Question about 40 times

Have they changed the standards?

IE, like changing from track to grass / running start to dead start?

It seems like overall the players are getting slower every year.

Syd'Quan Thompson is a corner that ran a 4.7. That is ridiculous for a corner.

Perrish Cox ran a 4.57. I was timed at 4.57 as a cover-FS in high school - and our team had a RB, and two WRs that were faster than me.

Jammie Kirlew is a "pass rusher" that ran a sub-5 second 40, and both the receivers we took barely ran a sub 4.5.

Last year Heyward-Bey was the fastest prospect at like 4.4

I remember when the elite prospects were running freaking 4.25 40's. Remember Ashlie Lelie? Apparently he was timed at 4.18 once. Apparently Clinton Portis ran a 4.23.

The old turf in Indy was alot faster back in the day. You were really timed at 4.57 in HS? Hand timed?

Yeah the turf makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, and I couldn't do a 225-lb rep once. It was hand-timed by our D-coordinator/D-line coach on the Dakota Ridge track, a guy named Gary Willison, who was a UDFA DE to the Raiders and got cut and went into coaching.

Heyward Bay ran a 4.25 at the combine last year. The turf is slightly slower than the old astroturf which was harder and had better traction.

I think in the old days a lot of hand timed 40 yards were reported and those tend to be faster than the laser timed results, which is why I think 40 times feel slower now than they used to be.

Yeah, add like .2 to a hand timed 40 compared to laser. Not to mention a track is a lot faster than turf.

never ran a 40, only typing this because I am using a PS3 and wanted to try it out. lol
