tv/vcr with a REMOTE so that I could actually change the channels or even shut the tv off while I was trying to "concentrate" on "work"...

OK was playing video games & watching DVDs earlier on the big tv, while I was back on my computer watching football. When I asked him why he wasn't watching football he whined cuz he couldn't find the cable remote.
