View Full Version : Invent a Holiday

With all the news about the retarded Cinco de Mayo thing in California. I thought... what should our next fabricated holiday be. After all Cinco de Mayo celebrates a victory over the French by the Mexican army... not a drink fest or national pride.

So...

What's the next big holiday we should have?

We have stuff like

Mother's Day
Christmas
Halloween
Thanksgiving
Valentines Day

etc.

Discuss, Deliberate, Decide!

I'd say they go ahead and make Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday and give everyone the following monday off. 100+million people in the US watched the last super bowl. How many of them went in into the office and were truly productive the next day? Do us a favor uncle sam.

A good chunk of Europe gets August off. Why don't we get March Madness off? Everyone's just streaming games from their work computers anyway.

nice. There would have to be rituals involving peer examinations, best breasts of the west / east contests and we can throw a positive spin on it by putting in within "breast cancer awareness month". dinner is buffalo wings.

In honor of... Hitler's birthday? Columbine massacre?

If you try to make a holiday of 4/20, nobody would go for it.

No f'ing way do you get a day for being white. Being white is an advantage every single day. If anything Columbus Day should be changed to Native American Day. How a mass murderer & rapist who got lost halfway around the world is honored with his own day is a joke.

Its cool if you were joking. But what part did I say I don't like America? I was born here as were my parents n half my grandparents.

I just don't see what's so honorable about a man who tried to go to India & 'discovered' America. He didn't discover crap. There's evidence of people living here since 10,000 B.C. Then Columbus ignorantly calls these people Indians. Then Columbus & his men proceed to wipe out these 'Indians' as well as rape their women. Sounds like genocide doesn't it? So why is this explorer who got lost so honorable?

I love my country but I hate how glorified Columbus is and how much American history ignores the mistreatment of the Natives. Its history now but honoring these people's memory with a day is much more appropriate than honoring the man who treated them as sub-human.

And I'm not calling you anti American by any stretch.

You don't have to agree with everything that America stands for.

I always ask for the day after the Super Bowl off sometime in March...that way they aren't really wise about it until sometime in late January or February and they always say something like you beat us to the punch, blah, blah, blah, no one really expects why I am asking for that date off in March. Anyway, ask for Feb 7, 2011 off.

I've thought this forever. Even people who don't normally watch football watch the Super Bowl if only for the party. Definitely the Monday after as not only are people unproductive or call in anyway, it's a day of mourning. The season is over.

Festivus?

I already celebrate it. Do you need me to come over and bring you to tears?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8g4Ztf7hIM

From Wikipedia:
Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23. It was created by writer Dan O'Keefe and introduced into popular culture by his son Daniel, a screenwriter for the TV show Seinfeld[1][2] as part of a comical storyline on the show. The holiday's celebration, as shown on Seinfeld, includes an unadorned aluminium "Festivus pole," practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength," and the labelling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles."

Celebrants of the holiday sometimes refer to it as "Festivus for the rest of us," a saying taken from the O'Keefe family traditions and popularized in the Seinfeld episode to describe Festivus as "another way" to celebrate the holiday season without participating in its pressures and commercialism.

Once a year we need to be reminded how great it really is by taking the day off.

It would be better than Christmas.

Since illegal aliens get to break a law and get away with it legal Americans should have a "Break a law and get away with it" Day. This holiday should be on April 15.
